Fever snap 5-game skid, beat Sky 97-92 in finale
CHICAGO (AP) — Candice Dupree and Cappie Pondexter had 22 points each to help the Indiana Fever close the season with a 97-92 victory over the Chicago Sky on Sunday.
The Fever snapped a five-game losing to finish a WNBA-worst 6-28.
Kelsey Mitchell and Tiffany Mitchell added 14 points apiece for Indiana, and Natalie Achonwa had 11.
Fever beat Wings 84-78 for 4th win of season
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Cappie Pondexter scored 18 points to lead six Indiana players in double figures and the Fever beat the Dallas Wings 84-78 on Thursday night for their fourth victory of the season.
Erica Wheeler made two free throws with 25.6 seconds left to give the Fever (4-23) an 82-74 lead. Dallas answered with a four-point possession, but Pondexter sealed it with two free throws.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Breanna Stewart had 26 points and 10 rebounds, Sue Bird also had a double-double and the league-leading Seattle Storm eased past the last-place Indiana Fever 92-72 on Tuesday night.
Natasha Howard added 16 points and nine rebounds for Seattle (19-7). Jewell Loyd scored 13 points and Bird had 11 points and 11 assists.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Candice Dupree and Cappie Pondexter each scored 16 points and the last-place Indiana Fever beat the short-handed Los Angeles Sparks 78-76 on Friday night to end a five-game losing streak.
Natalie Achonwa's steal and assist to Pondexter gave Indiana a 77-70 lead, but Candace Parker answered with her eighth straight point for Los Angeles with 2:25 left. Neither team scored again until Chelsea Gray's baseline jumper with 27 seconds to go made it 77-74.
ATLANTA (AP) — Renee Montgomery made a franchise-record seven 3-pointers and scored 24 points, helping the Atlanta Dream beat the New York Liberty 82-68 on Thursday night for their sixth straight victory.
Montgomery was 5 of 11 from 3-point range in the first half. The club mark was six 3-pointers in a game, done twice by Betty Lenox. Montgomery broke the record with 4:14 left in the third quarter and did not attempt another shot.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Sylvia Fowles scored a season-high 30 points and grabbed 16 rebounds to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the Indiana Fever 89-65 on Wednesday.
Fowles, the reigning MVP, was 13 of 15 from the field as Minnesota shot 52.4 percent, including 9 of 19 from 3-point range. She moved into fourth with 558 career blocks, passing Tangela Smith on the WNBA list. Margo Dydek (1998-2008) holds the record with 877.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Brittney Griner had a season-high 36 points and grabbed 12 boards to help the Phoenix Mercury snap a three-game skid with a 101-82 win over the Indiana Fever on Sunday.
The Mercury (15-8) took the lead for good on the opening basket of the third quarter but didn't pull away until a 15-4 run made it 84-71 early in the fourth.
Diana Taurasi added 22 points for Phoenix, which finished a four-game road swing with its only win of the trip.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Azura Stevens scored a career-high 26 points, and the Dallas Wings never trailed in a 90-63 win over the Indiana Fever on Thursday night.
The Wings (9-8) opened the game with an 8-0 run and pulled away with a 19-4 run that ended at 33-16 early in the second quarter. The Fever (2-17) got as close as 47-36 early in the third quarter, but Dallas extended the lead to 65-41 and closed the game on a 7-0 run to take its largest lead at the final score.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Natalie Achonwa had 17 points and nine rebounds to help the Indiana Fever beat the Minnesota Lynx 71-59 on Tuesday night.
The Fever (2-16) won their first regular-season game at the Target Center since 2011.
Achonwa shot 7 of 10 from the field and tied her career-high with three blocks. Rookie Victoria Vivians had 13 points — her fifth consecutive game scoring in double figures — and Cappie Pondexter added a season-high 12 points for Indiana.
The Indiana Fever signed veteran guard Cappie Pondexter to a free agent contract on Sunday and waived rookie Hind Ben Abdelkader.
Pondexter, who was waived by the Sparks on Thursday, is a seven-time All-Star and has won two WNBA titles. She averaged nearly 10 minutes for Los Angeles this season before she was released.
The 5-foot-9 guard provides Indiana with additional leadership. Indiana (1-15) is off to the worst start in franchise history.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Two-time WNBA champion Cappie Pondexter has been released by the Los Angeles Sparks, leaving her free to sign with another WNBA team.
The 35-year-old guard averaged 3.6 points and 10.3 minutes playing in 13 games this season.
Pondexter won two WNBA championships in Phoenix. She has also played for New York and Chicago during her 12-year career in the league. She was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2006 draft.

