New Jersey’s 4 new Democrats split in House speaker vote
TRENTON, N.J. (AP) — Two of New Jersey's new Democratic House members voted for Nancy Pelosi to be the next speaker, but two others did not.
Democrats Andy Kim of the 3rd District and Tom Malinowski of the 7th District voted in favor of the California Democrat on Thursday.
Kim's vote for Pelosi comes after he earlier said he supported new leadership for the party. He ousted Republican Tom MacArthur in the southern New Jersey district.
New Rep. Golden of Maine votes against Pelosi for speaker
PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — U.S. Rep. Jared Golden of Maine is among 15 Democrats who voted against returning Nancy Pelosi to the House speaker's office.
A spokesman says Golden kept his campaign vow that he would not support Pelosi for speaker. Instead he voted for Rep. Cheri Bustos of Illinois for the leadership position.

The post office in Fairview will be formally renamed the Sergeant Douglas J. Riney Post Office during an Aug. 10 ceremony.
PEKIN, Ill. (AP) — A central Illinois post office will be renamed in honor of a local Marine who was killed in Afghanistan in 2011.
The post office in Pekin will become the Lance Corporal Jordan S. Bastean Post Office.
Bastean was born and raised in Pekin and was a 2010 graduate of Pekin Community College. He told his father he wanted to join the Marines because "they were the toughest."
Officials: Illinois prison to open next year
THOMSON, Ill. (AP) — A prison in northwestern Illinois will be completely activated by the end of next year, a Bureau of Prisons official said.
The Thomson Administrative U.S. Penitentiary could have up to 600 employees, Sauk Valley Media reported . The government originally had projected that the facility could employ up to 1,100 people.

House OKs renaming post office for man killed in Afghanistan
FAIRVIEW, Ill. (AP) — Lawmakers in the U.S. House have approved a measure to name a western Illinois post office in honor of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos sponsored the legislation to rename the facility in Fairview the Sergeant Douglas J. Riney Post Office.
Riney graduated from Spoon River Valley High School and volunteered with the Fairview Fire Protection Unit before he joined the Army in 2012. The husband and father of two died in Kabul in 2016.
MOLINE – U.S. Rep. Cheri Bustos, D-Moline, is accepting applications through Friday from District 17 high school seniors looking to be admitted to U.S. armed services academies in the fall.
Bustos can nominate up to 10 qualified students for attendance at the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, New York; the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland; the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado; and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, New York.
