Children’s National Hospital Rallies Local Community to Make March Matter for Local Kids
WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Mar 2, 2020--
During the month of March, Children’s National Hospital partners with more than 150 local businesses and the community to raise $1.5 million to help local kids. The third-annual Make March Matter campaign invites community members to shop, dine and donate to help ensure exceptional care for patients and their families at Children’s National – one of the nation’s top pediatric hospitals and the premier provider of pediatric care in the Washington, D.C. region.
Today through March 31, organizations, businesses and generous partners across the greater D.C. area offer a variety of fundraising activities to inspire employees and customers to give back to a cause that benefits kids treated at Children’s National.
“Children’s National has been helping provide care for children from this area for the past 150 years,” said DeAnn Marshall, MHA, president of the Children’s National Hospital Foundation. “Generous support from our business partners and community members allows us to provide world-class care and research that leads to life-saving treatment that helps kids grow up stronger.”
As part of Make March Matter, businesses and organizations across the metropolitan region offer fundraising opportunities for shopping, dining, wellness and more. Some contribute a percentage of sales, donate an amount per item sold or ask customers to give to Children’s National at the register.
Every donation – big or small – supports the nonprofit hospital in its effort to find cures, fuel innovation and provide exceptional care to patients and their families. In 2019 alone, Children’s National treated more than 237,000 patients, provided more than $71 million in uncompensated care and funded 1,300 research projects in pediatric medicine.
When community members participate in Make March Matter, they support patients like Lucas who was a patient at Children’s National for more than three years while he received life-saving cancer treatment. Now 12 years old, Lucas is back to playing sports and hanging out with friends. His mom Jackie is forever grateful for the care and support they received while he was there. “The oncologists, nurses and all of the staff cared as much about saving my son as I did,” said Jackie. “I am so thankful for the dedicated staff and encourage everyone to get involved in Make March Matter to help support kids like Lucas being treated today and in the future.”
