March 12, 2019

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 12, 2019--U.S. News & World Report(USNWR) has ranked the Pepperdine University School of Law number 51 in the country in its 2020 Best Law Schools rankings. The newly released rankings reflect a significant increase for the Pepperdine School of Law, which advances 21 spots in just two years. The U.S. News rankings of 201 law schools fully accredited by the American Bar Association are based on a weighted average of 12 measures including student selectivity and job placement; quality assessments by academic peers, lawyers, and judges; and resources devoted to the school’s academic program.

“We are pleased to see the School of Law recognized for the growing excellence of its academic program. In particular, we are proud that the rise in our ranking was driven in part by the improved credentials of our entering class and job placement of our graduating class, as well as our rising reputation among academics, lawyers, and judges,” said Paul Caron, Duane and Kelly Roberts Dean of the Pepperdine School of Law. “We are grateful for the efforts of our students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends who together make Pepperdine Law such a special place.”

Pepperdine Law was also recognized for excellence in several specialty programs in rankings voted on by faculty in those fields, including rankings of number 2 in dispute resolution, number 32 in tax law, and number 33 in clinical training. New this year, voters were given the opportunity to evaluate programs at all eligible law schools.

The Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution remains a leader in the field of alternative dispute resolution, having been ranked the number one dispute resolution program by peers for 13 of the last 15 years.

“The Straus Institute has a preeminent record of excellence and expertise in dispute resolution scholarship, training, and global engagement,” said Thomas J. Stipanowich, associate dean of the Straus Institute for Dispute Resolution. “For three decades we have been a leader in preparing effective negotiators, peacemakers, and problem solvers and a driving force for improving the culture of conflict in America and the world.”

U.S. News & World Report ranked 201 law schools in the United States, based on data collected in fall 2018 and early 2019. Peer and legal professional assessment scores are based on data collected from voters who are asked to rate law programs on a scale of 1 to 5. Selectivity criteria include median undergraduate GPA, acceptance rate, bar passage rate, and job placement of graduates. Faculty resources include expenditures per student, student-faculty ratio, and library resources.
