Allen makes 32 saves, Blues top Avs 3-0 for 9th straight win
DENVER (AP) — Jake Allen has been mostly a spectator during St. Louis' winning streak. He joined the party Saturday.
Allen made 32 saves in just his second start in a month, Vladimir Tarasenko and Zach Sanford scored 57 seconds apart in the third period and the Blues beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Saturday for their ninth straight victory.
The winning streak is the Blues' longest since also winning nine in a row from Oct. 15-Nov. 5, 2002.
Marchand’s OT goal lifts Bruins over Avalanche 2-1
BOSTON (AP) — Brad Marchand has a knack for the net in overtime. A lucky bounce helped him get another winner for the Bruins on Sunday.
Marchand scored 4:03 into the extra period after his shot deflected off an opponent's skate, extending Boston's points streak to seven games with a 2-1 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The 48 seconds in overtime remaining on the clock in the visiting dressing room served as a reminder of how close the Colorado Avalanche got.
But close isn't much consolation after a 4-3 loss to the Washington Capitals on Thursday night extended their skid to five games. And neither was the point the Avalanche salvaged because the defeats keep piling up as their season snowballs out of control.
Blue Jackets snap 5-game skid with 6-3 win over Avalanche
DENVER (AP) — Josh Anderson kept his toe on the blue line and then his fingers crossed.
The goal he scored, ruled good on the ice, was upheld after a replay review for offside. Just the sort of break Columbus needed.
Anderson broke a tie with 9:31 remaining, Sergei Bobrovsky stopped 27 shots and the Blue Jackets snapped a five-game skid by beating the Colorado Avalanche 6-3 on Tuesday night.
"I don't know if it was offside or not," Anderson said. "I guess we got lucky there at the end."
Roussel, Virtanen lead Canucks to 5-1 win over Avalanche
DENVER (AP) — The Vancouver Canucks were refreshed after a nine-day break. The Colorado Avalanche looked like the same team that stumbled into its hiatus.

Staal had two goals, including the tiebreaker on a second-period power play, Devan Dubnyk made 20 saves and the Wild rolled into the All-Star break by beating the slumping Colorado Avalanche 5-2 on Wednesday night.
"You certainly wish you could keep playing if they're going to play like that," Wild coach Bruce Boudreau said. "It was really fun to watch."

DENVER (AP) — The success on the ice quickly returned and so will Mikko Rantanen.
Another score — along with a big exhale — for the struggling Colorado Avalanche.
Rantanen scored two of Colorado's franchise record-tying six second-period goals, Semyon Varlamov stopped 30 shots and the Avalanche routed the Los Angeles Kings 7-1 on Saturday.
Rantanen was sidelined in the third period with a lower-body injury. He's among the NHL's scoring leaders with 73 points.
Duchene scores twice vs former team, lifts Sens over Avs 5-2
OTTAWA, Ontario (AP) — Matt Duchene's first game as a father couldn't have gone much better.
He even got to celebrate among old friends.
Duchene had two goals and an assist against his former club, and the Ottawa Senators beat the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 on Wednesday night.

