China plans major cut in number of Everest climbers
BEIJING (AP) — China will cut the number of climbers attempting to scale Mount Everest from the north by one-third this year as part of plans for a major cleanup on the world's highest peak, state media reported Monday.
The total number of climbers seeking to summit the world's highest peak at 8,850 meters (29,035 feet) from the north will be limited to less than 300 and the climbing season restricted to spring, the reports said.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — A quirky museum in downtown St. Louis that features a fish tank, climbing equipment, a slide and other interactive activities, has been sold to a theme park company.
Oklahoma City-based Premier Parks LLC has purchased and now operates City Museum from American Milling, a business based in suburban St. Louis. Terms were not disclosed but the 100 or so employees of City Museum will retain their jobs.

TERREBONNE, Ore. (AP) — A 21-year-old rock climber from Virginia fell 150 feet while climbing at Smith Rock State Park without using a rope or other safety equipment.
Benjamin Schulman was taken by helicopter to St. Charles Hospital in Bend with life-threatening injuries after the fall late Sunday afternoon.
Authorities say Schulman, of Alexandria, Virginia, was attempting to climb a section not usually used or identified as a climbing route when he fell.

PLYMOUTH, N.H. (AP) — Robin Agricola lives in Massachusetts but spends nearly every weekend scaling the craggy cliffs found in central New Hampshire. Her life today is a far cry from what it was five years ago, when heroin addiction was ruling over her.
"I was one of those addicts that looked like I had it all together from the outside, but inside my life was crumbling," she said. She found a 12-step program that helped her to get sober, it was climbing, she said, that has helped her stay sober.

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (AP) — A world-renowned speed climber was rescued from Yosemite National Park's El Capitan by helicopter Friday after spending a chilly night on top of the famous rock when he fell and injured both legs.
Rescuers reached Hans Florine and his climbing companions by helicopter Friday morning because it was too late and too dark to do so Thursday evening, Yosemite spokesman Scott Gediman said.
