PHOENIX (AP) — Catcher Caleb Joseph and the Arizona Diamondbacks have agreed to a one-year contract that calls for a $1.1 million salary in the major leagues and a $250,000 salary in the minors.
Arizona opened a roster spot by placing right-hander Taijuan Walker on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday.
Mancini, Rickard lead Orioles past Rays 11-2
BALTIMORE (AP) — Trey Mancini and Joey Rickard represent a new era for the Baltimore Orioles.
As the franchise begins its rebuilding phase, the duo showed they can help carry the lineup.
Mancini and Rickard combined for seven hits, including back-to-back home runs in the second inning, and the Orioles breezed past the Tampa Bay Rays 11-2 on Saturday night.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Baltimore Orioles catcher Chance Sisco appeared to get knocked unconscious when teammate Pedro Alvarez's elbow hit him in the head while they chased a foul ball.
Sisco was hurt Tuesday night during the seventh inning of the Orioles' game against the Angels.
Alvarez and Sisco pursued Ian Kinsler's foul popup near the Angels' dugout. Alvarez reached out his glove and caught it, but Sisco slid into Alvarez's outstretched elbow.
Detroit — It went largely unnoticed, but rookie Victor Reyes made a heady base-running play in the bottom of the eighth inning Tuesday night to give the Tigers an insurance run in their 4-2 win over the Orioles.
He was inserted into the game as a pinch-runner for Victor Martinez and was on third base with two outs. Dixon Machado was at the plate. Orioles pitcher Mychal Givens bounced a pitch that got through catcher Caleb Joseph.
NEW YORK (AP) — Things were getting beyond dicey for Brad Brach and the Baltimore Orioles.
Bases loaded, no outs. Clinging to a one-run lead in the 12th. Big boppers Aaron Judge and Giancarlo Stanton coming up.
But boosted by an alert play from catcher Caleb Joseph, Brach escaped his own jam. And after overcoming an early deficit that left their starting pitcher punching the dugout wall, the Orioles held off the New York Yankees 8-7 Sunday.
NEW YORK (AP) — Turns out, Orioles manager Buck Showalter had it right.
Crew chief Jerry Meals said umpires missed a call during a disputed rundown at third base during a game between Baltimore and the New York Yankees on Friday night.
Still going! Orioles-Yankees heads to 14th inning
NEW YORK (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees are heading to the 14th inning tied at 3.
The first 13 innings Friday night took 4 hours, 53 minutes, and included some wild misadventures on the bases. Most of the field level sections at Yankee Stadium were still about half full after midnight, though the upper levels have mostly cleared out.
Yankees star catcher Gary Sanchez left in the 14th with an apparent leg injury while behind the plate.
BALTIMORE The ball beat him.
Thats how precarious Byron Buxtons stolen-base streak is. Buxtons speed may seem supernatural, may give him an aura of invincibility on the bases, but during the fifth inning of the Twins 3-2 loss to the Orioles on Thursday, pitcher Dylan Bundy and catcher Caleb Joseph got the baseball to shortstop Manny Machado before Buxton could reach second base.
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Caleb Joseph has gone from being a punchline in 2016 to being the Baltimore Orioles No. 1 catcher — at least for now.
Joseph went through the entire season in 2016 — during which he had 132 at-bats — without a single RBI.
He rebounded last season, driving in 28 runs, and has swung a hot bat this spring.
Entering Tuesday's game at Minnesota, Joseph was batting a cool .444 (8-for-18) with a home run and 5 RBIs, and at least for now, Joseph is the Orioles' starting catcher.
Brewers trade backup catcher Andrew Susac to Orioles
BALTIMORE (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles have acquired backup catcher Andrew Susac from the Milwaukee Brewers for a player to be named or cash.
The trade was announced Friday. Susac was designated for assignment earlier this week after the Brewers signed free agent reliever Matt Albers.
Susac, who turns 28 in March, is expected to compete for playing time behind projected starter Caleb Joseph.
Gausman sharp in Orioles’ 7-0 win over Red Sox
BOSTON (AP) — The way things started out, Kevin Gausman didn't feel comfortable that he'd have a long outing.
