Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo retiring after 10 NFL seasons
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo says he's retiring after 10 NFL seasons, wanting to walk away from football on his own terms.
Orakpo, 32, announced his decision Monday with teammates on hand. He had planned for months to make the final year of his contract his last in the league.
Titans have safety Kenny Vaccaro available vs. Redskins
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have starting safety Kenny Vaccaro available against the Washington Redskins after he worked his way through the concussion protocol.
That leaves the Titans (8-6) without only a pair of defensive starters. Linebacker Brian Orakpo is missing his second straight game with an injured elbow and cornerback Logan Ryan is on injured reserve with a broken left leg.
Titans place Fluellen on injured reserve, promote linebacker
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have placed running back David Fluellen on injured reserve and filled his roster spot by promoting linebacker Nigel Harris from the practice squad.
The Titans announced the moves Thursday.
One of four running backs on the roster, Fluellen had missed the past five games with an injured knee. With the Titans declaring linebackers Brian Orakpo (elbow) and Sharif Finch (left shoulder) out after practice Thursday, they needed another linebacker for depth.
Titans give Marcus Mariota rave reviews for punishing block
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Derrick Henry heard Marcus Mariota throw his shoulder into Giants linebacker Alec Ogletree to clear the corner for the Titans running back.
Tennessee safety Kevin Byard saw the block from the sideline.
Watching replays sure makes the block from the Titans quarterback look even more punishing.
Orakpo out vs. Giants, Titans add Mariota to injury report
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans will be without outside linebacker Brian Orakpo on Sunday for their key road game against the New York Giants, and they also added quarterback Marcus Mariota to the injury report with an abdomen problem.
Mariota was limited at practice Friday after not being on the injury report for the previous two practices.
Daniel Carlson kicks 2 field goals, Vikings beat Titans 13-3
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans did their best to protect their starters for the regular season, letting Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota lead the cheers from the sidelines.
New coach, higher expectations for Titans after playoff run
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans won their first playoff game in 14 years in a thrilling rally from 18 points down on the road.
Then they fired coach Mike Mularkey once the postseason run ended in an ugly rout.
Yes, expectations are very high in Tennessee where consecutive 9-7 seasons with Marcus Mariota just didn't cut it, not with an offense that didn't get the most out of the young quarterback.
Titans working to bolster depth for postseason run in camp
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — In a perfect world, Brian Orakpo would like to play 25 snaps a game for the Tennessee Titans.
That would mean the Titans have enough talented linebackers on the roster to keep the 10-year veteran fresh rotating between the field and the sideline. Fresher legs all around also would mean more sacks and pressure on quarterbacks for a dominant combination.
Out with old: new look unveiled for 20th season as Titans
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are heading into their 20th season with that nickname sporting a new look that wound up more of an update featuring some subtle changes.
Titans running back DeMarco Murray will not play vs Pats
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee coach Mike Mularkey says running back DeMarco Murray will not play against the New England Patriots in the AFC divisional round.
Mularkey said Wednesday that Murray is not close enough to play Saturday night in New England.
The coach had listed Murray as day to day after the Titans (10-7) beat Kansas City in the wild-card round. But Murray has yet to practice, and Mularkey says the veteran running back is close enough to play next week.
Happy to be in playoffs, Titans ready to show they belong
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans finally making the playoffs left Pro Bowl defensive lineman Jurrell Casey speechless.
Well, for a moment anyway.
"Thinking amazing. Unbelievably fulfilling," Casey said. "I've been waiting this for seven years, and finally got the opportunity to get out there."
Plenty of his Tennessee teammates are experiencing all sorts of emotions after helping end the franchise's playoff drought after eight long seasons.
Titans beat Jaguars 15-10, end playoff drought with AFC spot
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Titans linebackers Brian Orakpo and Wesley Woodyard had a little talk with Marcus Mariota, encouraging their quarterback to run whenever he had a chance.
Mariota did just that Sunday.
Mariota had his best game running since a broken right leg ended his season a year ago, and he helped the Titans end an eight-season playoff drought by beating the Jacksonville Jaguars 15-10 Sunday to clinch the AFC's first wild-card berth.
Jags playing for momentum, Titans need win for playoff spot
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Jacksonville Jaguars insist they're ready to play , no need to heal up for the playoff berth earned with their first AFC South title. That's how coach Doug Marrone and Jaguars top football executive Tom Coughlin prepare for the postseason.
Titans facing must-win with Rams close to clinching NFC West
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee linebacker Brian Orakpo has made it very clear to the rest of the Titans that their postseason already is underway.
Yes, two weeks early.
"That's the mindset we have to have going into this game, and I believe the Rams are going to have the same mindset, as well, trying to win that division," Orakpo said. "It's going to be a great game."
Titans latest NFL team to choose week on road over jet lag
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are out of town this week, and veteran linebacker Brian Orakpo couldn't be happier.
The franchise decided once the NFL schedule came out in mid-April to spend the week between back-to-back road games against the Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers in Arizona.
The main reason? Cut down the travel to keep players a bit fresher for the final month of the season.
