DENVER (AP) — The Vancouver Canucks were refreshed after a nine-day break. The Colorado Avalanche looked like the same team that stumbled into its hiatus.
Jake Virtanen and Antoine Roussel each had a goal and an assist as the Canucks raced to an early lead and defeated Colorado 5-1 Saturday night.
Demko makes 36 saves for Canucks in 4-3 win over Sabres
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Thatcher Demko was nervous before stepping on the ice.
It sure didn't show.
The 23-year-old goalie made 36 saves in his second NHL game, leading the Vancouver Canucks to a 4-3 victory over the Buffalo Sabres on Friday night.
"An opportunity for me," Demko said. "I'm just really excited and wanted to make the most of it."

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) — The play of Alex Edler has the Vancouver Canucks on a roll.
Edler scored the overtime winner, had an assist and led both teams with more than 27 minutes of ice time as the Canucks defeated the Calgary Flames 3-2 Saturday night.
Just over three minutes into a back-and-forth overtime, Edler took a pass from Brock Boeser and his shot dribbled through the pads of David Rittich.

EDMONTON, Alberta (AP) — The Vancouver Canucks have climbed back to .500, yet head coach Travis Green isn't satisfied yet.
Elias Pettersson and Antoine Roussel each had a goal and an assist as the Canucks defeated the Edmonton Oilers 4-2 on Thursday night.
The Canucks scored four goals on their first six shots. Tyler Motte and Brock Boeser also scored for Vancouver, which is 7-2-1 in its last 10 games.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Canucks coach Travis Green believes his team benefited from some lucky bounces against the slumping Philadelphia Flyers.
Brock Boeser had a goal and an assist to lead Vancouver to a 5-1 win over Philadelphia on Saturday night.
"It didn't feel like a 5-1 game by any means, but we'll take it for sure," Green said.
Vancouver went 3-8-3 in November, but have turned things around this month with a 4-2-1 start.
Sissons scores OT winner as Predators beat Canucks 4-3
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Leading by two late in the third period, the Nashville Predators nearly let this one get away.
Colton Sissons made sure that didn't happen.
After the Predators allowed a pair of goals in the final 4:05 of regulation, Sissons scored 3:05 into overtime to give them a 4-3 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Thursday night.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Casey DeSmith wanted another crack at the Vancouver Canucks, and he didn't waste it.
The backup goalie stopped 29 shots for his second career shutout, and the Pittsburgh Penguins got two goals apiece from Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin in beating the Canucks 5-0 on Saturday night.
DeSmith lost the previous matchup between the teams Oct. 16 when Brock Boeser scored 34 seconds into overtime.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Vancouver Canucks coach Travis Green wanted his two top forwards off the ice for a line change. Bo Horvat and Brock Boeser didn't listen, and Green was glad.
The pair teamed up to score the game-winning goal in overtime.
Horvat scored at 3:12 of the extra period, off an assist from Boeser, and the Canucks edged the Boston Bruins 2-1 on Saturday night.

Nilsson stopped 16 of 17 shots in the first period and finished with 33 in the Canucks' 4-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Thursday night.
"I had to get going right away," Nilsson said. "I felt confident going in the game. I've been feeling good the last couple weeks so I've been eager to get into a game eventually. I was excited to get the start and get to play."
NEW YORK (AP) — Vancouver right winger Brock Boeser, New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal and Arizona Coyotes center Clayton Keller are the finalists for the Calder Memorial Trophy for the NHL's rookie of the year.

Kucherov stopped an 11-game goal drought, Andrei Vasilevskiy made 27 saves for his NHL-best 32nd victory, and the Lightning beat the Vancouver Canucks 5-2 on Thursday night.

Alex Ovechkin has hardest shot at skills competition
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Alex Ovechkin had already clinched the hardest shot title at the NHL All-Star game skills competition before taking his final shot.
All that was left was to try to top 100 mph, and Ovechkin did it.
The Washington star was the only player the break the century mark Saturday night, coming on his second try. Ovechkin's first attempt went 98.8 mph.
"Why not?" Ovechkin said, smiling. "And, I did. Of course it's special to get that type of win."

Kyle Brodziak had a goal and an assist, and St. Louis snapped a three-game skid with a 3-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks on Saturday night.
