Davis, Jarreau lead No. 13 Houston to 73-66 win over Temple
HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. wasn't keeping it a secret: Houston came into this rematch against Temple with a chip on its shoulder.
After being called for a charge at the end of a loss to the Owls this month, Davis helped seal up a victory Thursday night.
Davis scored 24 points, DeJon Jarreau added 14 points and 12 rebounds, and No. 13 Houston avenged its only loss of the season with a 73-66 win over Temple.
Brady scores 13, No. 21 Houston holds out USF 69-60
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Kelvin Sampson struggled to find appropriate words to describe a truly ugly game.
There were 32 turnovers, 62 fouls, 76 free throws attempted, 32 percent shooting by one team and slightly over 40 percent for the other.
"Not aesthetically pleasing," Sampson said after No. 21 Houston held off South Florida 69-60 on Saturday night. "I felt bad that people had to watch that."
Temple hands No. 17 Houston 1st loss of season, 73-69
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Ernest Aflakpui drives his Temple teammates crazy in practice by constantly taking charges.
They were thrilled to see him do it with a big game on the line.
Quinton Rose scored 22 points, Aflakpui made the decisive defensive play and the Owls handed No. 17 Houston its first loss of the season, 73-69 on Wednesday night.
No. 21 Houston improves to 12-0, routing winless Coppin St
HOUSTON (AP) — Undefeated Houston pushed aside winless Coppin State for yet another home victory.
Corey Davis had 16 points, Breaon Brady added 13 and No. 21 Houston beat Coppin State 75-44 on Sunday to improve to 12-0 and extend the nation's longest home winning streak to 25.
"It means a lot to take care of our home court," Davis said. "It always puts an extra boost in us. It helps that we win all our games, but we make sure we take care of our business at home."
Brooks hits 6 3s, leads Houston past Alabama A&M, 101-54
HOUSTON (AP) — Armoni Brooks tied his career best by knocking down six 3-pointers while putting up 24 points as Houston cruised past Alabama A&M 101-54 in the Cougars' season-opener Saturday night.
Named the 2018 Sixth Man of the Year, Brooks was 9 of 13 from the field, including 6 of 10 from distance.
Houston won its 16th straight home game at H&PE Arena while the Cougars new home, $60-million Fertitta Center, is nearing completion.
Houston leads start to finish in 80-59 rout over Temple
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 20 points, Devin Davis had a double-double and Houston rolled to its fifth straight victory with an 80-59 win against Temple on Sunday.
Houston (21-5, 11-3 American) raced to a 15-0 lead with Davis making three 3-pointers and baskets from Breaon Brady, Rob Gray and Davis. Temple didn't score until 13:34 on a dunk by Obi Enechionyia. The Owls missed their first six shots and turned it over four times.
Gray scores 20 in Houston’s 69-65 victory at UCF
ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Rob Gray scored 20 points, Devin Davis had key points late and Houston held off UCF 69-65 on Saturday.
Davis split two UCF defenders and laid the ball in just before the shot clock ran out for a 65-61 lead with a minute to go and added two free throws with 34 seconds remaining for a six-point lead.
Gray was 7-of-15 shooting with five assists. Corey Davis Jr. had three 3-pointers and 15 points while Breaon Brady grabbed nine rebounds.
Houston downs cold-shooting USF 63-40 behind Davis and White
HOUSTON (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. scored 17 points and made 4 of 5 3-pointers and Fabian White Jr. had a double-double and Houston beat struggling South Florida 63-40 on Sunday.
White scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, and he and Davis combined for 13-of-19 shooting.
The Bulls made just 15 field goals and missed 14 of 23 free throws. Houston (16-4, 6-2 American) dominated inside with a 46-31 rebounding advantage.
Brady scores 21, Houston holds off Temple for 76-73 win
HOUSTON (AP) — Breaon Brady scored a career-high 21 points, on 8-of-9 shooting, and grabbed nine rebounds and Houston held off a late rally by Temple for a 76-73 win on Saturday night.
Brady, a JUCO transfer, left the game midway through the second half with an apparent ankle injury.
Houston beats Fairfield 88-66 for 7-1 start
HOUSTON (AP) — Rob Gray scored 20 points, Corey Davis Jr. added 16 points with five 3-pointers and Houston beat Fairfield 88-66 on Wednesday.
Davis made four of his 3s in the first half and scored 13 points to help Houston build a 41-26 advantage. Gray had 12 points in the half as the Cougars shot 56 percent, including 6 of 8 3-pointers.
Corey Davis’ putback wins it for Houston, 68-66
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Corey Davis' putback with 0.3 seconds left gave Houston a 68-66 victory over Liberty on Saturday in a consolation semifinal in the Paradise Jam.
Devin Davis missed a straightaway jumper with three seconds left but Davis was there to put in the game-winner.
The Cougars (2-1) will play in the consolation semifinals while Liberty will be in the seventh-place game on Sunday.
Brooks leads Houston to 81-53 win over McNeese
HOUSTON (AP) — Armoni Brooks missed just three shots from the floor and totaled 22 points to lead Houston to an 81-53 victory over McNeese to open the season Friday night.
Brooks drilled 5 of 8 from distance and was 8 of 11 from the floor. He also grabbed six rebounds. Wes VanBeck hit three treys for 14 points and Corey Davis Jr. added 12 points with five assists. Breaon Brady had eight points with 10 rebounds for Houston.
Coach: Kelvin Sampson (556-310 overall, 56-40 in three seasons at Houston).
