Panthers RB Artis-Payne expected to start with Stewart out
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cameron Artis-Payne is expected to start at running back for the Carolina Panthers against the Minnesota Vikings because Jonathan Stewart is sidelined with a hamstring injury.
Coach Ron Rivera said Friday Artis-Payne would start unless the Panthers opened the game in a special formation that includes Fozzy Whittaker. Artis-Payne and Whittaker will split carries.
Rivera: RB Artis-Payne to start vs. Vikings; Stewart out
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers coach Ron Rivera says running back Cameron Artis-Payne will start Sunday against the Minnesota Vikings.
However, Rivera says he expects Artis-Payne to split carries almost equally with Fozzy Whittaker, who had 100 yards rushing on 16 carries last week in a 47-26 win against the San Francisco 49ers.
The Panthers will be without running back Jonathan Stewart (hamstring) for at least a few weeks.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Welcome back to the big stage, Jerick McKinnon and Fozzy Whittaker.
Oh, and Matt Asiata and Cameron Artis-Payne, get ready to carry the football, too.
FANTASY PLAYS: When decisions get messy because of injuries
By the end of this week — when the severity of the hamstring, groin, knee, and shoulder injuries suffered in Week 2 crystallizes — fantasy owners may only have one or two players lost for a significant amount of time.
While this may seem like good news, it's actually going to create a messy set of logic games on the waiver wire.
Stewart’s injury means more time for Whittaker, Artis-Payne
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers might have to rely on Fozzy Whittaker and Cameron Artis-Payne to carry their running game for a while.
Panthers coach Ron Rivera expressed concern over Jonathan Stewart's injured hamstring that forced the nine-year pro to leave Carolina's 47-26 win Sunday over the San Francisco 49ers in the first quarter.

He showed Thursday night he's up to the task.
