Australia into Davis Cup finals in Madrid
ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — Australia won its Davis Cup qualifier against Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-0 to secure a spot in this year's 18-team final in Madrid.
The Australian doubles pair of John Peers and Jordan Thompson defeated Mirza Basic and Tomislav Brkic 7-5, 6-1 on Saturday on hard courts at Memorial Drive to give the home side an unbeatable 3-0 lead.
Alexei Popyrin, in his Davis Cup debut, followed with a 6-1 7-6 (2) victory over Nerman Fatic. The fifth match was not played.

ADELAIDE, Australia (AP) — John Millman and Alex de Minaur gave Australia a 2-0 lead over Bosnia and Herzegovina in Davis Cup qualifying on Friday.
Millman defeated Damir Dzumhur 6-3 6-2 in the opening singles match at Adelaide's Memorial Drive and De Minaur followed with a 6-3 7-6 (0) victory against Mirza Basic.
Play concludes Saturday with a doubles match and reverse singles.

Konta beats Mertens at Kremlin Cup
MOSCOW (AP) — Johanna Konta of Britain upset seventh-seeded Belgian Elise Mertens in the first round of the Kremlin Cup on Tuesday.
Making up a 30-place rankings gap to the 14th-ranked Mertens, Konta took full advantage of Mertens' wayward serving to win 6-3, 7-5.
Top-seeded Marin Cilic loses in 1st round at Japan Open
TOKYO (AP) — Top-seeded Marin Cilic was knocked out of the Japan Open in the first round after losing to Jan-Lennard Struff 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (1) on Tuesday.
Eighth-seeded Richard Gasquet and three-time Grand Slam champion Stan Wawrinka also advanced to the second round, both by beat American opposition. Gasquet defeated Denis Kudla 7-6 (10), 6-3 while Wawrinka beat Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4.
Also, Frances Tiafoe beat Maximilian Marterer 7-5, 6-4, and Jeremy Chardy defeated Damir Dzumhur 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Verdasco beats Murray at Shenzhen Open, reaches semifinals
SHENZHEN, China (AP) — Fernando Verdasco advanced to the semifinals of the Shenzhen Open by beating Andy Murray 6-4, 6-4 on Friday.
Verdasco, who is now 3-13 against Murray after winning the last two, saved five of six break points and broke Murray's serve three times.
Verdasco will next face Yoshihito Nishioka, who defeated Cameron Norrie 7-6 (2), 6-2.
Thiem wins in St. Petersburg, Youzhny calls it a day
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Top-seeded Dominic Thiem reached the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open with a 7-6 (4), 6-4 win over Jan-Lennard Struff on Thursday.

Wawrinka reaches St. Petersburg Open quarterfinals
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Stan Wawrinka kept his injury comeback on track with a hard-fought win over Karen Khachanov to reach the quarterfinals of the St. Petersburg Open on Wednesday.
Wawrinka saved two set points in each set on his way to winning 7-6 (10), 7-6 (1) over the fourth-seeded Khachanov, who at No. 24 is ranked 64 places above Wawrinka.
Wawrinka's quarterfinal opponent will be either defending champion Damir Dzumhur or Guido Pella.

MADRID (AP) — Juan Martin del Potro marked his clay-season debut with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Damir Dzumhur in the second round of the Madrid Open on Tuesday.
It was the 22nd triumph this season for the sixth-ranked Del Potro, who has the most victories on the ATP Tour in 2018.
"I was playing well out there," said Del Potro, who won back-to-back titles in Acapulco and Indian Wells earlier this year.

