NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Houston coach Kelvin Sampson was upset at halftime. He felt a lot better when it was over.
Corey Davis Jr. made eight 3-pointers and scored 26 points to help the ninth-ranked Cougars beat Tulane 85-50 on Sunday for their 10th consecutive victory.
Houston led by 17 on two occasions in the first half, but lowly Tulane closed to 37-28 at halftime. Sampson felt his team did too much performing and not enough competing in the first half.

ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — Corey Davis Jr. and the No. 12 Houston Cougars dominated at both ends of the court — again.
Davis scored 26 points on 8-for-13 shooting and Houston had another strong defensive effort to beat UCF 77-68 on Thursday night.
"If you just take a white picket fence and put it around the paint, that's how our defense is," Cougars coach Kelvin Sampson said. "They made some difficult shots tonight, but we didn't give up any easy shots."

Brooks and Davis combined to hit nine 3-pointers while the Cougars (19-1, 6-1 American Athletic Conference) finished 16 of 24 from behind the arc.

DALLAS (AP) — Houston coach Kelvin Sampson has been pushing Corey Davis Jr. to be more aggressive and look for more shots.
"He's almost too unselfish," said Sampson, though the senior guard seems to be getting the message from a coach who got his 600th career victory Wednesday night.
Davis scored 15 of his 20 points after halftime, when he made his first seven shots, and No. 21 Houston led throughout in a 69-58 win at SMU. It was Davis' second 20-point game in a row.

It was Houston's final home game at Texas Southern's H&PE Arena before opening the new Fertitta Center on Saturday with a sold-out game against No. 18 Oregon.
