Soler home run leads Royals over A’s 5-4
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Tim Hill was happy to gain his first major league victory. The 28-year-old rookie left-hander could have done without his first blown save chance.
Jorge Soler hit a tiebreaking home run in the eighth inning, and the Kansas Royals bounced back after wasting a four-run lead to defeat the Oakland Athletics 5-4 on Saturday for their third win in four games.
"I was kind of upset I gave up a run, and I kind of felt like I didn't do my job," Hill said.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — Tampa Bay reliever Wilmer Font yielded Jed Lowrie's one-out single in the seventh for Oakland's first hit of the game.

Font then came in and retired Matt Chapman on a liner to shortstop. But then Lowrie got his hit.
Chapman lifts A’s over Diamondbacks 2-1
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A little patience at the plate helped the Athletics offset the normally pinpoint accuracy of Arizona pitcher Zack Greinke in the sixth inning.
It was just enough to beat the 2009 AL Cy Young winner and made a winner out of Oakland rookie Frankie Montas in his season debut.
Matt Chapman hit a tiebreaking RBI single off Greinke following a pair of two-out walks in the sixth, and the A's beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 on Sunday.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — For a team that's spent most of the season atop the American League standings and recently ran off seven straight wins, the Houston Astros suddenly look a little vulnerable.

The young A's were far from unnerved.
"The way the game was going, it didn't seem like it was out of reach the whole time," said Oakland's Chad Pinder. "I didn't get that vibe at all in the dugout. We just kept trying to put together good at-bats, and that's what everyone did."

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Oakland manager Bob Melvin was playing the matchups and getting a longer look at one of the Athletics' younger players when he opted to start right-handed slugger Ryon Healy at first base instead of All-Star Yonder Alonso.

Manager Bob Melvin went to the mound and brought in right-hander Liam Hendriks. Cotton gave up three hits and did not allow a run.
Khris Davis’ 2-run homer leads Athletics to sweep of Yankees
