China authorities investigating 2 explosions in northeast
BEIJING (AP) — Chinese authorities were investigating two explosions Friday in a basement car park and a 30th floor apartment in the country's northeast that left one person dead and one injured.
Police in the city of Changchun said in a microblog message that the blasts in the Wanda complex were being investigated as criminal acts.
Few details were given other than that the apartment explosion occurred at 3:16 p.m.
Calls to the building's management office rang unanswered Friday evening.
Chinese vaccine maker fined $1.3 billion after scandal
BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese maker of rabies vaccine was fined 9.1 billion yuan ($1.3 billion) on Tuesday for falsifying production records in a scandal that prompted a nationwide crackdown on the industry.
Disclosure of the case, and the failure of authorities to act immediately after finding inconsistencies in the company's records in late 2017, triggered a public outcry following deaths and injuries due to fake or shoddy medicines, milk, toys and other products.

BEIJING (AP) — A Chinese provincial deputy governor and the mayor of a major city were fired Thursday as the ruling Communist Party tried to defuse public outrage over revelations of misconduct by a major vaccine producer.
The officials were among four people ordered dismissed following a meeting of the party's ruling Standing Committee led by President Xi Jinping. It ordered a criminal investigation of a fifth official, a former national drug regulator.
BEIJING (AP) — Investigators in China have begun recalling defective vaccines produced by a Chinese drugmaker from domestic and overseas markets, health authorities said.
Investigators found Changchun Changsheng Life Sciences Ltd. had blended expired fluids in its vaccines and falsified records from as early as April 2014, the National Health Commission said in a statement Tuesday.

BEIJING (AP) — Chinese state media say a total of 15 people have been detained in a growing scandal over the faking of records by a rabies vaccine maker.
Those detained include the CEO of Changchun Changsheng Life Sciences Ltd., which has been accused of fabricating production and inspection records following a surprise visit to company offices by inspectors last week.
The other 14 were also executives at the company, state broadcaster CCTV said on Wednesday.
