DENVER (AP) — Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Clay Buchholz was scratched from Thursday's start because of tightness in his right arm.
Matt Koch started in his place.
Buchholz, who signed a minor league deal with Arizona on May 4, is 7-2 with a 2.01 ERA. He is 5-1 with a 1.66 ERA in nine starts since returning from the disabled list on July 24.
A look at what's happening around the majors today:
PHOENIX (AP) — The young Clay Buchholz used the scouting report merely as a suggestion.
He glanced at it, made a couple of mental notes, but basically threw whatever pitch was working or felt right in the situation. His stuff was that good.
The veteran Clay Buchholz relies on the scouting report much more. His stuff not quite as electric, the right-hander has to use his mind and his arm to get hitters out.
PHOENIX (AP) — The Arizona Diamondbacks have been baseball's best first-inning team and they added to those numbers with Paul Goldschmidt's two-run homer Wednesday night.
The way Clay Buchholz has been pitching, it was more than enough.
Goldschmidt homered to set the all-time mark at Chase Field, Buchholz pitched seven scoreless innings and the Diamondbacks earned a 5-1 victory over the Los Angeles Angels.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — For a player who was without a job in April, Clay Buchholz is performing like a mainstay.
Buchholz pitched a five-hitter, David Peralta hit a three-run homer and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 5-1 on Thursday night in the opener of a four-game series.
CINCINNATI (AP) — Anthony DeSclafani was a baseball triple-threat against Arizona on Friday night.
DeSclafani struck out a season-high nine to outduel Clay Buchholz and singled before scoring one of Cincinnati's two runs on Billy Hamilton's suicide-squeeze bunt to help the Reds beat the Diamondbacks 3-0.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — Three home runs, two video reviews that went their way and some nice defense helped the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the San Diego Padres 5-4 Sunday for a three-game sweep.
Paul Goldschmidt and Nick Ahmed each hit a two-run homer and A.J. Pollock also connected for the Diamondbacks, who bounced back nicely after a disappointing loss Thursday at the Chicago Cubs in which they blew a five-run lead.
CHICAGO (AP) — Clay Buchholz took another step in mounting a career comeback.
Buchholz pitched effectively into the seventh inning in his return from the disabled list, Steven Souza Jr. had three hits and an RBI and the Arizona Diamondbacks beat the Chicago Cubs 5-1 on Tuesday night for their third straight win.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Everything was going Clay Buchholz's way. Then, a swing-and-miss led to an injury that turned what could have been a gem into a routine solid outing.
Buchholz lasted five innings before experiencing tightness in his left side, but the Arizona Diamondbacks completed a four-game sweep of the Pittsburgh Pirates with a 3-0 win Sunday.
BOSTON (AP) — Pitcher Clay Buchholz was released from a minor league contract by the Kansas City Royals on Tuesday, the day he had the right to terminate the deal and become a free agent.
The 33-year-old right-hander signed with the Royals in March as he attempted to return from right forearm surgery that caused him to miss most of last season.
SURPRISE, Ariz. (AP) — Right-hander Clay Buchholz is the Kansas City Royals' latest reclamation pitching project.
The two-time All-Star and the Royals have finalized a minor league contract on Tuesday, and he would get a $1.5 million, one-year deal if added to the 40-man roster. The 32-year-old could earn $250,000 in performance bonuses: $25,000 per start from 10-19.
Ryan Madson and Joe Blanton are among the pitchers who revived their careers with the Royals.
NEW YORK (AP) — Phillies right-hander Clay Buchholz had surgery to repair a torn flexor tendon in his right forearm Tuesday, and could miss the rest of the season.
The 32-year-old was placed on the 10-day disabled list retroactive to April 15 prior to the club's series opener against the New York Mets. The surgery was performed by Dr. James Andrews, and Buchholz now faces an estimated recovery time of four to six months.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies right-hander Clay Buchholz has a partial tear of the right flexor pronator mass and will seek a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews next week.
An MRI on Wednesday revealed the injury. The flexor pronator mass is the collection of muscles on the anterior of the forearm used for wrist and finger flexion as well as pronation. Buchholz allowed six runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings against the New York Mets before the injury forced him to leave the game.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — Phillies right-hander Clay Buchholz left Tuesday night's start after injuring his pitching arm in the third inning.
Buchholz allowed six runs and eight hits in 2 1/3 innings against the New York Mets before he strained his right forearm on a pitch to Travis d'Arnaud. Adam Morgan replaced him with a 3-2 count on the batter.
Buchholz has struggled in his first two starts since joining the Phillies from Boston, posting a 12.27 ERA.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — Clay Buchholz threw a no-hitter in his second career start, went to two All-Star games and pitched for a World Series champion.
Now, he's starting over with the rebuilding Philadelphia Phillies.
Buchholz allowed two homers and four runs in three innings against the Detroit Tigers on Sunday, but the 32-year-old right-hander has been around long enough not to worry about spring stats.
CLEARWATER, Fla. (AP) — After spending the last 11½ years in the Boston Red Sox organization, right-handed pitcher Clay Buchholz is adjusting to a new big league environment for the first time in his career following his trade to the Philadelphia Phillies two months ago.
A team-by-team look at the American League East entering spring training, including key players each club acquired and lost, and dates of the first workout for pitchers and catchers, and the full squad:

BOSTON (AP) — The Red Sox kept adding starting pitchers, and Clay Buchholz kept getting bumped further down in the rotation.
There was David Price last offseason and Drew Pomeranz mid-year. By the time Chris Sale was acquired from the Chicago White Sox at the winter meetings this month, Boston had seven starters to choose from — most of them more consistent than Buchholz, and a few of them on better deals.
BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Red Sox have exercised their 2017 option on designated hitter David Ortiz "as a formality," even though he has said he will retire.
The team also exercised its option on right-hander Clay Buchholz and declined the option on catcher Ryan Hanigan.
Ortiz spent the last season on a farewell tour after announcing that he would retire at the age of 40. But the team picked up the $17.2 million option to retain his rights in case he changes his mind.