With some advice from catcher Caleb Joseph, he found his groove.
Gausman allowed four singles over 7 2/3 innings, Tim Beckham hit a three-run homer and the Baltimore Orioles beat the Boston Red Sox easily for the second straight day, 7-0 on Saturday.
Gentry hits game-winner as Orioles beat Royals 2-1
BALTIMORE (AP) — Craig Gentry singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Baltimore Orioles cooled off the Kansas City Royals with a 2-1 victory Monday night.
Manny Machado had two hits and scored a run for the Orioles, who have won three straight.
Caleb Joseph got Baltimore going in the ninth with a one-out single off Joakim Soria (4-3). Ruben Tejada singled with two outs before Gentry hit a grounder up the middle that sent Joseph home from second base without a throw.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — It had been a long road for Caleb Joseph and the Baltimore Orioles since they won a series away from Camden Yards.
Joseph homered, then singled to start a three-run ninth inning Sunday that led the Orioles over the Tampa Rays 8-5.
The O's hadn't won a road set since April 18-20 at Cincinnati.
BOSTON (AP) — Manny Machado put on quite a show.
The Orioles third baseman slugged a long homer out of Fenway Park, drove in two runs and made three solid plays in his first game against Boston since a dustup with the Red Sox just over a week ago, carrying the Baltimore Orioles to a 5-2 victory Monday night.
Caleb Joseph added an RBI double for the Orioles, who beat Boston for the fourth time in six games this season.
Orioles’ Caleb Joseph has first RBI since last March
SARASOTA, Fla. (AP) — Orioles catcher Caleb Joseph was gushing over a spring training RBI.
Yes, it's only spring training, but Joseph's reaction was understandable. It had been nearly a year since he had an RBI — anywhere.
Joseph's 2016 season was interrupted for more than a month when a scary testicular injury on May 30 from a foul ball led to surgery.
He didn't have a single RBI in what was a frustrating and painful 2016. Joseph had 66 at-bats before the injury and 66 after it.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Caleb Joseph has ended a year-long RBI drought with a long home run.
The Baltimore catcher, who lost his salary arbitration case with the Orioles earlier this year after setting major league records for at-bats and plate appearances in a season with no RBIs, hit a third-inning drive to left off New York Yankees' starter Adam Warren on Thursday night.
It was his first RBI since spring training last year.

Flores was awarded a $2.2 million salary Saturday by arbitrators Mark Irvings, Sylvia Skratek and Robert Herzog, who heard the case a day earlier. The Mets contended he should be paid $1.8 million. Flores made more than $526,000 last year and was eligible for arbitration for the first time.
Orioles beat catcher Joseph for 9th straight arbitration win
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — The Baltimore Orioles won their ninth straight salary arbitration decision over more than two decades, defeating catcher Caleb Joseph.
Joseph, who set major league records for most at-bats and plate appearances in a season with no RBIs, was awarded the team's $700,000 offer rather than his $1 million request in a decision Thursday by arbitrators Mark Burstein, Steven Wolf and Gary Kendellen. They heard the case a day earlier.
Joseph goes to arbitration after record for ABs with no RBIs
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) — Backup catcher Caleb Joseph has gone to salary arbitration with the Baltimore Orioles after setting major league records for most at-bats and plate appearances in a season with no RBIs.
Joseph asked arbitrators Mark Burstein, Steven Wolf and Gary Kendellen for a raise from $523,500 to $1 million, and the Orioles argued during Wednesday's hearing he should be paid $700,000. A decision is likely Thursday.
2016 WAR: -1.0By any measure, Joseph was horrible at the plate this season. In 49 games, the backup catcher hit .174/.216/.197 with just three extra base hits (all doubles). After adjusting for league and park factors, that performance was the 11th-worst offensive season in 50 years among hitters with at least 140 plate appearances. There are many stats that would depict Joseph's ineptitude as a hitter, but none more than this: In 141 mostly bad plate appearances, Joseph did not record a single...
