Strike by German airport security staff causes travel chaos
BERLIN (AP) — A strike by security staff at eight German airports on Tuesday is causing travel chaos for tens of thousands of travelers.
The ver.di union called on staff at airports including Frankfurt, Hamburg, Hannover and Bremen to walk off the job between 2 a.m. and 8 p.m. local time (0100 and 1900 GMT).
In Frankfurt alone where more than 1,000 security staff were participating in the strike, 570 flights were canceled and that across Germany up to 220,000 passengers may be affected.

BERLIN (AP) — A German labor union has expanded a planned strike by security staff at Frankfurt Airport on Tuesday to include several other airports, including Hamburg.
News agency dpa reported that the ver.di union on Sunday announced the one-day walkout at Hamburg, two days after calling the strike at Frankfurt, Germany's busiest hub.
Walkouts are also expected Tuesday at the smaller Hannover, Bremen, Leipzig-Halle, Dresden and Erfurt airports.

BREMEN, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky State Police say a man who brandished a firearm after exiting a parked car was fatally shot by officers.
Troopers from the state police post in Madisonville responded to a terroristic threatening complaint at a home in the Bremen community in Muhlenberg County Friday morning.
State police say in a release that 46-year-old Christopher L. Anderson was sitting in a vehicle on a private drive when four officers, including two state police troopers, arrived at the home.

3 killed in explosion in home in northern Germany
BERLIN (AP) — German authorities say three people have been killed in a massive explosion on the upper floor of a row house in the northern city of Bremen.
Police told the dpa news agency that rescue crews had found the bodies of a 41-year-old woman and her seven year old son, as well as that of a 70-year-old neighbor after the Thursday morning explosion.
Investigators were still trying to determine the cause of the explosion, which destroyed most of the home.
