Sporting KC advances to face Portland in conference finals
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi scored two goals and Kansas City beat Real Salt Lake 4-2 on Sunday for Sporting's first playoff win in five years.
It gave Sporting a 5-3 series win on aggregate to advance to face the Portland Timbers in the Western Conference finals, also a two-game series.
10-man Sporting KC beats LAFC for Western Conference title
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi scored the go-ahead goal for the third straight game and 10-man Sporting Kansas City beat Los Angeles FC 2-1 on Sunday for its first conference title since 2012.
Sporting KC (18-8-8) will get a Knockout Round bye, hosting its first home playoff game since 2015. LAFC (16-9-9) was trying to become the first expansion team to finish atop its conference in its inaugural season.
Sporting KC beats Dallas 3-0, moves atop Western Conference
FRISCO, Texas (AP) — Roger Espinoza and Johnny Russell scored second-half goals and Sporting Kansas City beat FC Dallas 3-0 on Sunday to move atop the Western Conference.
Kansas City (17-8-8) is two points ahead of FC Dallas and Los Angeles FC, which plays at Sporting next week in the season finale. Dallas (16-8-9), which has lost two straight since a five-match unbeaten streak, plays at 11th-place Colorado.
Sporting Kansas City beats Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) — Daniel Salloi scored twice and Sporting Kansas City beat the Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1 on Wednesday night.
Yohan Croizet and Gianluca Busio also scored for help Sporting (16-8-8) move into third place in the Western Conference.
Felipe Martins scored for Vancouver (12-13-7). The Whitecaps are is eighth in Western Conference, two spots out of a postseason berth with two games left in the regular season.
Rubio’s 2 goals help Sporting KC beat Timbers 3-0
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Diego Rubio scored two goals and Tim Melia had his 10th shutout of the season to help Sporting Kansas City beat the Portland Timbers 3-0 on Saturday night.
Sporting (12-6-6) won its third straight to remain three points behind Western Conference-leading FC Dallas.
Rubio rifled a shot from the top of the box just inside the near post to open the scoring in the 28th minute and then made it 2-0 when he put away a cross by Daniel Salloi in the 37th.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Michael Barrios had his first MLS hat trick to help FC Dallas beat Sporting Kansas City 3-2 on Saturday night.
Dallas (12-3-6) is unbeaten in its last three games and has four wins in its last six.
Barrios, who scored for the first time since Oct. 22 and matched his goal total from last season, opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, tapping it over goalkeeper Tim Melia into an open net.
SANDY, Utah (AP) — Sebastian Saucedo scored from the top of the box at the end of the first half and Real Salt Lake knocked Sporting Kansas City out of a share of first place in the Western Conference with a 4-2 win Wednesday night.
Sporting KC (9-4-5) has lost two straight and trails FC Dallas by three points in the West.
RSL (8-8-2) led 3-1 at intermission, but Sporting KC pulled within one when Ike Opara scored on a cross by Johnny Russell in the 64th minute.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi had a goal and two assists and Khiry Shelton scored a late goal in Sporting Kansas City's 3-2 comeback victory over the Houston Dynamo on Friday night.
Shelton, who came on in the 76th minute, gave Sporting KC its first lead in the 88th. Salloi, on the left side, played a cross to a charging Shelton, who finished from just outside of the 6-yard box to make it 3-2.
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Goalkeepers Jeff Attinella of Portland and Tim Melia of Sporting KC each made four saves, and the two teams played to a scoreless tie on Saturday night.
Sporting KC (8-2-5) and Portland (6-3-4) entered the match not having lost since April. The Timbers are unbeaten in their last seven games and Kansas City now has gone six games without defeat.
Kuzain, Sporting KC beat Minnesota United 4-1
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Wan Kuzain scored his first MLS goal to help Sporting Kansas City beat Minnesota United 4-1 on Sunday night.
Kuzain, a 19-year-old homegrown playing in his second career game, one-timed a cross by Graham Zusi — that deflected off a defender — into the net to give Sporting (8-2-4) a 2-1 lead in the 35th minute.
Kansas City is unbeaten in its last five games and has just one loss since opening day.
Sporting Kansas City beats short-handed Atlanta United 2-0
ATLANTA (AP) — Turns out, the showdown between the two leading teams in Major League Soccer was not a fair fight.
Atlanta went a man down in the first half — losing its starting goalkeeper, no less — and Sporting Kansas City took advantage of the extra player to score a pair of second-half goals, snapping United's eight-game unbeaten streak with a 2-0 victory Wednesday night.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi scored the lone goal early in the first half, and Sporting Kansas City held on for a 1-0 win over the Colorado Rapids on Saturday night.
Salloi scored for Sporting KC (6-2-2) in the 16th minute. Ike Opara created the danger with a header across the face of goal, which Khiry Shelton headed into the post. Salloi calmly put the rebound back past a helpless Tim Howard into the top of the net.

Ibrahimovic had three shots on goal from distance and earned a corner when Sporting KC put his cross out of play.

BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) — Felipe Gutierrez scored twice and Sporting Kansas City rallied with two late goals to beat the Chicago Fire 4-3 on Saturday night.
Gutierrez capped the scoring for Sporting (1-1-0) in the 86th minute, finishing Daniel Salloi's back-heel flip. Jimmy Medranda tied it at 3-all three minutes earlier with a left-footed blast.

KANSAS CITY, Kansas (AP) — Ghana-born forward Latif Blessing scored midway through the first half, Daniel Salloi added a goal in the second and Sporting Kansas City held on to beat the New York Red Bulls 2-1 on Wednesday for its fourth U.S. Open Cup title.
The fast-paced match featured plenty of chances by both Major League Soccer clubs, but it was the pint-sized Blessing whose header in the 25th minute that put Sporting KC ahead to stay.

KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi had a goal and an assist and Sporting Kansas City survived a late scare to beat the Chicago Fire 3-2 on Saturday night.
Salloi opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, Matt Besler tied it for Chicago (11-5-5) in 28th, and Benny Feilhaber gave Sporting KC (9-4-9) a 2-1 lead in first-half stoppage time. Latif Blessing scored in the 51st — off Salloi's assist — to increase Kansas City's lead to 3-1.
KANSAS CITY, Kan. (AP) — Daniel Salloi scored his first career MLS goal in the second half and Sporting Kansas City remained unbeaten at home with a 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers on Saturday night.
Salloi took a delivery from Roger Espinoza, settled the ball and found the top corner in the 60th minute. Salloi, who entered the game in the 35th minute, had played in just eight of 18 matches, averaging less than 10 minutes with no shots on target.
