Bills name Hall receivers coach; Hire Dorsey to coach QBs

Chasing Brady: Donald, Suh to lead Rams’ Super Bowl pursuit
ATLANTA (AP) — Practically every member of the Los Angeles Rams has a favorite story about Aaron Donald's feats of ridiculous athleticism.

Panthers owner: Team needs backup plan if Newton can’t play
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers are preparing for life without Cam Newton next season in case the team's franchise quarterback can't make it back from a lingering shoulder injury.
Panthers owner David Tepper said Tuesday that while the team is exhausting all options to make sure Newton's throwing shoulder gets the medical attention he needs this offseason, it is important to "keep their options open."
Former Gillette standout has new gig with NFL Madden
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Clint Oldenburg once had Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton take off his walking boot after the star NFL player had ankle surgery.
Newton was taking a tour of the EA Sports offices in Orlando, Florida, and he had one thing on his mind.
Newton, listed at 6-foot-5 and 245 pounds, is an athletic wonder. He's built like a linebacker, can run like a running back and has an arm that can make even the most talented quarterbacks envious.

Allen thrives until injury, Panthers beat Brees-less Saints
NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Panthers undrafted rookie Kyle Allen turned in a promising first NFL start — until he hurt his shoulder.
Whether the New Orleans defense that Allen victimized was entirely dialed in is another matter.
Allen passed for 228 yards and two touchdowns before his injury in the fourth quarter, and Carolina cruised to a 33-14 victory over a Saints squad looking ahead to the playoffs.
QB Heinicke placed on IR; Allen set to start vs. Saints
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Taylor Heinicke's stint as the Panthers starting quarterback was a brief one.
Carolina placed Heinicke on injured reserve Wednesday after he sustained a left elbow injury in his first career NFL start, a 24-10 loss to the Falcons on Sunday. Coach Ron Rivera said undrafted rookie Kyle Allen will start against the Saints this weekend with Carolina already eliminated from playoff contention.
Panthers QB Heinicke out to prove he’s no joke vs. Falcons
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — It wasn't long after Taylor Heinicke was named the Panthers' starting quarterback for Sunday's game against the Falcons that the jokes began rolling in.
Panthers center Ryan Kalil laughed that he might have to bring down his shotgun snaps so they don't go flying over the 6-foot QB's head. Running back Christian McCaffrey teased that he's glad he won't look so small in the backfield anymore now that Heinicke has taken over for the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Cam Newton.
Linebacker Shaq Thompson the latest Panther to go on IR
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers placed outside linebacker Shaq Thompson on injured reserve with a shoulder injury.
The team signed undrafted rookie quarterback Kyle Allen to the active roster from the practice squad on Thursday. Allen will serve as Carolina's backup to Taylor Heinicke on Sunday when the Panthers host the Falcons in what is essentially a meaningless game. Cam Newton will be inactive with a shoulder injury.
Panthers sitting QB Newton; Heinicke to start vs. Falcons
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton is headed to the bench with a sore shoulder.
The Panthers made the decision to shut down the 2015 league MVP for at least one game and possibly the remainder of the season due to a lingering right shoulder problem.
Coach Ron Rivera said Taylor Heinicke will make his first career start when Carolina hosts the Falcons on Sunday. Kyle Allen will be Carolina's backup and Newton will be inactive.
Rivera uncertain if he will shut down ailing QB Cam Newton
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera hasn't ruled out shutting down quarterback Cam Newton for the season because of a sore right throwing shoulder.
Rivera said Tuesday he plans to meet with Newton later in the week and figure out where he is "in terms of his physical state and mental state" before deciding if he will start Sunday against Atlanta.
"It's a tough situation right now," Rivera added. "Until I get a chance to visit with him I'm not going to speculate."
Saints’ D puts clamps on Newton in 12-9 win over Panthers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints still have one of the league's top-scoring offenses, but lately it's the defense that's been carrying the NFL's most complete team.
On a night when Brees and the offense couldn't get much going and made some uncharacteristic mistakes, New Orleans put the clamps on Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers in a 12-9 victory on Monday night, moving the Saints into position to lock up home-field advantage in the NFC playoffs.
