SAN DIEGO (AP) — The San Diego Padres re-signed right-handed pitcher Craig Stammen to a two-year contract Saturday and designated infielder Jose Rondon for assignment.
The 33-year-old Stammen was 2-3 with a 3.14 ERA with 74 strikeouts and just 28 walks in a career-high 60 appearances for the Padres last season. He inherited a National League-high 55 runners and allowed just 14 of them to score, including only two with the bases loaded.

SAN DIEGO (AP) — Some relievers get nervous when they enter with the bases full. Craig Stammen actually enjoys it.
Stammen wiggled out of a major jam in the fifth inning Wednesday night and the San Diego Padres got a home run from starting pitcher Travis Wood on their way to a 5-0 victory over the San Francisco Giants.
"I think it's a privilege to come in with the bases loaded," Stammen said. "That's how I look at it. I'm a strike-thrower and I just try to throw strikes."
