Falcons place Allen on season-ending IR with torn Achilles
FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons have placed free safety Ricardo Allen on season-ending injured reserve with a torn Achilles tendon.
Allen was carted off the field in last Sunday's overtime loss to New Orleans, becoming the third defensive starter to go down for Atlanta. Strong safety Keanu Neal tore his ACL in the opener and is out for the year. Linebacker Deion Jones underwent foot surgery and is sidelined until at least Nov. 18.

Jets rule 6 players out for Raiders game
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets have ruled out six players for their game against the Oakland Raiders, including starting tight end Eric Tomlinson.
Tomlinson injured his left elbow while making the second of two catches in the Jets' season-opening loss at Buffalo last Sunday. Rookie Jordan Leggett (knee) is also out, leaving New York with only Will Tye and Neal Sterling as healthy tight ends on the roster.
Jets place LB Mauldin on IR, re-sign LB Carter
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets placed linebacker Lorenzo Mauldin on injured reserve and re-signed linebacker Bruce Carter on Monday.
Mauldin, entering his third season, has been dealing with a back injury that ailed him for most of training camp. He didn't participate in any preseason games.
The move doesn't end Mauldin's season. He is eligible to be one of the team's two short-term IR designations, meaning he could return to practice after Week 6 and could play after Week 8.
Bruce Carter among Jets defenders dominating raw offense
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The pass came down the middle of the field, was tipped by one Jets defender and then linebacker Bruce Carter tried to corral it. The ball hit the turf and Carter pounded the ground.
A few plays later, a running back swept to the outside, only to find Carter firmly standing his ground and ruining the play.
It was that kind of practice Thursday for the seven-year veteran Carter. He was everywhere.
Jets cut injured S Marcus Gilchrist, re-sign LB Bruce Carter
NEW YORK (AP) — Marcus Gilchrist's future with the New York Jets was uncertain when they drafted Jamal Adams in the first round last week.
After they took another safety — Marcus Maye — in the second round, Gilchrist's fate was sealed.
Jets’ Mangold shows improvement, but sits out practice again
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets center Nick Mangold sat out practice again, although his ailing ankle showed some signs of improvement.
Mangold, who has missed three games with a sprained right ankle, participated in warmups and position drills Thursday. He ran a little for the first time since being hurt against Baltimore on Oct. 23. Mangold did not participate in team drills Thursday, and his status for New York's game against New England on Sunday remains uncertain.
Jets’ Mangold doubtful; Clady, Giacomini questionable
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets center Nick Mangold is doubtful to play Sunday at Miami because of a sprained ankle that also sidelined him last weekend.
Mangold, who has missed just five games in his NFL career, will likely be replaced again by Wesley Johnson.
Mangold, Clady, Wilkerson among 7 Jets to sit out practice
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Center Nick Mangold, left tackle Ryan Clady and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson are among seven New York Jets players to not participate in practice for a second straight day because of injuries.
Mangold missed last week's win at Cleveland with a sprained ankle, as did rookie linebacker Darron Lee. Coach Todd Bowles says "there's hope, but it's slim hope" that the two could play Sunday at Miami.
Clady is dealing with an ailing shoulder, while Wilkerson has a sore ankle.
Jets rookie Jordan Jenkins doubtful for game vs. Bills
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets rookie linebacker Jordan Jenkins is doubtful to play Thursday night against the Buffalo Bills with a calf injury that also sidelined him for the season opener.
Jenkins, a projected starter at outside linebacker, was hurt during practice on Aug. 22 and hasn't participated since. Coach Todd Bowles said Tuesday that it appeared unlikely that the third-round draft pick out of Georgia would play against the Bills.
Jets’ Marshall fully practices, Harris limited
FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — New York Jets wide receiver Brandon Marshall fully participated in practice, a day after being limited because of a sore hip.
