Titans have safety Kenny Vaccaro available vs. Redskins
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans have starting safety Kenny Vaccaro available against the Washington Redskins after he worked his way through the concussion protocol.

Josh Johnson is switching leagues, not teams
Josh Johnson is accustomed to moving around the NFL. On Wednesday, he moved from one league to another.
Johnson was the first player protected last week in a quarterbacks-only draft held by the Alliance of American Football, which will begin play the weekend after the Super Bowl in February. His rights in the eight-team spring league were owned by the San Diego Fleet.
Redskins QB McCoy breaks fibula in right leg, out for season
PHILADELPHIA (AP) — The Washington Redskins are accustomed to the knot in the stomach and the bad news that inevitably hits when a quarterback goes down: Colt McCoy is done for the year with a broken right leg, the same fate as his predecessor, Alex Smith.
Mark Sanchez now has his shot to morph from stay-at-home dad to stretch-drive starter.
"Your heart definitely breaks for them," Sanchez said. "They're great competitors and great people. You never want it under those circumstances."

Steelers look to extend surge vs. road-weary Browns
PITTSBURGH (AP) — The faces change, sometimes at a dizzying rate. The results when the Cleveland Browns visit the Pittsburgh Steelers do not.
Each fall the Browns make their way to Heinz Field, typically with a new quarterback and frequently with a new head coach in tow.
And each trip ends in similar fashion: with a quiet bus ride back home after another stinging defeat in a rivalry that hasn't felt like much of one for more than two decades.
Jets and Redskins a study in contrasts at quarterback
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Unsure of Kirk Cousins' future, the Washington Redskins scoped out the quarterback market and saw a lot of unknowns.
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Washington Redskins have signed backup quarterback Colt McCoy to an extension that keeps him under contract through the 2019 season.

Redskins acquire QB Kevin Hogan from Browns
The Washington Redskins traded a sixth-round round pick Friday to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for quarterback Kevin Hogan and a sixth-round pick.
In Hogan, the Redskins add a developmental quarterback to pair with veterans Alex Smith and Colt McCoy. Hogan, a 2016 fifth-round pick, started one game with the Browns last season. He has 621 career yards with four touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Watching this one, you’d never get the idea that the Big 12 was the Wide Open Offense Conference.
The Bears and Longhorns possessed all the explosive pop of a sparkler. It was almost as though the teams had combined for only three wins entering the encounter.
Redskins’ Vernon Davis going strong and long downfield at 33
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Jay Gruden will have what Vernon Davis is having.
Marveling at the physical condition of the 33-year-old tight end, the Washington Redskins coach asked Davis what he had for lunch and came away saying, "We should all get on the Vernon Davis diet." Davis is careful about what he eats, trains his body and his mind and is on pace for one of his best seasons in his 12th year in the NFL.
Redskins cut Nate Sudfeld, go with 2 quarterbacks
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Even with uncertainty about the future of Kirk Cousins, the Washington Redskins cut Nate Sudfeld to go with just two quarterbacks on their initial 53-man roster.
Sudfeld, a developmental prospect after being a sixth-round pick out of Indiana in 2016, was among the team's most notable cuts made Saturday before the deadline. Cousins is playing a second consecutive season on the franchise tag and could cost $34 million if retained under the same terms in 2018.
McCoy says he’s ready if Redskins call, this year or next
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The most important member of the Washington Redskins offense could easily become backup quarterback Colt McCoy.
Yes, there has been a lot of well-deserved talk about the critical roles of quarterback-turned-wide receiver Terrelle Pryor Sr. and slot man Jamison Crowder. But McCoy, in his eighth season, is one play away from having the Redskins' fortunes in his hands.
Redskins positional previews: Offense
Don’t expect any fireworks at the key position during this year’s camp. Kirk Cousins is firmly entrenched as the No. 1 quarterback, and as such will receive the bulk of the snaps with the first-team offense during drills.
Likewise, Colt McCoy is fully trusted by the coaching staff as the No. 2, and his experience in the system means he won’t need extra reps just to get up to speed — coach Jay Gruden feels McCoy can enter a game and run the entire playbook to success.
Big 12 lacking the star power of recent years
NORMAN, Okla. (AP) — In 2008, the Big 12 had unmatched star power.
Four of the top five finishers in the Heisman race hailed from the conference, including the winner, Oklahoma's Sam Bradford. Texas' Colt McCoy was second, Texas Tech's Graham Harrell was fourth and his teammate, Michael Crabtree, was fifth. Since then, the league has consistently produced top contenders for the award, with Baylor's Robert Griffin III winning in 2011.
Redskins’ Cavanaugh is an accomplished quarterback whisperer
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — When the Washington Redskins navigated the difficult process of replacing Robert Griffin III with Kirk Cousins as their starting quarterback a year ago, Matt Cavanaugh was the man in the middle of it.
Griffin, Cousins and veteran Colt McCoy all wanted to start. Only one could, so Cavanaugh had heart-to-heart conversations about the situation.
Cousins resting means McCoy, Sudfeld get valuable experience
LANDOVER, Md. (AP) — Coach Jay Gruden decided Friday to give Kirk Cousins the night off and start Colt McCoy at quarterback in the Washington Redskins' preseason game against the New York Jets.
He waited to tell McCoy until the very last minute.
"I was walking out of the tunnel," McCoy said. "For me, that's the best-case scenario in my role. I've got to be counted on at any point. I thought I handled it all right."
Training camp observations: Redskins defense dominates two-minute drill
RICHMOND The Washington Redskins concluded practice on Saturday like they normally do with a two-minute drill and after two plays the session was almost over.
Redskins’ McCoy accepting of his role as No. 2 quarterback
RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — Colt McCoy doesn't believe the adage that the backup quarterback is always a team's most popular player.
"I think Kirk is pretty popular right now, but it's where I am," the Washington Redskins' second-stringer said, talking of the team's franchise player, second-year starter Kirk Cousins.
McCoy, though, has plenty of fans. Every day after practice, he heads for the sidelines at the team's training camp and spends up to a half hour signing...
