USC, UCLA at historic low heading into crosstown showdown
PASADENA, Calif. (AP) — The annual crosstown showdown has arrived at a particularly low point in the football history of both Southern California and UCLA.
The schools' 13 combined losses are the most they've ever had in 88 editions of the game for the Victory Bell. Both the Trojans (5-5, 4-4 Pac-12) and the Bruins (2-8, 2-5) are out of the conference title race and playing for little more than local pride.
USC getting key contributions from young defensive linemen
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Optimism has been hard to come by at Southern California this season, but the play of defensive linemen Brandon Pili, Jay Tufele, Marlon Tuipulotu and Jacob Lichtenstein has been a bright spot.
The four have combined for 12 1/2 tackles for loss and 6 1/2 sacks, with the second-year players looking like the difference-makers the Trojans have lacked up front for nearly a decade.
USC’s defense dealt another blow before facing Notre Dame
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Southern California knows what it has to do to win at No. 13 Notre Dame, but another injury will make the task that much harder.
"I think our offense is going to do what they do," safety Chris Hawkins said. "I think it's up to us to stop the run."
