FINDLAY, Ohio (AP) — Lexa Kessler is making an 88-county dent in her bucket list.
The 24-year-old Hancock County woman knocked off a major task in early September with a trip to the Geauga County Fair. Over the past four summers, she has visited all 88 county fairs in Ohio, as well as the Ohio State Fair.
"I didn't think I'd ever get it done. I thought years from now I'd be like, 'Oh, I should have finished that', so I'm glad I did," she said.
7 riders rescued from stuck Ferris wheel at New Jersey fair
CAMDEN, N.J. (AP) — Authorities say seven riders were rescued from a stuck Ferris wheel at a New Jersey county fair.
Gloucester Township police say they were called to assist the fire department after the malfunction was reported Saturday at the Camden County Fair.
Police say the occupied seats were at various heights, with one at the top "approximately 40 feet (12 meters) off the ground." The Blackwood Fire Company told NJ.com that about six of the riders were children.

Lamb auction raises $23,200 for Oregon girl with tumor
PENDLETON, Ore. (AP) — A lamb named Henry fetched $162 per pound at an Oregon auction where lambs were generally going for $7 a pound.
What made Henry such a prize at the Umatilla County Fair is he was raised by Maddy Thomas, an 11-year-old girl from Echo who was diagnosed with a brain tumor last year. The $23,200 will help her family cover continuing medical-related expenses.
Local fairs building up to Tennessee State Fair in September
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — It's prime time for Tennessee's local fairs, and state agriculture officials say more than 3 million people visit the fairs every year.
The Agriculture Department said fairs last year paid out more than $1 million in premiums for more than 200,000 agricultural exhibits.
The agency says Tennessee's 60 agricultural fairs are run independently, with about 18,000 volunteers statewide.
Billboards oppose Confederate flag sales at fair
WELLINGTON, Ohio (AP) — A coalition opposed to the sale of Confederate flags at a county fair in northeast Ohio has posted billboards objecting to those sales.
Jeanine Donaldson, executive director of the Elyria and Lorain YWCAs, said the Fair-minded Coalition of Lorain County has posted three billboards in Lorain County with funding from the Lorain YWCA, The Chronicle-Telegram in Elyria reported.

Salmonella cases reported at Arapahoe County Fair
DENVER (AP) — Seven cases of salmonella have been identified among people who attended the Arapahoe County Fair and associated events last month.
According to an Arapahoe County news release, the Tri-County Health Department, the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment and Arapahoe County are investigating.
The source of the salmonella has not been identified. The fair was held July 21 to July 29.
State Fair weighs in on Confederate flags at county fairs
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — New York State Fair officials are asking the operators of the state's 52 county fairs to discourage the selling or displaying of items that could offend fairgoers or pose public safety concerns.
Although the state Department of Agriculture and Markets' message doesn't specifically mention Confederate flags, Thursday's letter from Commissioner Richard Ball was sent just days after a group urged county fairs to prohibit sales or displays of the banners.

3 year old girl injured after falling off ride at fair
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A 3-year-old girl was injured when she fell off a ride at the Benton County Fair.
KOIN-TV reports that the Benton County Sheriff's Office said the toddler was alone on a ride that spins in a circle when a lap restraint failed to hold her securely. It happened on Friday night.
The girl fell a short distance and was not seriously hurt.
Minnesota kids train rabbits for agility course
SAUK CENTRE, Minn. (AP) — Some of the bunnies bumbled. Some of rabbits raced. And all of about 25 hopped through an agility course at the Stearns County Fair last month.
Four years ago, the kids who knew the most about rabbits in Stearns County formed its first 4-H rabbit agility project.
Quinn Czeck, 15, was one of those founding members who started, and remains, with the Rabbit Knowledge Bowl team.

New county fairgrounds sees increase in attendance
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — A county fair in southwest Ohio has seen a huge increase in attendance following a location move.
According to the Montgomery County Agricultural Society, 27,000 people attended the Montgomery County Fair this year at the new fairgrounds in Jefferson Township. That's about 13,000 more attendees than last year.
The fairgrounds had spent over 160 years in Dayton before the move.
GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (AP) — A western Colorado fair says it will continue with a scheduled performance featuring live grizzly bears despite protests from animal advocates.
Mesa County Fair Board President Kyle Carstens says all acts are verified and reputable through the fair association.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals or PETA sent a letter to Mesa County Fair organizers earlier this month citing safety and animal welfare concerns on its performance.
Heastie to tour Olana State Historic Site
ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) — The speaker of the New York state Assembly plans to tour the Olana State Historic Site as part of his annual upstate tour.
Bronx Democrat Carl Heastie is scheduled to visit the historic property in Columbia County on Tuesday. The Hudson Valley estate was the home of Frederic Edwin Church, a major 19th century landscape portraitist.
Last week Heastie traveled to the North Country, where he attended a county fair and visited areas impacted by last year's floods.
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Officials of a mid-Missouri county fair decided to drop this year's theme over concerns that it sounded too much like the "Make America Great Again" slogan popularized by President Donald Trump.
The board of the Jefferson City Jaycees Cole County Fair announced Monday the theme — "Making It Great Again" — would be removed from the fair's social media and will be covered on already-printed tickets and flyers.

Unsafe Washington County Fair building closed for good
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A key public event space in Washington County has been closed for good because of safety issues.
The Oregonian/OregonLive reports the problem was discovered last week when an architectural firm performed a routine engineering assessment of the Washington County Fair Complex in Hillsboro. The Main Exhibit Hall and three smaller buildings were deemed unsafe.