Vandersloot added 10 assists and seven rebounds while Allie Quigley had 15 points, six assists and three blocks and Cappie Pondexter scored 12 points for Chicago (10-16).

Vandersloot keyed Chicago's 14-0 run for a 70-58 lead with big plays on three straight possessions. She banked in a 3-pointer, made a no-look pass to Bashaara Graves for a layup and hit a pull-up jumper in transition.

After a timeout with 20.4 seconds left, Courtney Vandersloot curled around the defense, drove the baseline and found an open Dolson in the corner for a 3-pointer.

PHOENIX (AP) — Brittney Griner scored 27 points and Diana Taurasi had 15 to move closer to the WNBA scoring record after the Phoenix Mercury beat the Chicago Sky 86-78 on Friday night.
Heading into Sunday's game in Los Angeles, Taurasi is 14 shy of passing the 7,488 points set by Tina Thompson from 1997-2013. Phoenix's star was just 2 of 10 from the field and had nine points, all in the first half, until making six free throws in the final minute.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Allie Quigley scored nine of her 16 points in overtime, including back-to-back 3-pointers, and Stefanie Dolson finished with 25 points to help the Chicago Sky beat the San Antonio Stars 85-81 on Saturday night.
Tamera Young had 21 points, seven rebounds and three steals for the Sky (2-7), who snapped a five-game skid.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 20 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, and the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Chicago Sky 79-70 on Tuesday night.
Los Angeles was just 4-of-16 shooting in the third quarter, but scored on its first three possessions of the fourth for a 62-53 lead. Chicago got within 67-62, but Alana Beard's back-door cut for a layup and Chelsea Gray's basket in traffic made it a nine-point lead with 2:13 to go.
Mystics beat Sky, Fever defeat Sparks
ROSEMONT, Illinois (AP) — Elena Delle Donne had 21 points and eight rebounds in her return to Chicago as the Washington Mystics beat the Sky 82-67 on Wednesday.
The 2015 MVP asked to be traded in the offseason after four seasons with the Sky. She opened the scoring with a turnaround jumper from the free throw line and finished 7 of 15 from the floor.
Tierra Ruffin-Pratt added 15 points and 10 rebounds for Washington (2-2).
ATLANTA (AP) — Stefanie Dolson tied her career high with 23 points, on 10-of 13 shooting, grabbed eight rebounds and blocked five shots and the Chicago Sky beat the Atlanta Dream 75-71 on Sunday.
Cappie Pondexter added 20 points with 11 assists — her first double-double since July 6, 2014 — and Jessica Breland had a season-high 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for Chicago (1-2), which trailed by as many as 13 points in the first half.

Chicago Sky hire Stocks as new head coach/GM
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Sky hired Los Angeles Sparks assistant Amber Stocks as its new head coach Tuesday.
Stocks replaces Pokey Chatman, who the Sky let go after she guided Chicago to an 18-16 record and an appearance in the WNBA semifinals. She won 106 games in Chicago and led the team to its first-ever playoff appearance in 2013 and a trip to the WNBA Finals in 2014.
Rutgers retires former star Cappie Pondexter’s jersey
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) — Cappie Pondexter had to fight back tears as Rutgers retired her jersey at halftime of their game against Duke on Thursday night.
The former Rutgers basketball star became the third women's player at the school to have that honor, with her No. 25 joining June Olkowski and Sue Wicks in the rafters. Pondexter helped the Scarlet Knights reach the NCAA Tournament regional final her junior season.
