PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Flyers let loose on the Islanders in a wild opening period.
Wayne Simmonds got his 30th goal of the season as Philadelphia scored five times in a fight-filled first on the way to a 6-3 victory over New York on Thursday night.
Dale Weise, Radko Gudas, Jordan Weal, Sean Couturier and Valtteri Filppula also scored for the Flyers, who won their third straight game. Philadelphia remained six points out of a playoff spot but still needs to jump three teams.
Lee, Ladd lift Islanders over Capitals, 4-3
NEW YORK (AP) — Andrew Ladd is hoping a couple goals Tuesday night can get him and the New York Islanders rolling headed into the second half of the season.
"When pucks start going in, your confidence is a lot higher," Ladd said after he and Anders Lee scored 43 seconds apart early in the third period to lift the New York Islanders over the Washington Capitals 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Islanders, Cal Clutterbuck agree to 5-year extension
NEW YORK (AP) — Right wing Cal Clutterbuck and the New York Islanders have agreed to a five-year contract extension through the 2022-23 season.
The team announced the extension Friday. Clutterbuck has two goals and seven assists in 25 games this season.
The alternate captain is in his fourth season with the team. He finished with 15 goals with eight assists in 77 games last season.
Cal Clutterbuck and Andrew Ladd scored 1:39 apart midway through the third period to lift the Islanders over Vancouver, 4-2, handing the Canucks their ninth straight loss.
Jason Chimera and Nikolay Kulemin also scored and Jaroslav Halak stopped 30 shots for the Islanders, who won for just the second time in seven games (2-3-2).
Daniel Sedin scored and Ryan Miller had 28 saves for Vancouver, which fell to 0-8-1 with eight straight regulation losses since opening the season with four wins.
Bailey’s OT goal lifts Islanders past Ducks 3-2
NEW YORK (AP) — Islanders coach Jack Capuano thought Josh Bailey could give New York a spark, and Bailey delivered for the team's first win of the season.
Bailey scored 54 seconds into overtime to give the Islanders a 3-2 victory over the Anaheim Ducks in their home opener Sunday night.
Capuano bumped Bailey to the top line with captain John Tavares and Andrew Ladd during regulation. In the 3-on-3 extra period, Bailey skated with Nick Leddy and Cal Clutterbuck.
