CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — D.J. Moore has a running joke with Curtis Samuel before every game about which of the young Panthers receivers is "going to go off" that day.
Recently it's been one or the other with a big game — and sometimes both.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Cam Newton can't keep from grinning when he looks around at the playmakers that surround him in the Panthers' locker room.
"The talent level we have on this team is extremely scary," Newton said.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — It was D.J. Moore's turn to be a young standout for the Carolina Panthers.
The Panthers' first-round draft pick from Maryland had a team-high five receptions for 90 yards and also gained 39 yards on electrifying runs on back-to-back plays, including a 28-yard dash around right end that proved to be Carolina's biggest run of the day, in a dominating 36-21 win against the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Panthers quarterback Cam Newton is thrilled to have another big-time player in his arsenal moving forward.
Speedy wide receiver Curtis Samuel, the team's second-round draft pick in 2017, returned to action Sunday after missing the first three games due to a minor heart procedure and made an immediate impact in the team's 33-31 win over the New York Giants .
SPARTANBURG, S.C. (AP) — Captain Munnerlyn took one glance at the Carolina Panthers wide receivers' 40-yard times and couldn't believe what he saw.
The veteran cornerback has never seen such a compilation of speed amassed at one position on a roster in any of his 10 NFL training camps.
"Oh man, we got some fast receivers," Munnerlyn said. "I was like, 'Wow, almost everyone runs a 4.4 or lower. That's crazy.' We have some speed on this team — and we probably needed it."
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Carolina Panthers are expected to turn their attention to the defensive side of the ball on day two of the NFL draft.