Titans focus on Colts after falling behind Jags in AFC South
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans no longer sit on top of the AFC South, and they are headed to a stadium where they have never won.
The Titans insist it's not a problem. Not as long as they stay focused on winning inside their division.
"We're 6-4, we're sitting in a perfect situation if we take care of our own business each and every game," linebacker Brian Orakpo said Monday. "Colts are on deck, nothing else matters but the Colts right now."
Titans’ defense among NFL’s best since embarrassing loss
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans believe they got the defensive wake-up call needed from one of the worst losses in franchise history.

Forcing more fumbles, interceptions key for Titans’ defense
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Titans coach Mike Mularkey has made it clear what he wants out of his defense this season.
Turnovers. Turnovers. And more turnovers.
Players say the message has gotten through loud and clear.
"Takeaways," Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Orakpo said. "We want takeaways. That's what we want to emphasize. The key to really putting teams away is the turnover ratio, and we want to emphasize that each and every day."
Titans start training camp with high expectations, no Davis
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Orakpo knows exactly how to handle all the attention the Tennessee Titans are attracting: Remind his teammates not to listen.
"We are going to be preaching to the young guys especially, 'Don't buy into expectations. Don't buy into predictions, power rankings and all that other stuff that goes along with it,'" Orakpo said. "We've got work to do, and it starts today."
Foundation built, culture changed: Titans see bright future
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A year ago, the Tennessee Titans went into the offseason needing a new general manager and a permanent coach while holding the No. 1 draft pick in the NFL.
Now they can tick off the mistakes that cost their them first playoff berth in seven seasons.
That's how quickly the Titans turned around a franchise that had been cycling through quarterbacks, coaches and losing seasons since the last playoff victory in January 2004. And they want much more out of 2017.
Titans linebacker Morgan returns to practice, McCourty sits
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee Titans linebacker Derrick Morgan returned to practice Thursday after sitting out a session with an injured ankle and expects to play Saturday against Jacksonville.

Titans tied atop AFC South after edging Denver Broncos 13-10
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans are above .500 for the first time this season and tied atop the AFC South for a second straight week.
For the Denver Broncos, the NFL's toughest finish is even more rugged — they're in a scrap for a playoff spot, just for a chance to defend their Super Bowl title.
The Titans used the NFL's third-best rushing attack to control the first half and jump out to a 13-point lead, then held on to beat Denver 13-10 Sunday for their biggest win in years.
Murray, Titans run to early lead, hold off Broncos 13-10
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A year ago, the Tennessee Titans lost their way in the race for the No. 1 overall draft pick. Now they find themselves tied atop the AFC South and coming off a very big upset of the defending Super Bowl champions.
DeMarco Murray ran for 92 yards and a touchdown, and the Titans held on to beat the Denver Broncos 13-10 Sunday and keep a piece of the lead in their division.
"We're definitely a team that's on the rise," Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo said.
Titans linebacker duo rank 2nd in NFL with 17 combined sacks
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Derrick Morgan is having the best season in his seventh year in the NFL, while Brian Orakpo on the other side of Tennessee's defensive line is just two sacks shy of matching his career high.
Together, the Titans linebackers are taking down quarterbacks as good as any duo in the NFL.
Morgan has eight sacks, while Orakpo has nine for a total of 17. Only Cliff Avril (10) and Frank Clark (7½) of Seattle have more combined sacks, and that's by just a half sack.
Journeyman Alexander helps revive Bills pass-rush attack
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — It's not every week Bills linebacker Lorenzo Alexander finds himself leading the NFL in sacks.
The 10-year journeyman intends to enjoy the moment for however long it lasts.
"I've got cats texting me and calling me from around the league that I've played with," Alexander told The Associated Press on Monday, noting one of the congratulatory messages he received was from Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo. "Orakpo hit me this morning, saying, 'Man, I'm chasing you.'"
Titans linebacker Brian Orakpo off to best start of career
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Tennessee linebacker Brian Orakpo is off to the best start of his career with four sacks in four games.
With the Titans trying to shake off a 1-3 start, he wants even more.
"I want to excel in everything I do," Orakpo said Thursday.
"Yeah, it's definitely a fast start, and I attribute that to a lot of hard work I put in in the offseason and just playing my game. I feel very comfortable in my abilities and just got to keep coming and leading these boys."
Titans want more pressure, sacks, turnovers vs. Lions
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Linebacker Derrick Morgan missed a second straight day of practice for the Tennessee Titans with his injured left hamstring.
Whether Morgan plays or not Sunday, the Titans know they must do a better job of pressuring Detroit Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford than they did against Minnesota journeyman Shaun Hill in the opener.
Titans believe they’re deeper, stronger on defense
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans' goal on defense in the offseason was simple: Create more depth and better competition.
The Titans' defense was solid enough, especially early in the 2015 season. But as injuries took their toll late in the season, the defense's play slipped. Tennessee still ranked 12th overall on defense, a somewhat surprising statistic for a team that went 3-13.
The Titans had 39 sacks in 2015 and return their front seven intact from...