Saints’ sweep of Panthers never far from QB Newton’s mind
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton keeps a black and yellow broom he was "gifted" by the Saints hanging in his locker, some omnipresent motivation after what happened a year ago when the Panthers met up with their NFC South rivals.
New Orleans swept Carolina, winning both regular-season games in 2017 before eliminating the Panthers from the first round of the playoffs in January with a 31-26 win at the Superdome.
Miller vows to keep timing snaps despite 3 flags last week
ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (AP) — Cleveland interim coach Gregg Williams warned his offensive linemen this week that Von Miller anticipates the snap as well as any pass rusher in the NFL.
"Oh yeah, you see that a lot, man. That's what he gets guys (on). He uses that to his advantage because a lot of guys panic as far as getting back," said Browns right tackle Chris Hubbard, who will try to keep the Broncos' star linebacker off quarterback Baker Mayfield this weekend.
Panthers’ playoff hopes take major blow with loss to Browns
CLEVELAND (AP) — Cam Newton's unique fashion choices remain exciting.
Everything else about the Carolina Panthers looks stale.
Unable to come up with big plays down the stretch again, the reeling Panthers suffered their fifth straight loss, a 26-20 setback to the Cleveland Browns on Sunday that puts a major dent in Carolina's playoff hopes.
Mayfield, “dangerous” Browns hand Panthers fifth loss in row
CLEVELAND (AP) — Baker Mayfield took the snap in victory formation and dropped to one knee. The cocky rookie quarterback urged the crowd to make more noise, and when the clock hit zeroes, the stadium's sound system blasted "Danger Zone."
The Browns have become hazardous to your playoff health.
Big issue: Browns concerned with Newton’s size vs. Panthers
CLEVELAND (AP) — During a meeting this week with his defense, Browns interim coach Gregg Williams used star end Myles Garrett as a model.
And a warning.
A 6-foot-4, 270-pound mass of chiseled muscle, power and speed, Garrett cuts an imposing figure. He's a physical specimen, the kind of athlete that stands out even in a room full of elite humans.
Oh, and he happens to be about the same size as Carolina quarterback Cam Newton.
Newton says he’ll be ready to play vs Browns; coach unsure
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton insists he isn't missing a game.
The Panthers quarterback said he'll be ready to play against the Browns on Sunday despite lingering pain in his throwing shoulder. But coach Ron Rivera wasn't quite as certain Wednesday, leaving the door open by saying, "We'll see. We're not even to Friday."
Winston throws for 2 TDs, Buccaneers beat Panthers 24-17
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers got after Cam Newton all game long, sacking the Carolina star four times and intercepting four of his passes.
"The 'D' was fantastic," coach Dirk Koetter said after Sunday's 24-17 victory over the reeling Panthers.
Truth is, though, the Bucs go as Jameis Winston does.
The fourth-year pro delivered another strong performance in his second start since regaining the starting quarterback job, outplaying Newton and fueling hope for a season-ending turnaround.
Christian McCaffrey’s durability keying Panthers’ offense
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — When Carolina's Christian McCaffrey ripped off a 59-yard run against the Seattle Seahawks, there was no tapping his helmet.
He wasn't coming out of the game.
The second-year running back told Cam Newton in the huddle before the next play "I'm ready to go," then took a handoff on the next play and picked up another 15 yards.
"Any other average running back would've tapped his head and said, 'I need a blow,'" Newton said.
QBs looking to elevate Panthers, Buccaneers down stretch
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Cam Newton and Jameis Winston know there's no surefire way for a quarterback to lead a team out of a funk.
What works in one situation may not necessarily be the answer in another.
Newton's second-place Carolina Panthers (6-5) have lost three straight games following a 6-2 start, moving closer to the bottom of the NFC South than the top.
Falcons preparing for new challenge from Ravens QB Jackson
ATLANTA (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons must prepare for two quarterbacks as they await Sunday's visit from the Baltimore Ravens.
Of the two, rookie Lamar Jackson is the hot topic of the week in the Falcons' locker room.
The Falcons, who face Carolina and Cam Newton in the NFC South twice each season, have prepared for other mobile quarterbacks. Defensive tackle Grady Jarrett says Jackson belongs in a different category.

