In policy change, Scotland Yard gives thumbs up to tattoos
LONDON (AP) — London's Metropolitan Police force is changing its no-tattoo policy for new recruits.
The change announced Wednesday means people with visible tattoos will be able to serve as police officers — although facial tattoos will still be banned.
Commissioner Cressida Dick said the change was made to bring the police "into line with other services." She said many young people had ruled out joining the police because of their tattoos.

The Metropolitan Police said Monday there were eight homicide inquiries in January, 15 in February and 22 in March. Police reported another homicide on April 1.
If the upward trend continues, there would be substantially more homicides in London in 2018 than took place in 2017.

British police have charged an 18-year-old man with attempted murder and causing an explosion over last week's bomb attack on the London subway.
The Metropolitan Police force says Ahmed Hassan is accused of planting the bomb at Parsons Green station a week ago.
He was arrested Saturday at the port of Dover, departure point for ferries to France.
LONDON (AP) — Detectives in London still are trying to determine the cause of the death for a Muslim man who died during the van attack near Finsbury Park Mosque, the city's police chief said Wednesday.
Metropolitan Police Commissioner Cressida Dick said a special post-mortem examination has been carried out on the victim, 51-year-old Makram Ali. Ali was already ill and receiving first aid early Monday when a van swerved at him and other pedestrians.
