Mixed start for US at team golf event, South Korea perfect
INCHEON, South Korea (AP) — The United States had a mixed start on the opening day of the UL International Crown team golf tournament on Thursday, splitting the fourballs against Sweden, while favorite South Korea collected a maximum four points with two wins over Taiwan.
Cristie Kerr and Lexi Thompson gave the U.S. a winning start in the eight-nation, 32-player tournament against Pernilla Lindberg and Madelene Sagstrom to win 2-up.
Henderson, Hedwall share lead at Marathon Classic
SYLVANIA, Ohio (AP) — Brooke Henderson has struggled in her past two appearances at the Marathon Classic.
The 20-year old Canadian finds herself tied for the lead after two rounds of the tournament following a bogey-free 5-under par 66 on Friday to move into a tie with Caroline Hedwall. Both are at 9-under 133 through 36 holes.
"It's just fun to be in contention again and to see your name at the top of the leaderboard, it's exciting, and hopefully good things will happen," Henderson said.
Lydia Ko tied for LPGA Tour lead at chilly Lake Merced
DALY CITY, Calif. (AP) — Lydia Ko was back on top at Lake Merced.
Ko shot a 4-under 68 on a chilly Thursday morning at the LPGA MEDIHEAL Championship for a share of the first-round lead. Jessica Korda, Caroline Hedwall, In-Kyung Kim and Su Oh joined Ko atop the leaderboard in the LPGA Tour's return to Lake Merced after a year away.
"This is a golf course where you need to drive the ball well and putt well," said Ko, the Swinging Skirts LPGA Classic winner at the course in 2014 and 2015.
CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Cristie Kerr blew a five-stroke lead Saturday in the Kia Classic to set up a final-round showdown at Aviara Golf Club.
A day after shooting an 8-under 64 to open the big lead, Kerr had a 75 to drop a stroke behind playing partner Lizette Salas, Eun-Hee Ji and In-Kyung Kim. Kerr was tied with Caroline Hedwall, Wei-Ling Hsu and Cindy LaCrosse, and four players were another shot back in the final event before the major ANA Inspiration next week at Mission Hills.
54-year-old Laura Davies shoots 82 week after contending
CARLSBAD, Calif. (AP) — Laura Davies had a nightmare round days after contending for a title at age 54, and Caroline Hedwall, Jackie Stoelting and Hee Young Park topped the Kia Classic leaderboard.
Davies shot a 10-over 82 on Thursday at rainy Aviara Golf Club — four days after tying for second behind Inbee Park in the Founders Cup, and five days after shooting a 9-under 63 in the Phoenix event.
Jin Young Ko takes 1st-round lead at Women’s Australian Open
ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Jin Young Ko made six birdies on the back nine in her LPGA Tour debut to take a two-stroke lead in the opening round of the Women's Australian Open on Thursday.
Ko, playing in one of the final afternoon groups at Kooyanga, carded a 7-under-par 65 to move past second-place Jiyai Shin, a fellow South Korean.
Asked about her goals for the week, Ko replied: "First one is make the cut, second one is enjoy."
Minjee Lee takes Vic Open lead, Cheyenne Woods shoots 80
BARWON HEADS, Australia (AP) — Australian Minjee Lee shot a 6-under 67 to take a three-stroke lead Friday after two rounds of the Vic Open, the first tournament of the year on the Ladies European Tour.
Lee, who had a two-round total of 9-under 137, has played all 36 holes without a bogey — 18 holes Thursday on the Creek Course and 18 Friday on the Beach Course at the 13th Beach Golf Links.
