AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Loren Cristian Jackson had 18 points as Akron extended its home win streak to seven games, topping Kent State 72-53 on Friday night.
Tyler Cheese had 15 points for Akron (14-9, 6-4 Mid-American Conference). Daniel Utomi added 14 points.
Kent State scored 23 second-half points, a season low for the team.
Ivey, Utomi lead Akron past Ohio 65-53
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Jimond Ivey scored 21 points with nine rebounds and Daniel Utomi scored 14 and Akron beat Ohio 65-53 on Saturday.
Akron sped to a 17-5 lead with Ivey and Utomi each making 3-pointers. Ohio got it going on offense and established an 11-4 run to draw within 21-16 with 5:09 before halftime.
Jackson with 22 points leads Akron past N. Illinois 67-65
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Loren Cristian Jackson scored 22 points as Akron rallied in the second half to edge Northern Illinois 67-65 on Saturday night.

Miami (Ohio) powers past Akron 68-61
OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Darrian Ringo had 16 points and nine assists and Miami (Ohio) used a late run to power past Akron 68-61 for the RedHawks' first conference win of the season on Saturday.
Akron matched its largest lead of the game when Daniel Utomi's layup made it 43-36 with 13 minutes to go. Miami then went on a 21-2 run to take control, pushing to the largest lead of the game at 57-45 with five minutes to go.
Utomi, Ivey help Akron hold off Eastern Michigan 51-49
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi and Jimond Ivey scored 12 points each and Akron held off Eastern Michigan 51-49 on Tuesday night despite poor shooting from both teams late.
Eastern Michigan (8-9, 2-2 Mid-American Conference) shot 2 of 9 from the floor and had a turnover over the last five minutes while the Zips (10-7, 2-2) missed three field goals and a free throw, and turned the ball over four times.
German scores 27, NIU uses big 2nd half to rally past Akron
DEKALB, Ill. (AP) — Eugene German had 27 points, seven rebounds and five 3-pointers and Northern Illinois used a big second half to rally past Akron 73-56 on Saturday.
Akron led 34-25 at halftime but NIU dominated the second half by outscoring the Zips 48-22. Akron only made four second-half field goals through the first 16 minutes, to trail 66-49 with 3:46 left, and the Huskies were shooting 75 percent at the same point.
Austin hits winner, Central Michigan tops Akron 88-86 in OT
MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) — Larry Austin Jr. drove for a layup that kissed softly off the glass with 2.5 seconds left and Central Michigan battled past Akron in overtime on Tuesday night for its seventh straight win.
Jimond Ivey scored 24 points to lead Akron, including two free throws with 12.4 seconds remaining in overtime to knot the score 86-86. Ivey also grabbed 11 rebounds and made seven assists with just one turnover.
Utomi scores 22 points and Akron defeats Carnegie Mellon
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi had 22 points and six rebounds and Akron defeated Division III Carnegie Mellon 82-55 on Sunday.
Utomi made 5 of 9 3-point tries. Jimond Ivey had 11 points and seven assists for the Zips (8-5). Channel Banks scored 13 points and Tyler Cheese added 12 for Akron, which shot 49 percent and made 11 of 30 from the arc.
Cooper Williams led the Tartans with 12 points and Trent Suddeth had a team-high six rebounds.
Jackson scores 23 points to lead Akron over Tennessee State
