Trail Blazers use 2nd-half charge to get past Pacers 103-93
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Portland Trail Blazers may not need to rely exclusively on their dynamic duo to throw scoring punches any longer.
Their new supporting cast trades jabs pretty well, too, and it could make a real difference to their long-term prospects.
With Damian Lillard struggling Monday and C.J. McCollum scoring just 17 points, the Blazers got 17 points from Zach Collins and the first career double-double from former Purdue star Caleb Swanigan to put away the Indiana Pacers 103-93.
Walt Lemon Jr. came just short of a triple-double : finishing with 30 points, 10 rebounds and seven assists : leading the Mad Ants to a 117-113 victory over the Canton Charge in Canton, Ohio, on Tuesday.
Walt Lemon Jr. came just short of a triple-double - he had 30 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists - leading the Mad Ants to a 117-113 victory over the Canton Charge in Canton, Ohio, on Tuesday.
When former Homestead basketball star Caleb Swanigan decided last year to enter the NBA draft, he certainly didn't think he would wind up in Canton, Ohio, or about to face his hometown Mad Ants of the G League.
But that's the situation Biggie's in : that tip-off at 7 p.m. today at Canton Memorial Civic Center : and he's not complaining.
COLUMBIA, MO. • Before he laid eyes on his new team, Missouri basketball coach Cuonzo Martin received an intriguing text message last spring from the reigning Big Ten player of the year. Caleb Swanigan, like Martin a standout player at Purdue, had a short but sweet scouting report on one of the players Martin was about to inherit from Kim Anderson’s roster.

Blazers opening season without CJ McCollum
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The season opener for the Portland Trail Blazers has come with an unexpected twist: The absence of starter CJ McCollum, who is suspended for Wednesday's game at Phoenix.
The suspension was handed down Saturday. McCollum was disciplined for leaving the bench when Portland's Caleb Swanigan and the Suns' Alex Len tussled in the fourth quarter of a preseason game last Wednesday night — coincidentally in Phoenix.
NBA suspends Portland’s CJ McCollum for a game
NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA has handed Portland guard CJ McCollum a one-game suspension for leaving the bench area during an altercation.
McCollum took several steps onto the floor when Portland's Caleb Swanigan and Phoenix's Alex Len tussled in the fourth quarter of the teams' preseason game Wednesday night. McCollum did not engage anyone, but leaving the bench area merited the penalty under NBA rules.
It was another terrific Summer League game Tuesday for Caleb Swanigan, the Homestead graduate and first-round draft pick of the Portland Trail Blazers.
In a 99-85 loss to the San Antonio Spurs in Las Vegas, Swanigan made 8 of 14 shots for 19 points with 13 rebounds, although he was overshadowed by the Spurs' Bryn Forbes, who had 35 points on 11-of-26 shooting.

Gonzaga went 37-2 last season and lost to North Carolina in the NCAA Tournament championship game.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Caleb Swanigan looks and sounds like a different basketball player this May.
He's nearly 11 pounds lighter than the Indiana Pacers' listed him for Monday's draft workout, down almost 15 pounds from his freshman playing weight at Purdue and appears to be in the best shape of his life. He continues to fine-tune his 3-point shooting, but he is still trying to figure out a possible fit in the NBA — and he could return for his junior year with the Boilermakers.

A look at things to watch this week in the Big Ten:
Purdue guards lead way past Iowa 89-67
WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) — The primary school of thought when playing No. 15 Purdue is to attempt to contain post players Caleb Swanigan and Isaac Haas while gambling that the Boilermaker guards won't make enough perimeter shots to produce a victory.
Iowa adhered to that strategy Wednesday night in each team's Big Ten opener, and paid dearly for the risk.
Freshman guard Carsen Edwards scored 19 points and junior guard Dakota Mathias added 17 as Purdue dominated Iowa 89-67.