Panthers’ playoff hopes take hit with 3-game skid
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton sat at his locker for several minutes after Sunday's game, his elbows resting on his knees and his hands cupped firmly around the back of his head while staring motionless at the floor.
The 2015 MVP couldn't believe how the Panthers had managed to lose their third straight game, 30-27 to the Seattle Seahawks — despite playing so well offensively for the majority of the game.
Bad penalties, bad decisions, bad coaching. And bad losses.
Bad penalties, bad decisions, bad coaching.
And bad losses.
They occurred all over the NFL on Sunday. The Jaguars , Cardinals, Chargers and Falcons all will be shaking their heads the way their fans are about how they blew games.
Panthers go for 2 and fail late and lose 20-19 to Lions
DETROIT (AP) — Cam Newton took a shotgun snap and set up in a clean pocket, surveying the field from sideline to sideline. The star quarterback had time and an open receiver in the end zone, giving the Carolina Panthers a chance to convert a go-ahead, 2-point conversion against the Detroit Lions.
Newton, though, wasted the opportunity by sliding to his left and sailing an off-balance throw behind and over Jarius Wright.
The Latest: Lions rookie RB Johnson leaves with injury
The Latest on Week 11 in the NFL (all times EST):
Detroit rookie Kerryon Johnson left the game against Carolina in the third quarter with an apparent left knee injury and is questionable to return.
Johnson has 87 yards on 15 carries on the day, including Detroit's only touchdown so far. The Lions lead 13-7.

Rivera tells Panthers to get away from football after loss
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera wants his players to get away from football, just for a little while.
A day after a humiliating 52-21 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers, Carolina's eighth-year coach said it may just be what the Panthers need.
"Sometimes the best medicine is to forget about it and then come back ready to roll," Rivera said Friday, adding that they should focus on something other than football.
That advice doesn't apply to Rivera and his coaching staff.
Panthers can’t recover from early deficit in blowout loss
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The Carolina Panthers fell behind early and never recovered.
Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers offense used an early surge and a first-quarter defensive touchdown to jump out to a big lead as the Steelers pounded the Panthers 52-21 on Thursday night for their fifth straight victory.
Surging Newton, Panthers face red-hot Steelers
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Cam Newton spent a portion of the summer studying Ben Roethlisberger and working out alongside Antonio Brown, something the Carolina Panthers quarterback did out of a mix of curiosity and respect.
Newton found himself enamored of Roethlisberger's footwork — "The play is never over for Big Ben" — and Brown's relentlessness.
Newton, McCaffrey lead Panthers past Bucs 42-28
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton can't keep from grinning when he looks around at the playmakers that surround him in the Panthers' locker room.
"The talent level we have on this team is extremely scary," Newton said.
Newton, Panthers’ offense hitting stride under Turner
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Concerns over how Cam Newton might adjust to Norv Turner's offense have ceased.
The worries been replaced by talk of Newton being an MVP candidate again.
Newton is thriving in his first season under the 66-year-old offensive coordinator. The Panthers are 5-2 and picking up a head of steam on offense entering Sunday's home game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Newton scores 3 TDs, Panthers defeat Ravens 36-21
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton and the Carolina Panthers didn't wait until the fourth quarter to turn it up a notch on offense.
The result was an impressive win against the league's top-ranked defense.
Newton completed 21 of 29 passes for 219 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 52 yards and another score as the Panthers soundly defeated the Baltimore Ravens 36-21 on Sunday for their ninth straight win at home.
Ravens’ No. 1 defense looks to stop ‘fast dinosaur’ Newton
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Baltimore Ravens safety Eric Weddle likened Panthers quarterback Cam Newton to a "fast dinosaur" this week.
"Muscular and big," Weddle said. "He's a very unique quarterback in the league, the only one really like him."
Newton, Panthers winning without throwing the deep ball
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton and the Panthers are proving they can win without throwing the ball deep down the field.
The 2015 league MVP has attempted 16 passes — and completed just three — that have travelled longer than 20 yards in the air this season, according the NFL's Next Gen stats. That's far fewer than most other NFL quarterbacks. Kansas City's Patrick Mahomes, for instance, has completed 17 of 42 passes beyond 20 yards, with eight of those going for touchdowns.
Correction: Panthers-Hurry Up story
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — In a story Oct. 22 about the Carolina Panthers offense, The Associated Press erroneously reported Cam Newton's ranking among active quarterbacks in fourth-quarter comebacks. He is 11th in fourth quarter comebacks among active quarterbacks, not first.
A corrected version of the story is below:
Panthers going to hurry-up offense? Not so fast, says Rivera
Panthers coach Ron Rivera says team will continue to use no-huddle offense — in certain situations