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Loren Crist Jackson scored 23 points, Jimond Ivey added 19 and Daniel Utomi had 18 points and Akron defeated Tennessee State 82-60 on Tuesday night.
Jackson and Utomi combined to make nine of the Zips' 13 3-pointers, Jackson making 4 of 8 and Utomi hitting on 5 of 8. The Zips (7-4) made 13 of 29 from distance and Tennessee State made just 5 of 18.
Tennessee State (3-7) was led in scoring and rebounding by Donte Fitzpatrick-Dorsey, who had 11 points and eight rebounds.
Elmore helps Marshall hold off Akron 75-74
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Jon Elmore totaled 19 points, eight rebounds and six assists and Marshall held off Akron 75-74 on Saturday.
Harrell, Konchar help Fort Wayne hold off Akron, 68-63
FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) — Kason Harrell scored 24 points, John Konchar had 13 points and 11 rebounds and Fort Wayne held on for a 68-65 win over Akron on Wednesday night.
Konchar, who also had four assists and three steals, became the program's career rebound leader with 966 and Harrell, a junior who has 1,021 career points, became the 16th player in Fort Wayne history to score at least 1,000.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Jimond Ivey scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Akron notched its third-straight win, beating Detroit Mercy 71-59 on Saturday.
Ivey was 10 of 12 from the field and made all four of his free throws for the Zips (6-2). Daniel Utomi added 13 points and seven rebounds and Channel Banks had 10 points and five rebounds.
Akron shot 43 percent from the field compared to 30 percent for Detroit Mercy.
Akron pulls away on 21-0 run, beats Alabama State 86-54
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Tyler Cheese scored 19 points to lead five players in double figures as Akron rolled to an 86-54 victory over Alabama State on Wednesday night.
Cheese was 7 of 9 from the field and made three 3-pointers. Jimond Ivey added 13 points and Emmanuel Olojakpoke chipped in with 12 for Akron (5-2). Daniel Utomi and Channel Banks finished with 10 points apiece.
Akron shot 34 of 60 (57 percent) from the field, made 12 from long range and outrebounded Alabama State 42-28.
Akron takes 7th place at Cayman Islands Classic
GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) — Daniel Utomi sank six 3-pointers and had 22 points and nine rebounds, leading Akron past St. Bonaventure 61-49 on Wednesday for seventh place at the Cayman Islands Classic.
Utomi made all five of his 3-point attempts in the first half as Akron built a 30-23 lead. The Zips held St. Bonaventure to just one field goal over a nine-minute stretch in the second half and used a 14-2 run for a 46-29 lead.
Illinois State beats Akron 73-68 in Cayman Islands Classic
GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) — Josh Jefferson made four 3-pointers and scored 19 points, Phil Fayne had 18 points and nine rebounds and Illinois State beat Akron 73-68 on Tuesday in the Cayman Islands Classic.
Fayne made two free throws with 3:38 to go for a 68-62 lead, but Akron pulled within 70-68 on Jimond Ivey's fast-break dunk. Yarbrough hit 1 of 2 free throws with 25 seconds left for a three-point lead, and after Ivey missed a 3-pointer, Josh Jefferson sealed it with two free throws.
Mitchell, No. 16 Clemson top Akron in Cayman Islands Classic
GEORGE TOWN, Cayman Islands (AP) — Shelton Mitchell scored 22 points with four steals, Elijah Thomas had 15 points and 12 rebounds and No. 16 Clemson beat Akron 72-69 on Monday in the first game of the Cayman Islands Classic.

