Wolfsburg extends Nuremberg’s winless run in Bundesliga
BERLIN (AP) — Wolfsburg won at Nuremberg 2-0 and extended the host's winless streak in the Bundesliga to nine consecutive games on Friday.
Nuremberg, which was promoted at the start of this season, was left in the relegation zone behind Stuttgart on goal difference.
Striker Daniel Ginczek scored from a pass by Maximilian Arnold to put Wolfsburg in front an hour in. Substitute Josip Brekalo rounded off the victory with a second goal in stoppage time.
Claudio Pizarro, 40, helps Werder Bremen beat Wolfsburg 2-0
BREMEN, Germany (AP) — Two days after his 40th birthday, Claudio Pizarro came off the bench to set up Werder Bremen's insurance goal in a 2-0 win over Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga on Friday.
Pizarro played the ball in for fellow substitute Johannes Eggestein to score with four minutes remaining.
American duo Brooks, Johnson score in Bundesliga
BERLIN (AP) — American duo John Brooks and Fabian Johnson scored in the Bundesliga on Saturday.
Brooks' first goal since joining Wolfsburg last year paved the way for a 2-1 win against Schalke. The 25-year-old United States defender, who had a frustrating first season at the Volkswagen-backed club due to injury, met Maximilian Arnold's corner with a powerful header.
VAR takes center stage as Wolfsburg upsets 10-man Schalke
BERLIN (AP) — Wout Weghorst was shown a red card on his Wolfsburg debut on Saturday but stayed on the field in a 2-1 win against 10-man Schalke as video assistant referee decisions again took center stage in the Bundesliga.
Referee Patrick Ittrich had already sent off Schalke defender Matija Nastasic after an intervention from the VAR following a dangerous tackle on Weghorst in the 65th minute.
Bremen, Stuttgart win to ease Bundesliga relegation fears
BERLIN (AP) — Werder Bremen and Stuttgart managed to ease their Bundesliga relegation worries on Sunday with home wins.
Bremen enjoyed a 3-1 victory over Wolfsburg in the late game, while Daniel Ginczek's early goal was enough for Stuttgart's 1-0 win against Borussia Moenchengladbach.
It was Tayfun Korkut's first win in his second game as Stuttgart coach.
"We turned last week's point to gold," said Korkut, whose side moved four points above the relegation zone with 12 rounds remaining.
Gregoritsch scores 2 as Augsburg beats Werder Bremen 3-0
Austria forward Michael Gregoritsch scored twice for Augsburg in a 3-0 win at struggling Werder Bermen in the Bundesliga on Sunday.
Gregoritsch scored in each half, either side of a penalty from Iceland striker Alfred Finnbogason in first-half stoppage time.
Gregoritsch has been in good form this season and improved his tally to five in nine league games.
The defeat keeps Bremen in relegation trouble with five points from 10 games. Augsburg is ninth with 15 points.
