Veterinarians revive cat that nearly froze in Montana
KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) — Veterinarians in Montana revived a cat named Fluffy that nearly froze to death after being found in a snowbank covered from head to tail in ice and snow.
Dr. Jevon Clark of the Animal Clinic of Kalispell said Thursday that Fluffy was unresponsive and her body temperature didn't register on the clinic's thermometers when her owners brought her in a week earlier.
Bill requires adoption option for research dogs and cats
OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Dogs and cats that have been used for laboratory testing at public universities and other research facilities would have to be offered for adoption before being euthanized under a measure being considered by a Senate committee.

Hawaii Supreme Court rejects appeal over abandoned kittens
HONOLULU (AP) — The Hawaii State Supreme Court has rejected an appeal by a woman ordered to pay a fine for abandoning kittens at a park.
Susan Owen must pay $150.
Owen took her case to the state's high court after an appeals court upheld a judge's guilty verdict against her.
In 2016, state lawmakers enacted a pet animal desertion law. The crime is punishable by a fine of up to $2,000 and a year in jail.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A Wasilla woman has been reunited with a cat that disappeared more than three years ago from its home at Joint Base Elmendorf-Richardson.
The Anchorage Daily News reports that a woman at the base messaged Lynsey Ryan that a stray cat she had fed for months resembled a photo posted on Facebook missing-pets pages.

The Huntington County Sheriff's Department writes on Facebook that a fisherman spotted the feline stranded on the spillway at the J. Edward Roush Lake dam.

Matt Madcharo of the Capital Humane Society says the anonymous owner turned over some of the cats Saturday and the rest on Sunday.
Many were immunized for feline leukemia this week, and neutering and spaying got underway as well.

Missing Michigan cat found 2 months later in Florida
DETROIT (AP) — A cat who went missing from suburban Detroit for two months turned up more than 1,000 miles (1,600 kilometers) away in Florida.
Dearborn resident Judy Sanborn was shocked when she received a call in December from BluePearl pet hospital in Tampa, The Detroit Free Press reported . Staff told her they had her 2 1/2-year-old tabby named Bandit.
Plague confirmed in northern Wyoming cat
GILLETTE, Wyo. (AP) — Health officials say a cat in northern Wyoming has been infected with plague.
The Gillette News Record reports the cat from the Kaycee area in Johnson County is the third plague-infected feline identified in northern Wyoming in the last six months. No human cases have been reported.

The Salem News reports that 43-year-old Peter Rice, of Salem, pleaded not guilty Wednesday to charges including animal cruelty and carrying a dangerous weapon.
Barn fire in Shawano County kills dozens of animals
SHAWANO, Wis. (AP) — Cows, horses, cats, dogs and chickens were killed when fire destroyed a barn in Shawano County.
The sheriff's office says barn in the Town of Red Spring was fully engulfed when deputies arrived on scene about 4 a.m. Wednesday. The owner of the barn says 30 cows, six horses, cats, dogs and chicken died in the fire.
The cause of the fire has not been determined, but is not believed to be suspicious.
Oregon couple arrested after allegedly mistreating 35 cats
SALEM, Ore. (AP) — Police in Oregon say a couple has been arrested after they enclosed 35 cats into a U-Haul for three days with no food or water. Three of the felines died.
The Marion County Sheriff's Office said Friday that 52-year-old Richard Kleimeier and his 46-year-old wife Jenny Kleimeier were booked for multiple counts of animal neglect.
Richard Kleimeier works for the city of Salem and his wife works for the state.

The zoo plans to introduce an ocelot kitten named Amara on Saturday during its Rainforest Falls Day celebration. The cat was born to mother Ayla and father Pedro on Sept. 25. She is the pair's third kitten.
Zoo officials say Amara's name is of German origin and means "steadfast" and "immortal."

News outlets report Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms signed an ordinance into law Tuesday that aims to discourage the operation of puppy and kitten mills. The mills are often accused of keeping animals in inhumane conditions. The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals says Atlanta is the ninth Georgia city to pass such an ordinance.
