Combined projected WAR: 18.7Top five everyday players:-CF Kevin Kiermaier (4.4 WAR)-3B Evan Longoria (3.5)-2B Brad Miller (2.4)-SS Matt Duffy (1.6)-LF Colby Rasmus (1.5)Kevin Kiermaier has been the best defensive player in the game the past two seasons, and his bat has started to come around. Last season, he posted career highs in wRC+ (104), stolen bases (21), home runs (12) and walk rate (9.7 percent). Brad Miller erupted for 30 home runs in 2016 after never hitting more than 11, and Fangraphs expects the power to stay, projecting a .250/.317/.437 slash line.
Projected record: 83-79Projected run differential: +20Fangraphs and PECOTA are both relatively bullish on the Rays in 2017, a surprise considering Tampa Bay was 68-94 in 2016. A full season from Kevin Kiermaier would certainly help the Rays meet expectations, as would a repeat of Brad Miller's 30-home run season. The biggest boost to Tampa Bay's fortunes would be a bounce-back year from Chris Archer, who saw an uptick in his walk and home run rates in 2016. He finished strong over the second half of the season and looks to have put his struggles behind him, giving the Rays one of the best young starters in the league. Jake Odorizzi, Blake Snell, Alex Cobb, Matt Andriese and newly-acquired Jose De Leon should form a solid young core of arms.