Banks was 6 of 8 from the floor and made three 3-pointers. Utomi was 6-of-13 shooting and hit four 3-pointers. Akron (3-0) shot 53 percent from the field (28 of 53) and scored 20 points off 20 Chicago State turnovers.

Akron unloads on Youngstown St. for 98-69 win behind Utomi
YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi scored 25 points and Akron blew open what was a close game in the second half and beat Youngstown State 98-69 on Saturday.
Akron led 46-44 at halftime and extended the lead to 58-48 on a Tyler Cheese layup with 14:33 remaining. The lead reached 20 when Loren Cristian Jackson made a pair of free throws six minutes later.
E. Michigan beats Akron 67-58, heads to MAC semis
CLEVELAND (AP) — Elijah Minnie scored 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds and Eastern Michigan rallied with a 28-4 second-half run to beat Akron 67-58 in Thursday night's Mid-American Conference quarterfinal, defeating the Zips for the first time in six chances in tournament play.
Tim Bond and Paul Jackson scored 15 points apiece for the third-seeded Eagles (21-11), who play No. 2 seed Toledo (22-10) in Friday's semifinal.
KALAMAZOO, Mich. (AP) — Daniel Utomi had 26 points and Freshman Virshon Cotton scored five of his 21 points in the final 45 seconds to help Akron beat Western Michigan 79-78 on Monday night in the Mid-American Conference Tournament.
Utomi was 9-of-12 shooting, including 6 of 9 from 3-point range, and Cotton had season-high-tying seven assists.
Akron slips past Kent State 67-65
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi had 20 points and eight rebounds, Eric Parrish made a pair of free throws with three seconds left on Friday night and Akron closed the regular season with a 67-65 win over Kent State.
The Zips (15-16, 9-9 Mid-American Conference) held the Golden Flashes (13-17, 6-12) scoreless for the final 3:38 and scored five points, all at the foul line, during that time. Utomi split two pairs of free throws, the second making it 65-all with 1:43 left.
McLane’s 23 points paces Miami (OH) over Akron 64-62 in OT
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Logan McLane scored 23 points on 9-for-11 shooting and Miami (OH) defeated Akron 64-62 in overtime on Saturday.
Eric Parrish's 3-point play with 36 seconds left in the extra session reduced the Zips' deficit to 61-60 before McLane followed with a quick layup. Jimond Ivey made a pair of free throws before Rod Mills Jr. made 1 of 2 foul shots and Miami led 64-62 with 20 seconds left. Ivey missed a 3-point attempt with four seconds to go to end it.

Dartis scores career-high 38 as Ohio thumps Akron 99-75
ATHENS, Ohio (AP) — Jordan Dartis scored 26 of his career-high 38 points in the first half as Ohio sprinted to an early lead and coasted to a 99-75 win over Akron to halt a four-game skid in Mid-American Conference action on Tuesday night.
Dartis also hit a career-best 10 of 15 from long range, making 13 of 20 from the field. Gavin Block added 14 points and Teyvion Kirk scored 13 with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals for Ohio (10-13, 3-8). Doug Taylor had five blocks.
Fletcher, Sanford lead Toledo past Akron 77-56

OXFORD, Ohio (AP) — Dalonte Brown scored 17 points and Darrian Ringo had 12 points, 11 assists and four steals to propel Miami (Ohio) to a 79-64 victory over Akron on Tuesday night.
Brown connected on 6 of 11 shots to help the RedHawks (12-10, 5-4 Mid-American Conference) shoot 48 percent from the floor. Ringo picked up his third points/assists double-double of the season and topped 10 assists in a game for the fifth time.
Ivey helps Akron hold off Ohio 71-68
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Jimond Ivey scored 11 of his 17 points in the final six minutes and Akron held off Ohio 71-68 on Tuesday night.
Ivey added six rebounds and four assists on an emotional night for the Zips, who ditched the traditional white home jerseys and wore purple in honor of pancreatic cancer awareness. The players all sported Peters on the backs of their jerseys in honor of Dan Peters, the Zips' director of basketball operations who succumbed to the disease in 2014.

Malcolm Duvivier and Virshon Cotton scored 17 points apiece to lead Akron (9-9, 2-4 Mid-American Conference), which has won two of its last three games. Daniel Utomi chipped in 16 points.

