Lynx assistant James Wade hired as Chicago Sky coach
NEW YORK (AP) — James Wade doesn't think Chicago is that far off from making a playoff run.
The longtime WNBA assistant was announced as the Sky's new coach and general manager on Tuesday.
"It's a great roster and great organization," Wade said in a phone interview. "They were looking for someone to take them to the next step. I felt like they brought me in to make the playoffs."

NEW YORK (AP) — Minnesota Lynx assistant James Wade has been hired to coach the Chicago Sky.
A person familiar with the situation confirmed the move on Friday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because no official announcement had been made.
Wade replaces Amber Stocks, who was let go after compiling a 25-43 record in two seasons with Chicago. The Sky didn't make the playoffs either year.
Vandersloot, DeShields help Sky beat Fever 115-106 in 2OT
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Diamond DeShields scored 24 points on 11-of-16 shooting and Courtney Vandersloot had 24 points, nine rebounds and 10 assists to help the Chicago Sky beat the Indiana Fever 115-106 in double overtime Saturday.
Cheyenne Parker added 20 points, and Kahleah Cooper and Allie Quigley scored 12 apiece for the Sky (13-20).
Vandersloot sets a WNBA assist record, Sky beat Lynx 91-88
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Courtney Vandersloot hit two free throws with 2.2 seconds left and broke the WNBA's single-season assists record, helping the Chicago Sky beat the Minnesota Lynx 91-88 on Tuesday night.
Vandersloot set the record on a no-look, one-handed pass in the third quarter that gave her 237 assists, breaking Ticha Penicheiro's mark set in 2000.
Rookie Diamond DeShields scored a season-best 28 points for Chicago (12-20). Vandersloot had 16 points and 10 assists.

Chicago loses 24-point lead, rallies past Dallas 92-91
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Allie Quigley scored 22 points, Cheyenne Parker added 20, and the Chicago Sky blew a 24-point lead before rallying past the Dallas Wings 92-91 on Tuesday night.
Parker was left open inside to pull Chicago to 90-88 and after a Dallas miss, Diamond DeShields made a fast-break layup to tie it with 32.2 seconds to go.
PHOENIX (AP) — Rookie Diamond DeShields tied a season best with 25 points, Courtney Vandersloot had 17 points and 11 assists and the Chicago Sky beat the short-handed Phoenix Mercury 101-87 on Wednesday in the final game before the All-Star break.
Chicago led by 16 points early in the second half but Phoenix went on an 11-2 run to pull to 61-59. Chicago opened the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run, capped by DeShields' offensive rebound and layup, and led by double figures for the final four minutes.
CHICAGO (AP) — Courtney Vandersloot became the seventh player to have a triple-double in WNBA history, finishing with 13 points, 10 rebounds and a career-best 15 assists in the Chicago Sky's 114-99 victory over the Dallas Wings on Friday night.
Vandersloot set a franchise record with 10 first-half assists and tied her team mark of 14 midway through the third quarter. Ticha Penicheiro holds the league record with 16, which she accomplished twice — in 1998 and 2002.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Elena Delle Donne and rookie Ariel Atkins scored 25 points apiece to help the Washington Mystics beat the Chicago Sky 88-72 on Friday night.
It was a season high for Atkins, who hit 4 of 7 from 3-point range and grabbed a career-best seven rebounds. Kristi Toliver scored 13 points and LaToya Sanders added 10 and eight boards for the Mystics (13-8).

Chicago led 36-34 at halftime and held the lead throughout the second half. Indiana got within 58-54 on Erica Wheeler's driving layup with 7:19 left in the fourth quarter, but the Sky went on a 10-2 run and led by double digits the rest of the way.
Stewart scores 29 points, Storm rally past Sky 85-80
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Breanna Stewart scored 29 points, making two free throws with 15.6 seconds left for a three-point lead, and the Seattle Storm beat the Chicago Sky 85-80 on Sunday.
Seattle rallied to take a 79-78 lead with 3:11 left as Jewell Loyd's open 3-pointer from the corner capped a 9-0 run.
After Stewart's makes, Allie Quigley curled around a high screen but her long 3-pointer was off the mark. Seattle's Noelle Quinn sealed it by making two free throws with 11.2 seconds left.
Wings beat Sky for 1st playoff spot since moving to Dallas
ROSEMONT, Illinois (AP) — Skylar Diggins-Smith had 28 points and eight assists and Glory Johnson added 25 points as the Dallas Wings secured a playoff spot with a 99-96 victory over the Chicago Sky.
It's the first playoff appearance for the franchise since moving to Dallas in 2016.
In the other game Wednesday, the Minnesota Lynx ensured a 25-win season for the sixth time in seven years and moved a game ahead of Los Angeles for the No. 1 seed in the playoffs with an 80-69 win over the Fever.

ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike scored 32 points and Candace Parker added 29 in the Los Angeles Sparks' 115-106 double-overtime victory over the Chicago Sky on Friday night.
Ogwumike added 10 rebounds, and Parker had 12. Chelsea Gray had 20 points and 10 assists, and Odyssey Sims added 15 points and 10 assists.
Ogwumike and Parker made layups to open the second overtime and help Los Angeles (21-8) pull away. Ogwumike had a jumper with 33 seconds in the first overtime to tie at 99.
Vandersloot’s 5th straight double-double leads Sky to win
ROSEMONT, Ill. (AP) — Courtney Vandersloot had 21 points and 10 assists for her fifth straight double-double and the Chicago Sky cruised past the San Antonio Stars 94-74 on Thursday night.
Allie Quigley added 17 points and a career-high nine assists for Chicago (11-16). Vandersloot was 9 of 11 from the field, with three 3-pointers, and Chicago shot 56.7 percent.
Last Saturday, Vandersloot became the first player in WNBA history to log four consecutive double-doubles with points and assists.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Nneka Ogwumike had 20 points and 11 rebounds for her first double-double of the season, and the Los Angeles Sparks beat the Chicago Sky 79-70 on Tuesday night.

Chicago Sky hire Stocks as new head coach/GM
CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Sky hired Los Angeles Sparks assistant Amber Stocks as its new head coach Tuesday.
Stocks replaces Pokey Chatman, who the Sky let go after she guided Chicago to an 18-16 record and an appearance in the WNBA semifinals. She won 106 games in Chicago and led the team to its first-ever playoff appearance in 2013 and a trip to the WNBA Finals in 2014.