Wright signed his three-year contract with the Panthers on Tuesday, one day after agreeing to terms .
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Runts. Misfits. Rugrats.
Carolina's Kaelin Clay says all of those nicknames apply when it comes to describing the unheralded collection of wide receivers on the Panthers' roster.
"A lot of us were looked down upon — were guys that nobody wanted," said Clay, one of three former undrafted rookie receivers on Carolina's 53-man roster. "A lot of us where no names coming out (of college) — or still are. But we love it. And we like being the underdogs."
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Panthers say starting wide receiver Damiere Byrd will miss the remainder of the season with a lower leg injury.
He has been placed on injured reserve.
Byrd was injured in Carolina's 22-19 win over Tampa Bay on Sunday. Earlier in the game Byrd had a key 103-yard kickoff return for a touchdown — the longest TD in franchise history — to give Carolina the lead.
He has also given the team a needed boost at receiver.
Here's what to watch in the Big Ten this week:
GAME OF THE WEEK
No. 8 Ohio State (No. 9 CFP) at Michigan.
Ohio State and Michigan will have a tough time matching last year's thriller, a 30-27 classic between storied rivals that the Buckeyes won when Curtis Samuel swept in for a 15-yard touchdown in the second overtime.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina rookie wide receiver Curtis Samuel is done for the year. The Panthers announced Tuedsay that he will undergo season-ending surgery on his left ankle and will be placed on injured reserve.
That means Carolina (7-3) will be looking for a new starting wide receiver heading into the bye week.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Carolina Panthers rookie receiver Curtis Samuel won't return to Monday's game against Miami because of a left ankle injury.
Samuel was hurt when hurt when a defender rolled over his left ankle after an incompletion in the end zone early in the third quarter. Samuel had to be helped to the locker room.
Samuel is a second-round pick out of Ohio State who recently entered the starting lineup after the Panthers dealt Kelvin Benjamin to Buffalo.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — Coach Ron Rivera said the Panthers traded No. 1 receiver Kelvin Benjamin so they could get younger, faster players on the field.
Rivera said Wednesday that starting receivers Benjamin and Devin Funchess had "similar skill sets," and the Panthers wanted players who are vertical threats in the game because "we haven't stretched the field this year."
Benjamin and Funchess are both considered tall possession receivers, but aren't incredibly fast.
CHARLOTTE, North Carolina (AP) — The Carolina Panthers have long been known for their ability to run the football.
Just not this year.
Had it not been for quarterback Cam Newton, who had 71 yards on 11 carries, the Panthers would have been completely one dimensional on offense in losing to the Philadelphia Eagles 28-23 in the NFL on Thursday. Carolina running backs Jonathan Stewart, Christian McCaffrey and Fozzy Whittaker were limited to 1 yard on 13 carries.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The NFL draft answered some questions for the Carolina Panthers, while raising plenty of others.
One of the biggest issues the team faces is how effectively offensive coordinator Mike Shula can use his new personnel after the team dramatically upgraded its speed and versatility.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — One thing was fairly evident from the Carolina Panthers draft: They had a need for speed.
The Panthers added a pair of explosive players in Stanford running back Christian McCaffrey and Ohio State wide receiver Curtis Samuel with their first two picks.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — General manager Dave Gettleman is doing everything he can to get Cam Newton back to playing at an MVP level — and the Panthers back to the Super Bowl.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State coach Urban Meyer said Tuesday that Parris Campbell is distinguishing himself at receiver, and K.J. Hill, Terry McLaurin and Binjimen Victor are right behind him as the Buckeyes try to breathe some life back into their passing game this spring.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Since Ohio State's drubbing by eventual national champion Clemson in the College Football Playoff, coach Urban Meyer has hired new offensive coordinators who have to figure out how to score touchdowns without the Buckeyes' best all-around offensive player and top wide receiver from 2016.
Ohio State All-American Curtis Samuel is giving up his final year of eligibility to enter the NFL draft.
Samuel posted a goodbye message on Twitter on Monday.
"The passion of Buckeye Nation has made my experience at The Ohio State University unforgettable," Samuel wrote. "I have been honored to have amazing and incredibly talented teammates who are my friends for life."
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio State wide receiver Noah Brown says he will skip his final two years of eligibility to enter the NFL draft.
A starter last season for the first time, Brown was second on the team to Curtis Samuel in receiving, catching 30 passes for 385 yards. He tied for the team lead with seven touchdown catches, including tying a school record with four TDs against Oklahoma.
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Christian Wilkins wears a jersey number better suited for a defensive back or a running back than a 310-pound defensive lineman.
Clemson's star sophomore is nimble enough that the Tigers will line him up in the backfield and have even thrown him a couple passes, but that's not why he dons No. 42.
"The short answer is to honor my late grandfather, who passed away six years ago," Wilkins said Saturday. "He was born in 1942."
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — When fall camp opened, coach Urban Meyer had a pretty good idea how quarterback J.T. Barrett played would dictate Ohio State's fortunes, that Curtis Samuel would be a top playmaker and Mike Weber had what it took to be the next elite tailback in Columbus.
Those were pretty safe bets.
But some other things happened in 2016 that not even Meyer could have predicted — most of them good.
The 2016 Associated Press All-America college football teams:
Quarterback — Lamar Jackson, sophomore, 6-foot-3, 205 pounds, Louisville
Running backs — D'Onta Foreman, junior, 6-2, 249, Texas; Dalvin Cook, junior, 5-11, 213, Florida State
Tackles — Cam Robinson, junior, 6-6, 310, Alabama; Ryan Ramczyk, junior, 6-6, 314, Wisconsin
Guards — Cody O'Connell, junior, 6-8, 354, Washington State; Dan Feeney, senior, 6-4, 305, Indiana.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Geologists measuring vibrations caused by boisterous Ohio State football fans say the Buckeyes' game-winning touchdown in double overtime against rival Michigan had Ohio Stadium rocking more than any other time this season.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The play was 29 Lead, and it will go down in history as how Ohio State beat Michigan in one of the greatest games ever played by the Big Ten's most storied rivals.
That's pretty much all Buckeyes coach Urban Meyer wanted to talk about. Everything else about the second-ranked Buckeyes' 30-27 victory over the third-ranked Wolverines on Saturday was almost too overwhelming for Meyer to sort out so soon after what he called an instant classic.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — After the instant classic 30-27 double overtime win by Ohio State Saturday, Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh blasted officials and said the Wolverines were wronged.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Ohio Stadium is sure to be rocking on Saturday when Ohio State and Michigan take the football field, and geologists will find out just how much through the use of seismographs.
Ohio State and Miami University professors teamed up with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to devise the "FanQuakes Magnitude Scale," and have planted sensors around the stadium this year to measure the seismic activity created by fans.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — Besides having national playoff implications, this year's Ohio State vs. Michigan game is full of questions, story lines and intriguing matchups.
Can Ohio State quarterback J.T. Barrett solve Michigan's best-in-the-nation defense?
Will Michigan superstar Jabrill Peppers be able to shut down Curtis Samuel, Ohio State's do-it-all hybrid back?

WHAT'S AT STAKE
Just about everything that really counts. The annual clash between the rivals means even more this year as the winner is likely to end up in the College Football Playoffs.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — When Ohio State's passing game was sputtering last month, J.T. Barrett kept saying everything was OK. Even after the loss to unranked Penn State, the quarterback insisted no big changes were necessary and the offense was on track.
The quiet Texan's confidence and patience paid dividends.

WHAT'S AT STAKE
Ohio State was denied a chance to play for Big Ten and national titles last season after the Buckeyes were upset at home by Michigan State. They'll try to avoid a repeat and stay firmly in those races this year.
COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Ohio State seems to be getting into a rut — the good kind that can lead to championships.
J.T. Barrett accounted for four touchdowns, Curtis Samuel scored three TDs and the sixth-ranked Buckeyes enjoyed another 62-3 rout — this time, against Maryland on Saturday.
After beating then-No. 10 Nebraska by the identical score last week, Ohio State poured it on against the Terrapins, going up 21-3 after the first quarter and 45-3 at halftime.
