Lane, Owens lead Northwestern State in 84-64 win
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Ishmael Lane scored 11 of his 17 points in the first half, Larry Owens added 14 points with six rebounds, and Northwestern State beat Division III Louisiana College 84-64 on Tuesday night.
DeAndre Love scored 10 points for the Demons (4-8), who turned it over 23 times, but outrebounded the Wildcats 50-35, led by seven boards apiece from Lane and Dalin Williams.
Smith hits winner, Texas A&M-CC clips Northwestern St 67-65
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas (AP) — Myles Smith scored the game-winner on a jump shot from 12 feet with less than a second on the clock, but Texas A&M-Corpus Christi still had to survive a full-court pass and a twisting scoop shot by Northwestern State for the 67-65 win Wednesday night.
Sean Rhea scored a career-best 17 points with eight rebounds for Texas A&M-Corpus Christi (4-9, 1-2 Southland Conference) and the last-second winner put Smith at seven points for the game. Tre Gray added 10.
Dixon, West lead Northwestern St past Louisiana Coll 88-58
ALEXANDRIA, La. (AP) — Darian Dixon and Jalan West scored 14 points apiece and Northwestern State used a balanced attack to defeat D-III Louisiana College 88-58 on Saturday.
Larry Owens and Ishmael Lane added 13 points apiece for the Demons (3-5) with Lane grabbing 10 rebounds. West, who hit four 3-pointers, had nine assists.
Taylan Grogan had 15 points for the Wildcats, who used the game as an exhibition.
Cashaw, Adams, Lapray post career highs in Rice’s 87-65 win
NATCHITOCHES, La. (AP) — Connor Cashaw scored a career-high 27 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead Rice and its new coach, Scott Pera, to their first victory this season, 87-65 over Northwestern State on Friday night.
Cashaw, a junior, was 9-of-16 from the floor, including 4 of 8 on 3-pointers, while grabbing nine rebounds. Sophomore Ako Adams added career highs of 16 points and nine assists and A.J. Lapray, a graduate transfer from Pepperdine, scored a career-high 18 points off the bench.
