Rio Ruiz homers in 9th to lift Orioles over Astros 8-7
BALTIMORE (AP) — Justin Verlander lasted only five innings against the Baltimore Orioles and walked off the mound in position to take his first loss since early July.
At Wrigley Field, misters in the back of the bleachers tried to cool the crowd. At Yankee Stadium, only one player took batting practice on the field. In Cleveland, rules were relaxed on what fans...

HOUSTON (AP) — Houston manager AJ Hinch isn't sure if Yuli Gurriel touched the plate on his team's winning run in the 11th inning on Friday night against the Baltimore Orioles.
CHICAGO (AP) — Backed by a bunch of runs right away, Dylan Bundy dominated.
Bundy struck out a career-high 14 and pitched a two-hitter for his second complete game in the majors, leading the Baltimore Orioles over the Chicago White Sox 9-3 on Thursday.
"Man, it was fun," Bundy said. "Our offense gave us a pretty big lead today early, so just trying to attack the hitters with fastballs early in the count and try to get ahead as best I could."
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Baltimore Orioles catcher Chance Sisco appeared to get knocked unconscious when teammate Pedro Alvarez's elbow hit him in the head while they chased a foul ball.
Sisco was hurt Tuesday night during the seventh inning of the Orioles' game against the Angels.
Alvarez and Sisco pursued Ian Kinsler's foul popup near the Angels' dugout. Alvarez reached out his glove and caught it, but Sisco slid into Alvarez's outstretched elbow.
Showalter strives for turnaround from last-place Orioles
BALTIMORE (AP) — The last time the Baltimore Orioles began a season this poorly, Buck Showalter was brought in to restore order to the floundering franchise.
Now, Showalter finds himself in a similar mess.
Back in 2010, the Orioles stumbled to a 1-11 start and were 5-18 at the end of April. They fired manager Dave Trembley in June and continued to slide under interim manager Juan Samuel before Showalter came aboard and guided Baltimore to 34 wins in its final 57 games.
RF Betts leaves with bruised left foot; X-rays negative
BOSTON (AP) — Red Sox right fielder Mookie Betts has left Saturday's game against Baltimore with a bruised left foot a couple of innings after he collided with Orioles catcher Chance Sisco on a close play.
The team announced that X-rays were negative and he's day to day.
Betts came around to score on Andrew Benintendi's first-inning double off the Green Monster, sliding hard into the plate and banging left legs with Sisco's shin guard as he reached across the plate to grab a relay throw.
BALTIMORE Brian Dozier thought about approaching Chance Sisco at second base during a ninth-inning timeout Sunday but decided against it.
I couldve said something, but they have tremendous veteran leadership over there, with Chris Davis, Adam Jones and those guys, the Twins de facto spokesman said. Im sure theyll address it and move forward.
Hardy’s crowd-pleasing HR lifts Orioles past Rays 9-4
BALTIMORE (AP) — If this was indeed J.J. Hardy's final game at Camden Yards with the Orioles, he couldn't have asked for a better scenario.
Hardy enjoyed an unforgettable afternoon during an otherwise dreary season, hitting a crowd-pleasing home run and scoring twice to help Baltimore beat the Tampa Bay Rays 9-4 on Sunday.
Rookie Chance Sisco also homered for the Orioles, who earned a split of the four-game series to finish their home schedule with a 46-35 record.
