Whyte lifts Boston U. past Army, 61-59 in Patriot finale
WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) — Walter Whyte turned a 3-point play with 11 seconds left in the game to lift Boston University to a 61-59 win at Army in the Patriot League regular season finale Saturday afternoon.
The Terriers clinched a first-round tournament bye with a win over Lafayette Wednesday, and if Lehigh loses to the Leopards, they would host a quarterfinal game on Thursday.
BU carries 2nd-half run to 81-65 win over Lafayette
BOSTON (AP) — Javante McCoy scored 21 points and Cedric Hankerson 17 and Boston University defeated Lafayette 81-65 on Wednesday.
The Terriers (13-15, 7-10 Patriot League) seized control of the game with a 17-2 run to start the second half, led 53-43 with 14:04 left and were never threatened. McCoy made a pair of 3-pointers and Hankerson and Walter Whyte each added 3s and BU was up 67-50 with 8:07 remaining.
Lewis leads Navy past Boston University 62-48
BOSTON (AP) — Mo Lewis had career highs of 12 points and eight rebounds and Navy beat Boston University 62-48 on Saturday.
Hasan Abdullah and Shawn Anderson both had 13 points for the Midshipmen (19-10, 10-6 Patriot League), who won their fourth straight overall and sixth straight on the road. Tom Lacey also had 12 points.
Cedric Hankerson had 11 points for the Terriers (12-15, 8-8), who have lost five straight— their longest conference skid since losing eight straight in the 1999-00 season.
Iorio scores 22, blocks 6 and American downs Boston U 60-56
WASHINGTON (AP) — Sam Iorio scored 22 points on five 3-pointers, blocked a career-best six shots and pulled down 10 rebounds, Sa'eed Nelson scored 17 and American defeated Boston University 60-56 Wednesday night, ending a seven-game skid.
Boston launched a pair of 3-pointers in the last 8.2 seconds and Iorio, a 6-foot-5 freshman, blocked the last one out of bounds with 2.2 seconds on the clock, extending the Boston skid to four games and keeping the Terriers winless in February.
Iorio leads American to 69-58 upset over Boston U.
BOSTON (AP) — Sam Iorio scored a career-best 26 points to lead American University in a 69-58 upset over Boston University on Wednesday night.
Iorio was 9 of 20 from the floor, 5 of 10 from beyond the arc and had seven rebounds, four assists and six steals. Sa'eed Nelson added 18 points, five assists and four steals. Marvin Bragg chipped in nine points with six rebounds.
Hankerson, BU turn back Holy Cross 54-40
WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — Cedric Hankerson scored 10 points and reached a milestone to help Boston University stymie Holy Cross 54-40 on Sunday.
Hankerson's steal and dunk in the middle of the second half made him the 17th Terrier to reach 1,200 career points. He was the only player to reach double figures for BU (9-8, 5-1 Patriot League), who have won three straight.
Max Mahoney's layup as time expired in the first half but the Terriers up for good, 25-23.
Scanlon has double-double, helps Boston U beat Colgate 72-58
BOSTON (AP) — Tyler Scanlon had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Boston University beat cold-shooting Colgate 72-58 on Thursday night.
Boston U (8-8, 4-1 Patriot League) never trailed and a double-digit lead for most of the second half. Colgate (8-8, 3-2) made just 18 of 61 from the field (29.5 percent) and missed 28 shots from long range.
Boston University hits late FTs, holds off Bucknell 84-79
LEWISBURG, Pa. (AP) — Cedric Hankerson scored 21 points, and Javante McCoy made key free throws late to help Boston University beat Bucknell 84-79 on Tuesday night.
McCoy made the second of a pair of free throws to give Boston University (6-7, 2-0 Patriot League) a 75-69 lead. Zach Thomas hit a 3-pointer and Bruce Moore a layup to pull Bucknell to 77-74 with 33 seconds left. BU then made 7 of 8 free-throw attempts, including McCoy's 4-of-4 shooting, to seal it.
Hankerson propels Boston University past Army, 90-82
BOSTON (AP) — Cedric Hankerson hit five 3-pointers on his way to a season-high 33 points and Boston University turned back Army 90-82 in a Patriot League opener on Friday night.
Boston College coach Jim Christian could tell his team was lethargic on the defensive end in the first half.
He was especially happy they realized it, too, and played a lot better in the second.
Ky Bowman scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Boston College's balanced scoring that carried the Eagles to an 84-65 victory over Central Connecticut.
Elon uses late run to top Boston U 77-69
BOSTON (AP) — Steven Santa Ana scored 19 points with five of Elon's 15 3-pointers and the Phoenix used a late 10-0 run to defeat Boston University 77-69 on Sunday.
Brian Dawkins and Dainan Swoope hit back-to-back 3-pointers to put Elon (7-4) up 69-63 with 4:20 to play. Two minutes later Santa Ana made a pair of free throws and Jack Anton's layup made it 74-63 with 1:21 to go.
Boston University holds on, beats Bethune-Cookman 90-87
DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (AP) — Nick Havener scored 17, Max Mahoney added 16 and Boston University overcame a late surge from Bethune-Cookman for a 90-87 win on Friday night.
The Terriers (4-4) had a 9-0 run to lead 77-70, but the Wildcats (4-5) took an 85-84 lead with 1:21 left when Isaiah Bailey's 3-pointer capped a 7-1 run.
Boston University holds off New Hampshire 70-69
DURHAM, N.H. (AP) — Cedric Hankerson scored 17 points, Javante McCoy had the winning free throw, and Boston University held off New Hampshire 70-69 on Wednesday night.
Max Mahoney added 15 points and six rebounds for the Terriers (3-3), who won their third straight on the road.
Vital’s career night leads UConn to 85-66 win over Boston U
HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — UConn guard Christian Vital scored a total of nine points in the Huskies first two games of the season then asked for a heart-to-heart talk with coach Kevin Ollie.
The sophomore sharpshooter responded with a career-high 30 points on Sunday to lead Connecticut to an 85-66 win over Boston University.
Vital hit 9 of 15 shots and was 4 of 10 from 3-point range.
Nichols scores 20 to lead Albany past Boston U, 88-74
BOSTON (AP) — David Nichols had 20 points, six rebounds and five assists and Travis Charles scored 16 points on 7-of-10 shooting to help Albany beat Boston University 88-74 on Monday night.
Greg Stire added 14 points, Joe Cremo scored 12 and Devonte Campbell 10 for Albany (2-0).
