AP Source: Angels reach minor-league deal with Daniel Hudson
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — A person familiar with the decision tells The Associated Press that reliever Daniel Hudson has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Los Angeles Angels.
The source spoke on condition of anonymity Friday because the Angels haven't announced the deal.
Hudson had a 4.11 ERA in 46 innings last season for the Dodgers, who were the right-hander's fourth big-league team. He missed the final two months of the season with forearm soreness.
Dodgers hit 7 homers in 8-7 win over Mets
NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Turner hit Los Angeles' seventh home run of the game, a go-ahead drive in the 11th inning that lifted the Dodgers over the New York Mets 8-7 on Sunday.
Cody Bellinger and Kike Hernandez each homered twice as the Dodgers beat the Mets for the 12th straight time dating to 2016. Max Muncy and Joc Pederson also connected for Los Angeles. Hernandez and Muncy led off the game with back-to-back shots.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Joc Pederson went deep twice, Cody Bellinger hit his third home run in as many games and the Los Angeles Dodgers used nine pitchers to hold off the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-7 on Thursday.
Hosmer homers as Padres beat Dodgers 7-4
MONTERREY, Mexico (AP) — The San Diego Padres rebounded nicely from Los Angeles' combined no-hitter, using two-run homers by Eric Hosmer and Raffy Lopez to beat the Dodgers 7-4 on Saturday night in the first major league series in Mexico since 1999.
A day after the first no-hitter ever outside the U.S. or Canada, Travis Jankowski led off the first with a triple for San Diego's first hit of the series. Hosmer then hit a drive over the wall in right against Kenta Maeda.
Rays deal Dickerson to Pirates for Hudson and minor leaguer
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (AP) — Tampa Bay traded All-Star designated hitter Corey Dickerson to Pittsburgh on Thursday in exchange for relief pitcher Daniel Hudson, minor league infielder Tristan Gray and cash.
The 28-year-old Dickerson was designated for assignment last Saturday. He was the AL's starting DH in last summer's All-Star game, but struggled at the plate the second half of the season. The trade lets the Rays shed Dickerson's $5.95 million salary.
Pirates’ Taillon ‘different person’ after cancer surgery
BRADENTON, Fla. (AP) — Jameson Taillon never allowed himself much time to think about his bout with testicular cancer last season.
The Pittsburgh pitcher's focus from nearly the moment he received the diagnosis in early May was to return to the mound as quickly as possible. Just five weeks later, he was activated from the disabled list and pitched five scoreless innings to beat the visiting Colorado Rockies.
Avila delivers in 9th, Cubs top Pirates despite Cole’s gem
PITTSBURGH (AP) — On a tough night for hitters in both lineups, Alex Avila didn't need to hit the ball hard to get the Cubs on the board. As it turned out, his broken-bat liner into the right-field corner was the only right-place, right-time shot of the game.
Avila flared an RBI triple in the ninth inning, capping a duel between Jose Quintana and Gerrit Cole and lifting Chicago over the Pittsburgh Pirates 1-0 on Wednesday.
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Pirates right-hander Daniel Hudson was only thinking about Giants star Buster Posey when he uncorked a full-count slider Saturday.
When the ball skipped in the dirt and got away from the catcher, Denard Span was ready to pounce.
Span sprinted home from third on Hudson's wild pitch in the 11th inning to give San Francisco a 2-1 victory over Pittsburgh on Saturday.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Austin Barnes and pitcher Ross Stripling were the only options manager Dave Roberts had left on the Los Angeles Dodgers bench.
Believe it or not, Roberts had planned it that way.
Pinch hitter Barnes doubled with one out in the 10th inning, scoring pinch runner Stripling to lift the Dodgers over the Pittsburgh Pirates 4-3 on Tuesday night.
Diamondbacks fall to Orioles 3-2 on Trumbo’s homer
BALTIMORE (AP) — Despite another disappointing loss, Arizona manager Chip Hale is proud of the way his team competes.
Mark Trumbo led off the 12th inning with his major league-leading 44th home run, and the Baltimore Orioles rallied from a late two-run deficit to beat the Diamondbacks 3-2 on Friday night.
Arizona lost for just the second time in 57 games when leading after eight innings.
