TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — The guys who have to block Quinnen Williams in practice aren't the least bit surprised by his success on Alabama's defensive line.
Williams has emerged as a dominant force for the top-ranked Crimson Tide at nose guard, doing in games all season what he had often done in practice.

The top-ranked Crimson Tide has flipped its usual persona this season with a Tua Tagovailoa-led offense putting up video game-like numbers and the defense going fairly low-key.

While watching film of then-Alabama, now Redskins defensive lineman Jonathan Allen before last year's NFL draft, another player on the Crimson Tide's front line caught coach Jay Gruden's eye.

It's the kind of moment he could have had on stage at the NFL draft had he gone in the first round as projected. Instead, the LSU running back slipped to late in the second round amid some off-field character concerns and will now give the Washington Redskins a very motivated rusher.
Redskins pick another Alabama player: Shaun Dion Hamilton
We might as well start calling them the Washington Crimsonskins.
The Redskins drafted linebacker Shaun Dion Hamilton in the sixth round of the NFL draft Saturday, and get this Hamilton went to Alabama.
Washington has now drafted four players from Alabama in the last two years. They took Alabama defensive tackle Da'Ron Payne in the first round. In 2017, they drafted Jonathan Allen and Ryan Anderson.

ASHBURN, Va. (AP) — Taking a defensive lineman from Alabama in the first round for the second consecutive year, the Washington Redskins chose tackle Da'Ron Payne with the 13th overall pick in the NFL draft on Thursday night.
The 6-foot-2, 311-pound Payne is considered a top-notch run-stopper, and he'll line up next to former college teammate Jonathan Allen, Washington's initial selection in 2017.
In Monday's NFL draft newsletter, Marcus Mosher built the analytical case that three of the draft's top interior DL prospects lack the necessary blend of college production and athleticism to be first-rounders.

Alabama receiver Calvin Ridley says he will enter draft
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) — Alabama junior wide receiver Calvin Ridley is entering the NFL draft.
Ridley announced his decision in a Twitter post Wednesday, two days after the Crimson Tide won the second national championship of his three-year career.
Widely projected as a first-round pick, Ridley easily led the Tide in receiving. He had 63 catches for 967 yards while no other wide receiver caught more than 14 balls.
Alabama has grabbed a berth in the College Football Playoff championship game by whipping top-ranked Clemson 24-6 in the Sugar Bowl. Defensive lineman Da'Ron Payne's interception set up his one-yard touchdown catch in the third quarter, one play before Mack Wilson picked off a pass and raced 18 yards for a TD that put the Crimson Tide ahead 24-6. Jalen Hurts threw for two touchdowns to help Alabama turn next Monday's title game into an All-SEC matchup against Georgia.

The winner will face No. 7 Georgia in the SEC championship game. Auburn could make the playoffs with Iron Bowl and title game wins. Alabama might not have to win out to make a fourth consecutive playoff but is assured of a spot if that happens. The Crimson Tide has won the past three meetings.
Hurts, Alabama players top coaches preseason All-SEC team
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — Alabama placed a league-high 15 players on the coaches preseason All-Southeastern Conference teams, including quarterback Jalen Hurts.
The SEC released the teams on Wednesday with all 14 members represented.
Alabama had four players on the first-team offense and four on the first-team defense, plus punter JK Scott.
Reigning SEC offensive player of the year Hurts was joined by offensive linemen Jonah Williams and Ross Pierschbacher, along with wide receiver Calvin Ridley.
