Dozier signs with Nationals, hopes to make postseason run
WASHINGTON (AP) — Brian Dozier turned down a more lucrative deal to join what he hopes is a playoff team with the Nationals.
The 31-year-old signed a $9 million, one-year contract with Washington that makes him the new second baseman and potentially a bridge from Daniel Murphy to prospect Carter Kieboom. Dozier said Tuesday other clubs offered him more money and longer deals, but he and his wife opted for the opportunity to win now.

Washington announced the deal Sunday, three days after it was agreed to subject to a successful physical.
AP source: 2B Dozier, Nationals agree to $9M, 1-year deal
WASHINGTON (AP) — Brian Dozier found his latest team — and the Washington Nationals found a temporary solution at second base.
The free agent infielder and the Nationals agreed to a $9 million, one-year contract, subject to the successful completion of a physical exam, a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press on Thursday.
The person confirmed the deal on condition of anonymity because neither the club nor player had made an announcement.
Dodgers win Late, Late Late Show, cut Red Sox lead to 2-1
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Brian Dozier swung bananas from a rope over the dugout railing.
How appropriate. The longest game in World Series history was bananas.
Twenty-three players on each team, including nine pitchers.
Eighteen innings — four more than any of the previous 662 World Series games.
Seven hours, 20 minutes — 1:39 longer than any Series game played before and 15 minutes more than all four games of the 1939 World Series combined.
The Latest: Pederson leads off as LA gets lefties in lineup

Brewers, Dodgers tied after 12 innings in NLCS Game 4
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers are tied 1-1 after 12 innings in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series.
With the Brewers leading 2-1 in the best-of-seven series, the defending NL champion Dodgers went ahead when Brian Dozier singled home a run in the first inning off Gio Gonzalez.
Milwaukee, seeking its first World Series appearance since 1982, tied the score in the fifth when pinch-hitter Domingo Santana hit an RBI double against Rich Hill.
Brewers, Dodgers tweak lineups for Game 4 of NLCS
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Infielder Jonathan Schoop is getting his first start for the Milwaukee Brewers in Game 4 of the NL Championship Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The NL West and NL Central were on track for tiebreaker games when the Los Angeles Dodgers, Colorado Rockies, Chicago Cubs and Milwaukee Brewers all took leads in Game 162.

Machado 4 RBIs, Dozier HR for Dodgers in 8-4 win at Rangers
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Those midseason additions are doing their part to help the defending NL champion Los Angeles Dodgers in a push to get back into the playoffs. Their closer is struggling.

Forsythe gets 5 hits, Twins outslug Tigers in 15-8 win
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — All that Logan Forsythe has done since arriving in Minnesota is get hits.
The veteran infielder joined the Twins at the beginning of August in a trade that sent popular second baseman Brian Dozier to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Thursday night was Forsythe's 14th game in a Minnesota uniform, and arguably his best.
Forsythe had a career-high five hits and Jorge Polanco drove in four runs as the Twins outslugged the Detroit Tigers for a 15-8 victory.
Dozier ends Dodgers’ skid with RBI in 12th against Giants
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It was looking all too familiar to the Los Angeles Dodgers. Another lead lost, another reliever buckling in a big moment.
Only this time, after San Francisco Giants outfielder Andrew McCutchen hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning to tie the game, the Dodgers did not wilt and their bullpen did not collapse.
Forsythe has 3 RBIs in Twins’ 6-4 win over Pirates
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Logan Forsythe may be best known by Minnesota fans as the player who replaced fan favorite Brian Dozier.
The lone major leaguer of the three players the Dodgers sent to the Upper Midwest on July 31 for the second baseman, Forsythe has filled in capably.
Forsythe had three RBIs, the Minnesota bullpen tossed 5 1/3 shutout innings and the Twins beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 6-4 Wednesday.

Chris Taylor and Brian Dozier homered off closer Wade Davis in the ninth inning and the Dodgers exploited Colorado's shaky bullpen to beat the Rockies 8-5 on Thursday night.
New additions help Dodgers edge Astros 3-2 to prevent sweep
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Dodgers finally got the best of the Houston Astros and it took a pair of players not on last year's World Series roster to do it.
Brian Dozier delivered a two-run double in the first inning and Manny Machado had three hits with two runs scored as the Dodgers defeated the Astros 3-2 on Sunday.
FANTASY PLAYS: MLB trade deadline did not disappoint
Major League Baseball's July 31 trade deadline did not disappoint, as several fantasy relevant players now play for new teams. As in previous weeks, several productive fantasy players including Wilson Ramos, Brian Dozier and Chris Archer were traded from the AL to the NL. If you play in NL-only leagues you need to carefully and craftily work the waiver wire this week. If you play in an AL-only league, your top waiver wire priority will probably be Tommy Pham. You should be busy trying to put together some trades of your own in order to improve your fantasy baseball team, but even this deep into the season you can still find value on your league's waiver wire. Here are a few players that can help you in the long and short term.
Bellinger, Pederson, Puig power Dodgers in rout of Brewers
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It took 56 years for Dodger Stadium to see a game like this.

Free-agent rentals seldom stay long-term in MLB
NEW YORK (AP) — When baseball stars on expiring contracts get traded in July, there's usually no need to find long-term housing.
Infielders Manny Machado, Mike Moustakas and Brian Dozier; starting pitchers Cole Hamels, J.A. Happ and Nathan Eovaldi; catcher Martin Maldonado; and closer Zach Britton are among the players dealt ahead of this week's deadline for trades without waivers. All could be eligible for free agency after the World Series.
Trade tornado: Dozier, Archer among 15 swaps on deadline day
For Brian Dozier, getting traded meant a dash to the airport and a long trip to Dodger Stadium. For Jake Diekman, it was a lot easier — he simply rode the bullpen cart from one clubhouse to the other at Chase Field.
Chris Archer, Jonathan Schoop and a bunch of relievers moved on deadline day, a flurry of 15 swaps Tuesday before time ran out to make deals without waivers.
Twins match record with 13th straight postseason loss
NEW YORK (AP) — Brian Dozier rounded third and yelled "Let's go!" at his teammates, and it seemed these Twins might finally be the ones to foil the New York Yankees in the playoffs.
Then the Yankees got their turn at bat.
Minnesota starter Ervin Santana blew a three-run lead in a wild first inning, and the Yankees piled on from there, handing the Twins a record-tying 13th consecutive postseason defeat with an 8-4 victory in the AL wild-card game Tuesday night.
