ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Running back LeSean McCoy might still be, as he puts it, "The Guy" in a Buffalo Bills backfield that also features the NFL's active leading rusher, Frank Gore.
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Buffalo Bills rookie receiver Ray-Ray McCloud has been ruled out for Sunday's game at Indianapolis for a "non-injury reason."
The Bills did not elaborate in announcing McCloud did not travel Saturday.
McCloud's absence leaves the Bills with four active receivers. They include rookie Cam Phillips, who had just been promoted from the practice squad Thursday after Buffalo released Robert Foster.
Josh Jackson has been getting ready since January, watching film of No. 19 Florida State's defense in preparation for Virginia Tech's opener on the road Monday night.
That's good news for the No. 20 Hokies, who may need the offense to carry the early load in Tallahassee, Florida.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Cam Phillips had 117 yards receiving and scored the game-winning touchdown, and Virginia Tech's defense kept Pittsburgh out of the end zone on the final play to lift the Hokies to a 20-14 victory over the Panthers on Saturday.
No. 16 Virginia Tech (4-1, 0-1 ACC) at Boston College (2-3, 0-2), Saturday, 7:15 p.m. ET (ESPN2)
No. 12 Virginia Tech can make a strong case that it is an Atlantic Coast Conference title contender when the Hokies face No. 2 Clemson on Saturday night.
The game is a rematch of last year's ACC title game, won by the Tigers 42-35, and while Clemson went on to win the national championship, the Hokies were left to stew over coming up just short. Virginia Tech had the ball at the Tigers' 23 late in the game before a fourth-down interception ended their hopes of a tying, or winning, touchdown.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Steven Peoples had scored three career touchdowns for No. 13 Virginia Tech heading into Saturday's game against Old Dominion.
Now he's scored six, including a right-place-at-the-right-time deflection that turned his good day into a career day.
The Associated Press has been honoring college football's best with an All-America team since 1925. This season, the AP released its first preseason All-America team and will also weigh-in with a midseason team before the full, three-team All-America selections are unveiled in December. The second installment of the weekly All-America watch:
GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — Virginia Tech made everything look easy, from its young quarterback connecting downfield with his go-to veteran to a defense that spent three quarters shutting down just about everything.
Redshirt freshman Josh Jackson threw for 372 yards and five touchdowns — three to Cam Phillips — to help the 16th-ranked Hokies beat East Carolina 64-17 on Saturday, giving them a 3-0 start for the first time since 2011.
BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — Greg Stroman returned a punt for a touchdown and Josh Jackson threw two scoring passes to carry No. 18 Virginia Tech to a 27-0 victory over Delaware on Saturday.
Stroman broke a scoreless game late in the first quarter when he fielded a punt, made a nice cut to dodge a would-be tackler and went untouched for a 61-yard touchdown. He became the first player in Virginia Tech history to return a punt for a touchdown in three consecutive seasons.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Virginia Tech wide receiver Cam Phillips certainly made a fashion statement at the Atlantic Coast Conference's preseason media days.
The senior put together a bold look for Friday's interviews, starting with the bronze double-breasted velvet jacket. His ensemble included flip-up shades over round eyeglass frames to top off the ankles-exposed sockless look that accented his shiny black shoes.
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) — Virginia Tech proved it can overcome a slow start and turnovers.
The Hokies fell behind by 17 points early and trailed by 10 to start the fourth quarter, but Jerod Evans guided them to a touchdown and a pair of field goals by Joey Slye in the quarter to beat Notre Dame 34-31 Saturday.
