MILWAUKEE (AP) — David Stearns doesn't expect wholesale change for the Milwaukee Brewers after they fell a game short of the World Series.
Freese leads off for Dodgers with Brewers LHP Miley on mound
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Left-hander Wade Miley will have to face to a right-handed hitter right away in Game 6 as the Milwaukee Brewers try to stave off elimination in the NL Championship Series.
First baseman David Freese is leading off for the Los Angeles Dodgers after hitting third in Game 5.
After Counsell uses Miley as decoy, Brewers ’pen cracks late
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Wade Miley threw just five pitches in Game 5 of the NL Championship Series before Milwaukee manager Craig Counsell emerged from the Dodger Stadium dugout and abruptly removed his starter.
Oddly enough, five innings after this extraordinary bit of subterfuge, Counsell probably waited a bit too long to go to his bullpen again.
Reliever Woodruff’s homer stuns Kershaw, Brewers take Game 1
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The high-five at the plate from Brandon Woodruff nearly took out Lorenzo Cain.
It's not often that reliever hits a home run.
Batting left-handed. Off lefty Clayton Kershaw. In the playoffs.
Woodruff stunned the ace with an early home run and Milwaukee's normally shutdown bullpen held on — barely — as the Brewers beat the sloppy Los Angeles Dodgers 6-5 Friday night in Game 1 of the NL Championship Series.
Brewers relief pitcher Woodruff homers off Kershaw in NLCS
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Brewers right-hander Brandon Woodruff has connected against Dodgers ace Clayton Kershaw, becoming the third reliever in major league history to homer in a postseason game.
Woodruff led off the third inning with a long drive to right-center, tying Game 1 of the NL Championship Series at 1. Woodruff pumped his right arm as the ball went out Friday night and Kershaw glanced back with an incredulous look on his face.
Brewers turn to Woodruff to open bullpen day vs Colorado
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Young right-hander Brandon Woodruff not only made the Milwaukee Brewers' playoff roster, but he's starting Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Colorado Rockies.
On hot streak, OF Ryan Braun hitting third for Brewers
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Ryan Braun will hit third for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 1 of their National League Division Series against the Colorado Rockies.
The veteran outfielder, who hit .346 with five homers over the final seven games of the regular season, will hit behind table-setters Lorenzo Cain and Christian Yelich.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have activated first baseman Eric Thames from the 10-day disabled list and optioned right-hander Brandon Woodruff to Triple-A Colorado Springs.
Thames had been out since April 25 after tearing a ligament in his left thumb. The bearded slugger was hitting .250 with seven homers and 13 RBIs when he got hurt.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — It was raining, the radar was all green, minus the small blobs of yellow and red, and Milwaukee Brewers manager Craig Counsell decided to gamble.
But lifting Brandon Woodruff for a pinch-hitter in the fifth inning backfired. The big inning never came, the heavy rain didn't either, and the Philadelphia Phillies did just enough against the bullpen to win 4-3 Sunday.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The hero for the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday is on his way to the minors a day later.
The Brewers optioned Ji-Man Choi to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Sunday, a day after he hit a go-ahead, pinch-hit grand slam in the Brewers' 12-3 win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The move was made to open a roster spot for right-hander Brandon Woodruff, who started Sunday against the Phillies.
PHOENIX (AP) — First Milwaukee took three of four in Colorado. Now the Brewers have won two of three in Arizona.
A trip to what usual NL West trouble spots turned out nicely indeed for Milwaukee.
Travis Shaw, Domingo Santana, Christian Yelich and Tyler Saladino homered in the first four innings off Matt Koch, and the Brewers routed the Diamondbacks 8-2 in the series finale on Wednesday.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers have optioned outfielder Brett Phillips to Triple-A Colorado Springs to make room on the roster for right-handed pitcher Brandon Woodruff.
Manager Craig Counsell said after a 5-2 win Thursday over Colorado that Woodruff would be recalled from Triple-A to start Friday night in the second of a four-game series against the Rockies. Woodruff is 1-0 with a 3.86 ERA in five games this season with the Brewers, including one start.
Saturday was moving day at Maryvale Baseball Park.
The Milwaukee Brewers made a bevy of roster moves ahead of their penultimate Cactus League contest. Outfielders Keon Broxton and Brett Phillips, as expected, were optioned to Class AAA Colorado Springs, as was right-hander Junior Guerra.
Veteran right-hander Yovani Gallardo learned he wouldn't make the team while left-hander Brent Suter and right-hander Brandon Woodruff were told they'd begin the season in the starting rotation.
Two players who might be on the outside looking in starred Tuesday for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Jesus Aguilar, whose role as backup first baseman has been muddled this spring with Ryan Braun auditioning to share time with Eric Thames, hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh in the Brewers’ 4-3 victory over the Texas Rangers at Maryvale Baseball Park in Phoenix.
Tyronne Taylor homers to lead Brewers’ comeback win over Rockies
Tyronne Taylor’s solo home run highlighted a three-run eighth inning and Milwaukee (7-2) rallied to beat host Colorado 6-5 in Scottsdale, Arizona.
First baseman Eric Thames and designated hitter Jett Bandy each led Milwaukee with two of the team’s 12 hits.
Zach Davies allowed a run on two hits and a walk in two innings, before Chase Anderson, who slots in at No. 3 in Milwaukee's rotation, followed Davies and pitched three innings. He gave up a run on four hits and a walk.
After searching for starters, Brewers sort through options
PHOENIX (AP) — All winter long, the Milwaukee Brewers were mentioned as a potential landing spot for just about every free agent pitcher as well as those potentially available on the trade market.
But when pitchers and catchers took the field at Maryvale Baseball Park for their first workout Thursday, the group looked very much as it did last year.
Pitchers and catchers report for Brewers spring training
PHOENIX (AP) — Spring training has arrived for the Milwaukee Brewers.
Pitchers and catchers have reported to the team's spring complex in Phoenix, with the first workouts scheduled for Thursday.
There are spots up for grabs in the starting rotation after Zach Davies, Chase Anderson and free agent signee Jhoulys Chacin. Right-hander Jimmy Nelson is out for at least the first couple months of the regular season as he recovers from partially torn labrum and strained rotator cuff.
Brewers: Right-hander Jhoulys Chacin signs 2-year deal with Milwaukee
The Milwaukee Brewers reached agreement on a two-year contract with free agent right-hander Jhoulys Chacin, a source told ESPN.com on Wednesday.
The deal, which is pending completion of a physical exam, will pay Chacin almost $8 million per year, the source said.
Chacin joins Yovani Gallardo as the second free agent pitcher to sign with Milwaukee over the past week. Gallardo’s deal with the Brewers also is pending a physical.
Brewers’ postseason hopes take another hit, lose to Reds 6-0
MILWAUKEE (AP) — Rookie Brandon Woodruff's sunny outlook didn't match his performance on the mound.
The Milwaukee Brewers right-hander still believes his team can make the playoffs even as his team's chances get slimmer with each defeat.
Woodruff was chased in a five-run third inning and the Brewers dropped 2 1/2 games behind Colorado for the second NL wild-card spot following a 6-0 loss to the last-place Cincinnati Reds. Milwaukee has lost five of seven.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Brandon Woodruff made up for lost time in his delayed debut.
Woodruff allowed seven hits in 6 1/3 innings after finally taking a major league mound nearly two months after planned, and the Milwaukee Brewers beat the Tampa Bay Rays 2-0 on Friday night.
"This is what every kid dreams of, and I'm glad that it happened this way my first time around," Woodruff said.
Orlando Arcia homered and scored both runs for the Brewers on his 23rd birthday.
