Charleston Southern beats Presbyterian in Big South tourney
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Ty Jones scored 17 points on 8-of-9 shooting and Charleston Southern opened the Big South Tournament with a 68-51 victory over Presbyterian on Tuesday night.
Jones scored 10 of Charleston Southern's 25 first-half points as the Buccaneers built a nine-point lead. The Blue Hose shot 32 percent and turned it over 11 times in the half.
Phlandrous Fleming Jr.'s third 3-pointer of the game extended Charleston Southern's lead to 60-40 with four minutes left.
Charleston Southern ends Winthrop’s title hopes, 78-75
ROCK HILL, S.C. (AP) — Phlandrous Fleming Jr. scored 26 points and Christian Keeling 22 as Charleston Southern beat Winthrop 78-75 on Saturday to erase the Eagles' Big South title hopes.
Winthrop (18-11, 12-6) came into the regular-season finale a game back of UNC Asheville, where the Eagles lost on Thursday, but fell behind by 19 points with nine minutes remaining. The Buccaneers made 10 of 12 free throws in the final 41 seconds to hold off the Eagles.
Charleston Southern fends off Campbell 72-68 behind Mitchell
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Cortez Mitchell scored 20 points and Jordan Jones 18 and Charleston Southern held off Campbell for a 72-68 win on Thursday night.
Chris Clemons' layup with 52 seconds left brought Campbell within 67-65 after a 9-2 run. Justin Jones made a layup and Travis McConico made 1 of 2 foul shots and Charleston Southern (12-15, 7-9 Big South) led by five.
Charleston Southern pulls away to win 77-65
FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — Cortez Mitchell scored 17 points and Christian Keeling added 15 to lead Charleston Southern over Longwood 77-65 on Thursday night.
Travis McConico added 14 points and Jordan Jones 10 for the Buccaneers (12-14, 7-8 Big South), who swept the season series from the Lancers (6-22, 3-12). Charleston Southern was only 3 of 12 from the arc but outscored Longwood 46-28 in the paint even though outrebounded 40-39.
Charleston Southern uses 7-0 surge, beats Presbyterian 64-54
CLINTON, S.C. (AP) — Christian Keeling scored 20 points and Charleston Southern closed on a 7-0 surge to beat Presbyterian 64-54 on Saturday.
Charleston (11-14, 6-8 Big South Conference) has won four of its last five games while Presbyterian (10-17, 3-11) has lost four of its last five.
Keeling made three 3-pointers and was 6 of 16 from the floor. Javis Howard didn't miss a shot for the Buccaneers, making two field goals and six free throws for 10 points.
Mitchell with 24, Charleston Southern downs Liberty 87-75
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Cortez Mitchell scored 24 points and Charleston Southern downed Liberty 87-75 on Wednesday night.
Travis McConico added 23 points with five rebounds for the Buccaneers (10-14, 5-8 Big South) who shot 61 percent from the field compared to 53 percent for Liberty. Christian Keeling scored 10 points.
Zeck’s putback gives Gardner-Webb 63-61 victory
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — Patrick Zeck's putback with 11.4 seconds left lifted Gardner-Webb to a 63-61 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday.
David Efianayi missed a short jumper but Zeck was there for the follow from the center of the paint.
Charleston Southern's Christian Keeling hit a 3-pointer with 48 seconds left then Cortez Mitchell made a steal under the Buccaneers basket and laid the ball in for a 61-all tie after trailing by 14 in the second half.
Keeling leads Charleston Southern to OT win over Radford
RADFORD, Va. (AP) — Christian Keeling poured in 31 points, including nine of Charleston Southern's 10 points in overtime, to help the Buccaneers knock off Big South Conference front-running Radford 84-81 on Saturday.
Proctor leads High Point past Charleston Southern, 80-59
HIGH POINT, N.C. (AP) — Jahaad Proctor got 19 of his career-high 29 points in the first half and High Point cruised to an 80-59 win over Charleston Southern on Saturday night.
Andre Fox added 20 points and Brandonn Kamga had 12 for High Point, which hit 10 of 18 from long range and shot 51 percent from the field overall. Proctor was 9 for 14 from the field, including five 3-pointers, and missed just one of his seven free throws.
Charleston Southern pounds Longwood 84-43 behind Keeling
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Christian Keeling had 19 points, Phlandrous Fleming Jr. scored 18 and Charleston Southern throttled Longwood 84-43 in a Big South opener on Saturday.
Charleston Southern (6-6) took the lead for good with an 18-2 run early with Travis McConico burying a pair of 3-pointers and one each from Jamaal David and Fleming.

Bucs notch first win of the season; 98-58 over Columbia International
After dropping a pair of road games over the weekend, Charleston Southern’s men’s basketball team opened its home schedule with a convincing 98-58 win over visiting Columbia International University on Wednesday night.
The win marked the 14th consecutive home opener victory for the Buccaneers, while head coach Barclay Radebaugh improved to 13-0 in home openers.
Charleston Southern beats Longwood behind Mitchell, Potter
FARMVILLE, Va. (AP) — Cortez Mitchell scored 22 points and Charleston Southern beat Longwood 86-78 in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday.
The win gives Charleston Southern (11-18, 7-11) three out of its last four as it heads toward next week's Big South Tournament. Both Charleston Southern and Longwood finished in the bottom four in the standings and will therefore play first-round games.
Charleston Southern rebounds from deficit to beat Campbell
NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Christian Keeling scored 22 points and Charleston Southern rebounded from a halftime deficit to beat Campbell 72-69 on Wednesday night.