MARSEILLE, France (AP) — Third-seeded Frenchman Lucas Pouille and fourth-seeded Czech Tomas Berdych advanced to the Open 13 semifinals on Friday.
Pouille beat eighth-seeded Filip Krajinovic of Serbia 7-6 (5), 3-6, 6-4, hitting 20 aces and securing victory on his first match point when he broke Krajinovic's serve for the first time.
Berdych led 7-6 (4) when seventh-seeded Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia-Herzegovina pulled out feeling sickly.
Goffin to face Gasquet in Open Sud de France semis
MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Top seed David Goffin did not face a break point as he beat qualifier Karen Khachanov 6-4, 6-4 on Friday to reach the semifinals of the Open Sud de France.
Goffin, who had an excellent season last year capped by a runners-up spot at the ATP Finals, next meets triple champion Richard Gasquet.
Gasquet got off to a slow start against fourth seed Damir Dzumhur but eventually progressed 6-4, 6-2 at the indoor tournament. He was 4-1 down before winning 11 of the last 13 games.
Gasquet advances to Open Sud de France quarterfinals
MONTPELLIER, France (AP) — Fifth-seeded Richard Gasquet won a hard-fought all-French match against Pierre-Hugues Herbert on Thursday to reach the Open Sud de France quarterfinals.
Gasquet, who played against his Davis Cup teammate for the first time on the main tour, prevailed 7-6 (3), 5-7, 6-3 in more than two hours at the indoor tournament.
"The court is very fast, and he served very well," Gasquet said after facing 14 aces from his rival.
Dzumhur beats Berankis to win Kremlin Cup
MOSCOW (AP) — Damir Dzumhur recovered from a second-set slip to beat Ricardas Berankis and win the Kremlin Cup on Sunday.
Bosnia's Dzumhur beat his Lithuanian opponent 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 to win his second career ATP title after victory last month at the St. Petersburg Open.
Dzumhur dominated from the start but slumped in the second set even though Berankis made just 31 percent of his first serves in that set.
Bosnian Damir Dzumhur wins 1st title in St. Petersburg
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Unseeded Damir Dzumhur became the first player from Bosnia-Herzegovina to win an ATP World Tour singles title, beating Fabio Fognini 3-6, 6-4, 6-2 Sunday in the final of the St. Petersburg Open.
The 25-year-old Dzumhur's maiden title came after reaching his first career final in Winston-Salem in August.
"I couldn't find my best rhythm, couldn't find my best game," Dzumhur said. "But the experience of playing one final already helped me a lot and in the end I won."
Fognini, Dzumhur reach final of St. Petersburg Open
ST. PETERSBURG, Russia (AP) — Fabio Fognini will play for his second ATP title of the year and Damir Dzumhur for the first of his career in the final of the St. Petersburg Open.
The third-seeded Fognini eliminated top-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut of Spain 2-6, 7-6 (7), 7-5 (5) in 2 1/2 hours in the semifinals on Saturday. The Italian broke Bautista Agut only once, in the second set.
Bautista Agut beats Dzumhur in Winston-Salem final
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — Top-seeded Roberto Bautista Agut beat Damir Dzumhur 6-4, 6-4 on Saturday in the Winston-Salem Open for his second ATP World Tour title of the year and the sixth overall.
Bautista Agut, the Spaniard ranked No. 15 in the world, became the first player in the seven-year history of the tournament to not lose a set in any of his six matches. He won a year after losing the final to countryman Pablo Carreno Busta.
Wawrinka’s Dubai title defense ends in round 1
DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Defending champion Stan Wawrinka was upset by Damir Dzumhur 7-6 (4), 6-3 in the first round of the Dubai Tennis Championships on Tuesday.

Basilashvili, ranked 67th in the world, never lost his serve and allowed the 20th-ranked Karlovic just one break-point opportunity.

Isner advances in Memphis, Querrey ousted in straight sets
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — John Isner served up 26 aces in beating Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka 4-6, 6-3, 6-4 on Wednesday night to reach the quarterfinals at the Memphis Open.
The second-seeded American managed only five of those aces in dropping the first set. Isner, making his debut at this event at The Racquet Club, bounced back by serving up 11 aces in the second set where he won all 15 points on his first serve. He had 10 more aces in the third set winning 17 of 18 points on first service.
Young rallies to beat No. 6 seed Mannarino in Memphis Open
MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Donald Young rallied from a break down in each of the last two sets Monday night to beat No. 6 seed Adrian Mannarino 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (4) in the opening round of the Memphis Open.
Young served for the match at 5-3 in the third set but failed to hold. The American regrouped from there and erased a 3-1 deficit in the third-set tiebreak.
Mannarino had led 4-2 in the second set and 2-0 in the third.
Borna Coric ousted by Chung Hyeon in Chennai Open
CHENNAI, India (AP) — South Korean qualifier Chung Hyeon upset sixth-seeded Borna Coric, a finalist last year, in a 6-3, 7-5 victory in the first round of the Chennai Open on Monday.
Chung continued his fine form from the qualifying tournament and proved too strong for the highly-rated Croat in a baseline slugfest at the SDAT Nungambakkam stadium.
The South Korean capitalized on Coric's sluggish play to win the first set, as the world No.48 struggled to find his range.