Cotton drills last-second 3, Akron beats Bowling Green 80-78
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Freshman Virshon Cotton drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left to give Akron an 80-78 win over Bowling Green on Saturday to snap a three-game skid.
Lucas Smith snatched the offensive rebound after Jimond Ivey, who totaled 19 points, missed a trey with :25 remaining. Cotton took the next shot for the win.
Sanford scores 22 points, key basket in Toledo’s 67-65 win
TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) — Jaelan Sanford scored 22 points, including a basket with 13 seconds left, and Toledo defeated Akron 67-65 on Friday night.
Sanford's leaning, one-handed jumper from the center of the paint gave Toledo a 66-62 lead. After a timeout, Akron turned the ball over on the inbounds. Marreon Jackson made a free throw for Toledo before Jimond Ivey made a 3-pointer at the buzzer.
Duvivier, Ivey lead Akron past D-II Concord, 86-49
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Malcolm Duvivier hit a career-high seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points and six assists, Jimond Ivey also scored 24 points and Akron beat Division II Concord University 86-49 on Friday night.
Duvivier, a graduate transfer from Oregon State, and Ivey combined for 14-of-23 shooting. Daniel Utomi added 18 points and 10 rebounds for Akron (7-5).
Davidson beats Akron 91-78 for 7th at Diamond Head Classic
HONOLULU (AP) — Freshman Kellan Grady made five 3-pointers and scored a season-best 30 points to help Davidson beat Akron 91-78 on Monday for seventh at the Diamond Head Classic.
Grady only had six points in the first half as Davidson led 39-34, but the Wildcats opened the second half by making 9 of 12 shots, including four 3-pointers by Grady, for a 64-47 lead. Davidson's lead didn't drop below eight points the rest of the way.
Akron remains undefeated at home, beats MVSU 81-63
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi had 23 points while pulling down seven rebounds to help keep Akron undefeated at home as the Zips dominated the first half and cruised to an 81-63 win over Mississippi Valley State on Saturday afternoon.
Akron (6-2, 6-0 at home) charged out to a 27-9 advantage at the midpoint of the first half and took a 42-25 lead into the break. The onslaught continued at the start of the second half as the Zips stretched their lead to 57-34 by the 11:41 mark.
Duvivier, Utomi lead Akron over Appalachian State 94-89
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Malcolm Duvivier hit 6 of 9 from 3-point range and scored 24 and Daniel Utomi added a double-double to propel Akron to a 94-89 victory over Appalachian State on Saturday night in a game that tipped off three hours late because of weather conditions.
Utomi finished with 18 points and 10 rebounds and the sophomore buried two late 3-pointers to help the Zips (5-2) hold off the Mountaineers (5-6) in the first meeting between the schools.
Akron holds on for 83-79 win over Fort Wayne
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Emmanuel Olojakpoke scored a career-high 24 points and grabbed seven rebounds as Akron held on for 83-79 win over Fort Wayne on Wednesday night.
Olojakpoke was 10 of 13 from the field for the Zips (4-2). Jimond Ivey added 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists, Daniel Utomi and Eric Parrish had 11 points apiece and Virshon Cotton chipped in 10.
Marshall ends seven-game skid against Akron, 86-64
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (AP) — Ajdin Penava had 20 points and 13 rebounds and blocked three shots to help Marshall end a seven-game skid against Akron with an 86-64 victory on Saturday night.
Jon Elmore, who came into the game averaging 25.3 points, scored 22 with seven assists and C.J. Burks hit four 3-pointers on his way to 20 points for the Thundering Herd (5-3).
Utomi has 24 points, 13 boards, Akron gets by Chattanooga
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi had 24 points with 13 rebounds as Akron remained undefeated at home, beating Chattanooga 75-70 on Tuesday night.
Akron's only loss was at Dayton, 73-60, on Saturday. The Zips (3-1) next play at Marshall on Saturday.
Cunningham leads Dayton to 73-60 win over Akron
DAYTON, Ohio (AP) — Josh Cunningham scored 20 points and grabbed 16 rebounds as Dayton rallied in the second half to upend Akron 73-60 on Saturday night.
Jordan Davis added 14 points for the Flyers (3-2). Kostas Antetokounmpo and Darrell Davis had 12 points apiece. The team averaged 52 percent shooting from the field compared to 44 percent for Akron.
Akron downs UT Martin 76-59 on Utomi’s career night
AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Daniel Utomi scored 32 points with seven 3-pointers, both career highs, and Akron made 15 of 31 3-pointers in downing UT Martin 76-59 on Saturday night.
Malcolm Duvivier scored 17 points with a career-high five 3s and the Zips (2-0) never trailed.
Jimond Ivey hit a jumper for Akron's largest lead, 63-47, with 8:52 to play. Matthew Butler's layup narrowed UT Martin's deficit to 68-57, but Utomi hit another 3-pointer, then another with 1:38 to play.
