Noland, defense help Arkansas shut out Tulsa, 23-0
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — When Arkansas freshman quarterback Connor Noland trotted off the field after throwing an interception on the first drive, Razorbacks coach Chad Morris didn't have to say much to make sure his first-time starter stayed confident.

Morris stuck with his quarterback, and the move paid off in a 23-0 victory over Tulsa on Saturday.
Desperate Arkansas keeping hopes high against Tulsa
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Even in a year full of one disheartening setback after another, Arkansas' second-half collapse in a loss to Mississippi last week had a particular sting to it.

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Hjalte Froholdt has been through this before.
Like many of his experienced teammates, the senior offensive lineman has been a part of too many late-game losses and disappointments in his four years at Arkansas.
The latest crushing defeat came a week ago at Colorado State, a 34-27 loss in which the Razorbacks (1-1) allowed 25 straight points in a second-half collapse that quickly put an end to any honeymoon for first-year coach Chad Morris.
Arkansas eager to shed reputation for blowing late leads
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — The 10-point lead for Arkansas in the fourth quarter at Colorado State might have felt secure in some places. Not so much to those familiar with the Razorbacks under coach Bret Bielema.

Storey shines off bench for Arkansas in win over E. Illinois
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — First-year Arkansas coach Chad Morris said earlier this week that while Cole Kelley had been named the starting quarterback, he might not necessarily be the finisher.
Ty Storey may not have finished the Razorbacks' season-opening 55-20 win over Eastern Illinois on Saturday, but he did his best to put an end to the Arkansas quarterback discussion once and for all well before the end of the game.
Arkansas hopeful and eager for Chad Morris’ coaching debut
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — For all the excitement in Arkansas about the hiring of Chad Morris, any talk about the Razorbacks over the offseason included the recent past.
It's a past that features arguably the worst six-year stretch in school history, an embarrassing conclusion to the scandal-ridden Bobby Petrino era and a disappointing tenure under Bret Bielema, fired after last season.
Kelley to start at QB for Arkansas, Storey will play
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Cole Kelley ended last season on suspension from the Arkansas football program after his arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Arkansas intent on a quick turnaround under Chad Morris
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Dre Greenlaw thought winning a minimum of seven games last season was a given for Arkansas.

"About Game 7, you could feel the emotional drain start wearing on you," Greenlaw said of Arkansas' 4-8 record a year ago. "It was like, 'Dang, this is really happening.'"
Pressure-minded Chavis bringing swagger to Arkansas’ defense
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas defensive lineman McTelvin Agim thought long and hard in high school about attending Texas A&M, for one reason: Former Aggies defensive coordinator John Chavis.

A look at some SEC players poised for possible breakouts
Some of the Southeastern Conference players who were impressive during spring workouts and could be impact players next season:
DB Saivion Smith. The junior college transfer, a former five-star LSU signee, could make an immediate impact in a secondary short on experience. The Tide must replace its entire starting secondary, including unanimous All-American Minkah Fitzpatrick, plus a key reserve.
More than a decade after Nick Saban took over as the coach of Alabama, the rest of the Southeastern Conference is still trying to figure out how to consistently beat him.
A lot of coaches have tried. A lot of them have ended up unemployed.
Arkansas quarterback question to linger until August
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) — New Arkansas coach Chad Morris doesn't know yet who the starting quarterback will be when September's season opener comes around.
Whether Morris is holding off naming a starter until August as a motivational tactic, or because returners Cole Kelley and Ty Storey could possibly be pushed by an incoming freshman, is anyone's best guess.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) — Chad Morris arrived at Arkansas with the promise of turning the formerly pro-style Razorbacks into one of the most up-tempo teams in the Southeastern Conference.

Home run coaching hires hard to make from shallow pool
Making the home run hire seems to be more difficult than ever when it comes to college football coaches.
Silly season moved quickly this year, spinning this way and that over a frenetic couple of weeks. UCLA and Texas A&M both made a splash by hiring Chip Kelly and Jimbo Fisher, respectively. Tennessee flailed about for two weeks before hiring Jeremy Pruitt, a promising coordinator and Nick Saban disciple.
CLEMSON — It’s not unusual when you are one of the best teams in the nation to have your assistant coaches courted by other teams looking to fill vacancies within their coaching staffs. But that, strangely enough, is something that Clemson head coach Dabo Swinney has been able to avoid for the most part during the Tigers run over the last six years.
Road leads Sonny Dykes home to Texas and SMU
DALLAS (AP) — Sonny Dykes didn't even have to finish the story of his favorite SMU memory to stir some in the crowd who showed up to greet the Mustangs' new coach.
All he had to say was 1982, Lubbock and Texas Tech — and never mind that the thrilling SMU win on a last-second kickoff return was at the expense of the school that would later become the longtime coaching home of Dykes' late dad, Spike Dykes, and his alma mater.
SMU hires Texan and former Cal coach Dykes to replace Morris
SMU hired former California and Louisiana Tech coach Sonny Dykes on Monday as its new coach, replacing one Texan with a reputation for directing potent offenses for another.
