Texans look to regroup after mistake and injury-filled game
HOUSTON (AP) — After yet another loss, the Houston Texans are trying to figure out how to correct their mistakes and deal with several more injuries after already losing stars J.J. Watt and Deshaun Watson for the season.
Houston's 24-13 defeat at Tennessee on Sunday was its fifth loss in six games to drop the team to 4-8.
Already decimated by injuries, the Texans sustained several more against the Titans, leaving them thin at several positions heading into Sunday's game against the 49ers.
Savage’s career game marred by pick in loss to Titans

Former Gamecocks receiver Bruce Ellington thriving with Texans and Deshaun Watson
HOUSTON — DeAndre Hopkins knew right away what it meant to get Bruce Ellington on the Houston Texans’ roster and couldn’t wait to tell teammates about his fellow wide receiver.
“Toughness, for sure,” Hopkins said. “I’ve known Bruce a long time. I’ve played basketball against Bruce (in high school) so I know his mentality.”
It works both ways. Hard-nosed versatility is just what a team with a rookie quarterback needs when Hopkins, the Pro Bowl receiver, is blanketed.

Niners add depth at receiver with Streater, Kerley
SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — The San Francisco 49ers have had to remake their inexperienced receiving group on the fly this summer.
After losing projected contributors Bruce Ellington and Eric Rogers to season-ending injuries during training camp, the Niners made two late deals to acquire Jeremy Kerley and Rod Streater to bring in some needed experience to go along with Torrey Smith.
SANTA CLARA -- Jimmie Ward's versatility and playmaking ability should make him an every-down defender this season for the youth-laden 49ers. One play reinforced that notion Tuesday.
Ward, the 49ers' top draft pick in 2014, intercepted a pass by Blaine Gabbert and returned it for a would-be touchdown at training camp.
