HOUSTON (AP) — Deon Lyle knocked down eight 3-pointers and put up a season-high 33 points as UTSA crushed Rice, 79-60 on Saturday to close out the Conference USA regular season and prepare for the conference tournament.
With a fifth-place finish, the Roadrunners face the No. 12 seed, Texas-El Paso, in a first-round game Wednesday in Frisco, Texas. Rice (7-24, 4-14) will miss the conference tournament.
UTSA (18-13, 11-7) rolled to an 18-point lead by intermission and cruised to the win.
Rice tops UTEP 76-70 behind Hunter’s 24
HOUSTON (AP) — Najja Hunter scored 24 points, Ako Adams added 15, and Rice beat UTEP 76-70 on Thursday night to keep its hopes alive for a Conference USA Tournament berth.
Connor Cashaw grabbed 12 rebounds for the Owls (7-23, 4-14), who entered two games back of 12th-ranked UTEP (10-18, 5-11) and face fifth-ranked UTSA (17-13, 10-7) on Saturday.
Adams’ buzzer-beating trey gives Rice 79-76 OT win over FAU
BOCA RATON, Fla. (AP) — Ako Adams hit a 3-pointer at the overtime buzzer to give Rice a 79-76 victory over Florida Atlantic in a Conference USA battle Thursday night.
The victory is revenge for the Owls, who saw Justin Massey hit a buzzer-beater in Houston for a 63-62 FAU win earlier this season. The win is Rice's third straight in Boca Raton and snaps a six-game losing string.
Gerdarius Troutman drilled a 3 with :03 left to get Florida Atlantic even at 66-66 and force overtime.
Western Kentucky dominates Rice in 85-66 win
HOUSTON (AP) — Darius Thompson scored 18 points and dished out 10 assists, Justin Johnson also got a double-double and Western Kentucky dominated Rice in an 85-66 win Saturday night.
Thompson had four 3-pointers and finished 6 of 8 from the field, while Johnson added 16 points to go with 13 rebounds. Dwight Coleby and Josh Anderson added 12 points apiece and Lamonte Bearden had 11 for Western Kentucky, which shot 56 percent from the field, including 10 for 18 from long range.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Chris Cokley had 15 points and nine rebounds and UAB rallied from nine down with less than four minutes to go for a 61-56 win on Saturday night.

Connor Cashaw hit a jumper with three seconds left for a 62-60 Rice lead, and after Florida Atlantic (10-11, 4-5 Conference USA) called timeout, Payton Hulsey dished to Massey for the shot. Massey missed all seven of his 3-point attempts in Thursday's loss to North Texas.

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — Trey Wade scored a career-high 16 points and UTEP pulled away midway through the second half to beat cold-shooting Rice 80-62 on Saturday night.
Connor Cashaw's 3-pointer gave Rice a 39-34 lead with 17:32 left. Wade scored 10 points and Isiah Osborne added six during a 27-9 run, and the Miners led 61-48 with 6:37 remaining and cruised from there.
Jackson’s 20 sparks UTSA past Rice, 79-66 in C-USA opener
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Jhivvan Jackson had his second straight 20-point scoring game to spark Texas-San Antonio to a 79-66 win over Rice in the Conference USA opener on Thursday night.

HOUSTON (AP) — Nijal Pearson pumped in 18 points and Immanuel King added 15 points and grabbed 11 rebounds as Texas State closed out its nonconference schedule by handing Rice its third straight defeat, beating the Owls 74-66 on Friday night.

HOUSTON (AP) — Freshman Dedric Boyd sank three free throws with five seconds left to help Eastern Kentucky beat Rice 73-72 on Friday night in a season opener.

HOUSTON (AP) — Egor Koulechov had a perfect day shooting, scoring 20 points to lead Rice to a 93-64 win over Division II St. Edward's on Thursday.

Koulechov, Rice beat Delaware State in Hardwood Showcase
HOUSTON (AP) — Egor Koulechov had 15 points and 13 rebounds for his eighth career double-double and Rice beat Delaware State 80-58 on Wednesday night in the Hardwood Showcase.
Rice led 39-28 at the half but went cold for the first 10 minutes of the second half. But after the Hornets took a 46-45, Koulechov capped a 12-0 run for a 58-46 lead with 6:12 left.
The Owls outscored Delaware State 35-12 in the final 10 minutes.
