Bette Midler, Brooke Shields among ‘Murphy Brown’ guests
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Bette Midler and Brooke Shields are among the guest stars dropping in on CBS' "Murphy Brown" revival.
Midler was on the original sitcom as Caprice, one of many difficult, short-tenured secretaries to Candice Bergen's Murphy.
CBS said Thursday the singer-actress is back as Caprice on the Nov. 8 episode, this time with a connection to Murphy that makes her even more unbearable.

Martha Stewart, others to attend women’s empowerment event
NEW YORK (AP) — Some famous friends will be on hand for Mika Brzezinski's latest "Know Your Value" event.
Martha Stewart, Sarah Jessica Parker and Jane Pauley are among those expected Oct. 30 for an all-day conference at Manhattan's Grand Hyatt hotel.
"Know Your Value" is based on the best-selling book by the co-host of MSNBC's "Morning Joe."

Brooke Shields’ gift list sweetens sales for Vermont syrup
BRATTLEBORO, Vt. (AP) — Brooke Shields' gift list is sweetening a Vermont family farm's sale of maple syrup.
The 109-year-old Robb Family Farm in Brattleboro says it's seen a 60 percent jump in sales since the actress listed the syrup among her 12 best holiday gifts for women published in People Magazine's holiday gift guide last month.
Shields told the magazine: "We go through a lot of maple syrup in our house."
WILTON, Iowa (AP) — The new owner of a famed, old-fashioned soda fountain has no intention of changing anything at the eastern Iowa landmark.
The Candy Kitchen in Wilton has been closed since the June 2015 death of owner George Nopoulos, who was 95. He was known for serving banana splits, chocolate sodas and other treats with a smile, singing, whistling and joking behind the marble counter.