Keeling hit all seven of his free throws and added a team-best eight rebounds. Javis Howard scored 13 points while Armel Potter, Cortez Mitchell, and Raemond Robinson each chipped in 11 for the Buccaneers (9-17, 5-10 Southern Conference).
Baxter-Bell with 19, Liberty beats Charleston Southern 76-69
LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) — Myo Baxter-Bell scored 19 points as Liberty notched its sixth-straight win, beating Charleston Southern 76-69 on Saturday.
Ryan Kemrite added 16 points for the Flames (17-10, 12-2 Big South). Georgie Pacheco-Ortiz and Lovell Cabbil had 12 points apiece. John Dawson led with 10 rebounds in addition to his eight points.
The team averaged 49 percent shooting from the floor compared to 37.5 percent for Charleston Southern.
Gardner-Webb beats Charleston Southern 85-76
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Laquincy Rideau had 17 points and Gardner-Webb broke away near the midpoint of the first half to beat Charleston Southern 85-76 on Saturday night.
Liam O'Reilly added 15 points for the Bulldogs (12-11, 5-5 Big South), who had a 19-2 run to lead 31-14 with 7:28 left in the first half.
Tyrell Nelson had 13 points and eight rebounds and DJ Laster scored 10. Gardner-Webb had its largest lead at 73-54 with 5:14 left.
Keeling puts in 28 in Charleston Southern’s victory
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Christian Keeling scored 28 points and Charleston Southern defeated Longwood 76-61 on Saturday.
Keeling, a freshman who came in averaging 25.3 in his previous three games, has scored at least 20 five times. Cortez Mitchell scored 12 points as did Javis Howard, who also grabbed 11 rebounds for the Buccaneers (7-12, 3-5 Big South). Saturday's victory snapped a three-game losing streak to Longwood.
Teague, UNC-Asheville beat Charleston Southern 76-67
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — MaCio Teague had 10 of his 18 points in the final six minutes to help UNC-Asheville beat Charleston Southern 76-67 on Saturday night.
The Bulldogs (13-6, 5-1 Big South Conference) took the lead for good at 59-58 on Kevin Vannatta's jumper with 5:55 left, and that sparked a 15-1 run that ended at 72-59 on Ahmad Thomas's layup with a minute to go.
Teague added four free throws in the final 34 seconds and UNC-Asheville held on for its fifth straight win.
Gardner-Webb takes out Charles Southern 79-75
BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. (AP) — David Efianayi scored 21 points on 10-for-16 shooting and Tyrell Nelson added 15 points to lead Gardner-Webb past Charleston Southern 79-75 on Saturday.
Charleston Southern's Armel Potter hit a layup and a jumper to bring the Buccaneers to 74-73 with 2:05 to play. Efianayi then made a layup with 1:17 to go and the Gardner-Webb (8-8, 1-2 Big South) held on.
Kemrite, Liberty beat Charleston Southern 81-70
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Ryan Kemrite scored seven of his 19 points in the final 4:01 to help Liberty hold off Charleston Southern for an 81-70 win on Saturday.
The Flames (7-8, 2-0 Big South) had a 7-0 run to lead 69-56 on Brock Gardner's pair of free throws with 3:52 left. Liberty kept its lead between 11 and 15 from there.
Georgia too much for Charleston Southern
The second of three consecutive pre-Christmas road games took the Charleston Southern men’s basketball team to Athens, Ga., for a game against the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday afternoon.
Georgia led from the opening tip and maintained a comfortable lead throughout, defeating the Buccaneers, 84-64, at the Stegeman Coliseum.
Maten scores 30, Georgia beats Charleston Southern 84-64
ATHENS, Ga. (AP) — Yante Maten scored a season-high 30 points on 11-of-13 shooting, J.J. Frazier added 14 points on Saturday and Georgia defeated Charleston Southern 84-64.
It was the 500th home victory for Georgia in Stegeman Coliseum, which opened for basketball in 1964. The Bulldogs (7-3) have won four of their last five games and are 6-1 at home this season.
Christian Keeling had 19 points and Cortez Mitchell scored 15 points for Charleston Southern (6-4).
VMI downs CSU, 88-83
LEXINGTON, Va. — Two former Big South Conference rivals met for the first time in four years as Charleston Southern visited VMI in non-conference college basketball action on Tuesday night.
Fellow conference members up until 2013-14, the teams often combined for high-scoring affairs. That was again the case on Tuesday as VMI used a 20-4 run in the second-half and held on for an 88-83 win at Cameron Hall.
CSU evens record at 4-4 with easy win over Johnson & Wales, 100-53
With a tough schedule filling out the rest of December, the Charleston Southern men’s basketball team gained a shot of confidence on Saturday night, cruising past visiting Johnson & Wales University of Charlotte, 100-53, at the CSU Field House.

CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Raemond Robinson scored 14 points off the bench and led five players in double figures as Charleston Southern beat Toccoa Falls of the National Christian College Athletic Association 101-54 on Saturday night.
Robinson was 5 of 8 from the field including four 3-pointers for the Buccaneers (3-2). Cortez Mitchell and Patrick Wallace added 11 points apiece and Christian Keeling and Armel Potter had 10 points apiece.
Keeling has 19, Howard 18, Charleston Southern wins 90-53
CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — Christian Keeling scored 19 points and Javis Howard added 18, leading Charleston Southern to a 90-53 win over Columbia International on Tuesday night.
Keeling had a 3-pointer and a layup in the middle of a 19-0 run to give the Buccaneers (1-1) at a 26-7 lead.
It was 39-21 at the half and Keeling opened the second with a jumper followed by two Armel Potter layups to push the lead to 45-21. A 14-0 run soon followed with Cortez Mitchell's tip-in to make it 61-26.
