Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ Marks Record Growth for Directions in Pharmacy® Spring Conference Series

May 17, 2019

CRANBURY, N.J.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 17, 2019--

Pharmacy Times Continuing Education™ ( PT CE), a leader in continuing education for retail, health-system, managed care and specialty pharmacists, has experienced record growth for the first two 2019 Directions in Pharmacy ® (DIP) conferences compared with 2018.

“We are really proud of the continuous growth and excitement that our DIP conferences have generated,” said Jim Palatine, RPh, MBA, president of PT CE. “The conferences offer pharmacists an opportunity to gain insights from expert faculty and be exposed to education that is extremely relevant to their practices.”

The 2019 DIP Spring Conference Series will be held in four total locations. This year’s attendance for the Chicago conference increased 97% over 2018, while in Anaheim, California, attendance increased by 74%. So far, the conferences have educated a combined 288 pharmacists and health care providers. The next DIP conference will take place on Saturday, May 18, at the Nashville Airport Marriott, in Nashville, Tennessee, and feature Lee Holland-Skipper, Pharm.D., MPH, research fellow of the Pharmacy Quality Alliance (PQA) providing the keynote address. The final conference in the series will take place on Saturday, June 22, at the Hyatt Regency in New Brunswick, New Jersey, with guest keynote speaker Laura Cranston, RPh, chief executive officer of the PQA. Both speakers will provide accredited education on the opioid epidemic and steps that pharmacists can take to improve patient care, as well as examine the clinical and economic impact to patients and the health care system.

The DIP Spring Conference Series is held in major cities across the United States and offers pharmacists the opportunity to participate in 10 interactive sessions. The meetings cover the most recent and relevant information on disease-state management, clinical data and treatment guidelines as well as best practices for patient care for a wide array of disease states, including opioid abuse-deterrent formulations, migraine management, metabolic and cardiovascular disorders, new influenza treatment recommendations, chronic idiopathic constipation and depression. Accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), each meeting provides attendees with the opportunity to earn up to 9.5 continuing education credits, including law credit.

This conference series is supported by educational grants from Amgen; Boehringer Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals, Inc. and Lilly USA, LLC; Daiichi Sankyo, Inc.; Genentech; Lilly; Novartis Pharmaceutical Corporation; Novo Nordisk; Otsuka and Lundbeck; Portola Pharmaceuticals; Sanofi Pasteur US; Sanofi US and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals; and Shire, now part of Takeda.
