So it was easy to understand the jubilant cheers of "We goin' bowling!" that echoed from their locker room after they knocked off another in-state opponent on the road to earn bowl eligibility.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Cade Carney rushed for a career-high 223 yards and Wake Forest closed out its regular season with a 59-7 win over Duke on Saturday.

The injury luck ran out for Wake Forest on Saturday in more than just losing leading receiver Greg Dortch for the rest of the season.
Leading tackler Jessie Bates III and starting running back Cade Carney will both miss this weekend’s game at Notre Dame with injuries that coach Dave Clawson said will be evaluated “week-by-week.”
“We’ve been pretty lucky this year in terms of injuries and we took a couple of injuries on Saturday that, it’s part of football. Guys have to step up,” Clawson said.

Coach Dave Clawson said Tuesday that the two players won't play Saturday but their injuries are not season-ending, do not require surgery and "hopefully we'll have them in a couple weeks."
Phil Haynes came back to Wake Forest’s offensive line after a one-game absence for an ankle injury, stabilizing the unit against Florida State. Quarterback John Wolford was sacked twice, completing 24 of 34 passes in a standout performance against a top-level defense.
More painful than his balky ankle was sitting out the Appalachian State game for Haynes.

"A lot of people were telling him to get off the field, or 'Give us pushups,'" said Cameron Glenn, who forced a fumble and also had an interception in the Demon Deacons' 34-10 victory over Boston College on Saturday.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Wake Forest turned four turnovers into three touchdowns to blow past Boston College 34-10 on Saturday in the ACC opener at Alumni Stadium.
The Deacons (2-0) took the momentum at the end of the first half on a 30-yard interception returned for a touchdown by sophomore cornerback Essang Bassey, helping to put make it 21-7 at halftime.

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Forget those old times of futility, and don't even worry about having to play football in a hurricane. Wake Forest is winning, and the way the Demon Deacons beat Syracuse 28-9 on Saturday night was methodical.
John Wolford ran for two touchdowns and a career-best 94 yards, and threw for 140 yards to lead Wake Forest (5-1, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference).
Injuries don’t slow Wake Forest in 38-21 win over Delaware
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Matt Colburn rushed for a career-high 118 yards and an injury-depleted Wake Forest beat Delaware 38-21 on Saturday.
Colburn filled in admirably for injured freshman running back Cade Carney, scoring a touchdown just before halftime. The Deacons bookended intermission with scores, opening the third quarter with a 10-play, 75-yard TD drive that extended their lead to 31-14 and ended any thoughts of an upset.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) — Freshman Cade Carney rushed for three touchdowns, and Wake Forest upset Duke 24-14 on Saturday.
Carney rushed for 108 yards while becoming the program's first freshman with a three-TD game since Chris Barclay against Purdue in 2002. He scored on runs of 7, 1 and 55 yards — the last of which broke a 14-all tie with about 4 minutes left in the third quarter.