TORONTO (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche caught the Toronto Maple Leafs in a lull and took full advantage.
Carl Soderberg had his first career hat trick and the Avalanche defeated the Maple Leafs 6-3 on Monday night.
Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and Matt Calvert also scored for Colorado, which had lost nine of its last 10 games overall (1-7-2), and seven straight in regulation on the road.
Semyon Varlamov stopped 17 shots for the Avalanche.
Price stops 28 shots, Canadiens beat Avalanche 3-0
MONTREAL (AP) — The Montreal Canadiens needed a full-team effort to shut down the NHL's best offensive line.
Carey Price stopped 28 shots for his third shutout of the season as the Canadiens beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-0 on Saturday night.
Brett Kulak, Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jordie Benn all scored in the third period for the Canadiens, who had lost three of their last four games. Price got his 43rd career shutout.
Avalanche coach, star center appear to make peace
MONTREAL (AP) — Colorado Avalanche star center Nathan MacKinnon and coach Jared Bednar appear to have made peace.
The two are playing down a dispute caught on camera on the bench Wednesday night in Calgary. They spoke Friday, a day before Colorado plays the Montreal Canadiens.
MacKinnon seemed to be mouthing "Do your job" to Bednar toward the end of the Avalanche's 5-3 loss to the Flames, Colorado's eighth defeat in nine games.
Wheeler, Scheifele help Jets beat Avalanche 7-4
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — All that Winnipeg firepower was on full display Tuesday night.
Blake Wheeler had a goal and three assists as the Jets scored on 33 percent of their shots in a 7-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche.
Mathieu Perreault, Kyle Connor, Bryan Little, Andrew Copp, Mark Scheifele and Jacob Trouba also scored for Winnipeg, which converted three of four power-play opportunities. Trouba, Scheifele and Tyler Myers each had two assists.
Avalanche break 6-game skid with 6-1 win over Rangers
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche had New York boxed in from the start.
All game, really, with Colorado going on 10 power plays to keep the Rangers on the defensive throughout.
Nathan MacKinnon and Mikko Rantanen set the early tone with power-play goals in the first period, helping the Avalanche end a six-game slide with a 6-1 win over the Rangers on Friday night.
Colorado finished with its most power-play opportunities since Oct. 16, 2008, when the team had 11 against Philadelphia.
Colorado Avalanche to host outdoor game in 2020
DENVER (AP) — The Colorado Avalanche will host an outdoor game at the U.S. Air Force Academy in 2020.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman announced the game on Tuesday. The Avalanche's opponent for the Feb. 15, 2020, game at Falcons Stadium in Colorado Springs will be announced later.
It will be the second outdoor NHL game played in Colorado. The Avalanche hosted the Detroit Red Wings at Denver's Coors Field on Feb. 27, 2016.
Kane scores 2nd of game in OT to lift Blackhawks over Avs
DENVER (AP) — A resurgent power play figured prominently in the Chicago Blackhawks' latest win.
Patrick Kane scored his second goal of the game 41 seconds into overtime and the Blackhawks beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-2 on Saturday night.
The Blackhawks were on a power play when Kane knocked in the decisive shot from the slot off a feed from Jonathan Toews for Chicago's fifth victory in six games. Two have come at the expense of the Avalanche, who lost their fourth straight.
Pirri’s goal in 3rd lifts Golden Knights over Avalanche, 2-1
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Brandon Pirri has played in only six games for the Vegas Golden Knights, four this season.
And all he does is score.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Brad Richardson and the Arizona Coyotes were tasked with trying to limit the productivity of the Colorado Avalanche's high-scoring top line.
They did just enough Saturday night, and Richardson provided the offense the Coyotes needed down the stretch, scoring twice in the final 3:39 in a 6-4 win over Colorado.

ST. LOUIS (AP) — After the St. Louis Blues caught the short end of the stick on an obscure NHL rule, Ryan O'Reilly bailed them out with a breakaway winner.
O'Reilly scored a short-handed goal 2:05 into overtime to lift St. Louis over the Colorado Avalanche 4-3 on Friday night.
O'Reilly's forehand finish was memorable, but the buzz postgame was about the call that put the Blues on the penalty kill to begin with.
Nugent-Hopkins scores twice to help Oilers beat Avs 6-4
DENVER (AP) — The Edmonton Oilers broke the ice with a four-goal second period. As for the shattered glass in the penalty box, it wasn't their fault.
Ryan Nugent-Hopkins scored twice in the decisive second period, Mikko Koskinen stopped 39 shots and the Oilers extended their winning streak to four games with a 6-4 victory over the Colorado Avalanche on Tuesday night.

Avs overcome Crosby’s natural hat trick, beat Penguins 6-3
DENVER (AP) — Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon put on a show that made Cole Harbour proud, and it was MacKinnon who walked away with bragging rights for the Nova Scotia town.
MacKinnon had a goal and three assists, including one on Gabe Landeskog's tiebreaking score midway through the third period, and the surging Colorado Avalanche overcame Crosby's natural hat trick to beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 6-3 on Wednesday night.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nathan MacKinnon and the Colorado Avalanche power play have found another gear during the past week.
The Avalanche scored three goals with the man advantage for the second time in four games and dominated the Los Angeles Kings 7-3 on Wednesday night.
"One of those things that when the power play works, when it's clicking like that, it feels good and obviously can win you games, which it did tonight," said Gabriel Landeskog, who was one of nine players who got an assist.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A few ticks left on the clock were all Mikko Rantanen needed to make a winner of the Colorado Avalanche.
Rantanen's power-play slap shot with 1.3 seconds remaining in overtime gave the Avalanche a 4-3 victory Sunday over the slumping Anaheim Ducks.
Colorado overcame a 3-1 deficit to hand the Ducks their 12th loss in 15 games. Rantanen added two assists to his eighth goal of the season, increasing his NHL-leading total to 32 points.
Backstrom’s OT goal lifts Capitals past Avalanche 3-2
DENVER (AP) — When they were teammates, Nicklas Backstrom always had a tough time against Philipp Grubauer in practice.
The Washington Capitals veteran had better luck when they met as opponents Friday night.
Backstrom was left uncovered on a 4-on-3 power play and scored 22 seconds into overtime to lift the Capitals over the Colorado Avalanche 3-2.
MacKinnon, Rantanen help Avs rally for 6-3 win over Bruins
DENVER (AP) — Mikko Rantanen got an assist for setting up the go-ahead goal. Nathan MacKinnon wanted to give him something more — full credit.

MacKinnon scored the tiebreaking goal with 10:58 remaining on a nifty pass from Rantanen, and the Colorado Avalanche rallied past the Boston Bruins 6-3 on Wednesday night in a showdown between two of the top scoring lines in the league.
