FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Brent Qvale has dealt with it all his life, people looking at his last name funny before absolutely butchering it.
It's those first two letters — the Q and that wacky V — that have turned his family's name into an absolute tongue twister for some.
"Yeah, a lot of people just say, 'Q-Vale,' which is the usual, and it makes sense, I guess," the New York Jets offensive lineman said with a smile. "Some just pronounce it like, 'Quail.'
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets starting cornerback Buster Skrine and right tackle Brandon Shell won't play against the Atlanta Falcons because of injuries.
Skrine suffered a concussion last week at Miami and has been in the league's protocol for head injuries. He sat out practice all week, and coach Todd Bowles ruled him out Friday.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets center Nick Mangold is doubtful to play Sunday at Miami because of a sprained ankle that also sidelined him last weekend.
Mangold, who has missed just five games in his NFL career, will likely be replaced again by Wesley Johnson.
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Center Nick Mangold, left tackle Ryan Clady and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson are among seven New York Jets players to not participate in practice for a second straight day because of injuries.
Mangold missed last week's win at Cleveland with a sprained ankle, as did rookie linebacker Darron Lee. Coach Todd Bowles says "there's hope, but it's slim hope" that the two could play Sunday at Miami.
Clady is dealing with an ailing shoulder, while Wilkerson has a sore ankle.
